In the NCAs(non-conductive adhesive) for adhesion of Micro Electro Mechanical System(MEMS), there are some problems such as delamination and cracking, because of the differences of CTE(coefficients of thermal expansion) between NCAs and substrates. Addition of inorganic particle or flexibilizer have been performed to solve those problems. In this study, to improve the flexibility of epoxy adhesive, epoxy/siloxane composites were prepared by adding 1, 3, or 5 phr of amino modified siloxane(AMS). Glass transition temperatures(Tg), moduli and CTE of those composites were measured to confirm effects of siloxane on thermal/mechanical properties of siloxane/epoxy-composites. Tg of AMS/epoxy-composites decreased from $134^{\circ}C$ to $122^{\circ}C$ with increasing AMS contents and moduli decreased from 2,425 MPa to 2,143 MPa with increasing AMS contents. But CTE of AMS/epoxy-composites increased from $67ppm/^{\circ}C$ to $71ppm/^{\circ}C$ with increasing AMS contents. In short, the addition of siloxane is effective for enhancing the flexibility of epoxy but leads to the decrease of Tg.
Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded to zirconia surfaces using three different zirconia primers and one silane primer, and subjected to thermocycling. Methods: We designed 10 experimental groups following the surface treatment and thermocycling. The surface was treated with one of the following method: no-primer (NP), Porcelain Conditioner (PC), Z-PRIME Plus (ZP), Monobond Plus (MP) and Zirconia Liner Premium (ZL) (n=20). Then each group was subdivided to non-thermocycled and thermocycled groups (NPT, PC, ZPT, MPT, ZLT) (n=10). Orthodontic brackets were bonded to the specimens using $Transbond^{TM}$ XT Paste and light cured for 15 s at $1,100mW/cm^2$. The SBS was measured at a 1 mm/min crosshead speed. The failure mode was assessed by examination with a stereomicroscope and the amount of bonding resin remaining on the zirconia surface was scored using the modified adhesive remnant index (ARI). Results: The SBS of all experimental groups decreased after thermocycling. Before thermocycling, the SBS was ZL, $ZP{\geq}MP{\geq}PC>NP$ but after thermocycling, the SBS was $ZLT{\geq}MPT{\geq}ZPT>PCT=NPT$ (p > 0.05). For the ARI score, both of the groups lacking primer (NP and NPT) displayed adhesive failure modes, but the groups with zirconia primers (ZP, ZPT, MP, MPT, ZL, and ZLT) were associated with mixed failure modes. Conclusions: Surface treatment with a zirconia primer increases the SBS relative to no-primer or silane primer application between orthodontic brackets and zirconia prostheses.
The development of flame retardants aims to prevent the spread of fire and reduce the casualties caused by flammable and toxic gases generated during the combustion of building materials used in the interiors of multi-use facilities. Flame material application provides flame resistance to a silica sol in an organic-inorganic hybrid material by flame retardant adhesive or coating by producing a sol-gel method. The conventional flame retardant materials, non-flame retardant material is applied with Halogen freeway. In particular, the basic physical properties of conventional adhesive coating improves the heat resistance, enhances the durability fire and heat, and expands the halogen free flame retardant of building materials.
Ethyl methacrylate (EMA) monomer coupling onto the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film surface was attempted to enhance the interfacial adhesive force between PVDF-polyvinyl chloride (PVC) bilayer films via dielectric barrier corona discharge. The interfacial forces were quite enhanced when PVDF films were treated by corona discharge in an EMA 1% atmosphere. The contact angle of PVDF films decreased due to corona treatment. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis showed that the carbon and oxygen content of the PVDF film surface increased with corona discharge while the fluoride content decreased. The curve fitting of XPS $C_{1s}$ peaks revealed that the non-polar C-C bonded carbon and oxygen-bonded carbon increased gradually with corona treatment, while the fluorine-bonded carbon decreased.

Plasma generator based on non-self-sustained low-pressure arc discharge has been examined as a tool for deposition of highly-adhesive hydrogenated amorphous diamond-like carbon(DLC) films. Since the discharge is stable in wide range of gas pressures and currents, this plasma source makes possible to realize both plasma-immersion ion implantation(PIII) and plasma-immersion ion deposition(PIID) in a unified vacuum cycle. The plasma parameters were measured as functions of discharge current. Discharge and substrate bias voltage parameters have been determined for the PIII and PIID modes. For PIID it has been demonstrated that hard and well-adherent DLC coating are produced at 200-500 eV energies per deposited carbon atom. The growth rates of DLC films in this case are about 200-300 nm/h. It was also shown that short(∼60$\mu\textrm{s}$) high-voltage(> 1kV) substrate bias pulses are the most favorable for achieving high hardness and good adhesion of DLC, as well as for reducing of residual intrinsic stress are.

This study was to evaluate shear bond strength of fluoride-releasing sealant and nonfluoride releasing sealant to enamel surface of bovine tooth. 80 extracted bovine teeth were randomly assigned to four groups, and four kinds of sealants including Teethmate-A(Kuraray Co.), Teethmate-F(Kuraray Co.), Helioseal(Vivadent Co.), Helioseal-F(Vivadent Co.) were bonded to exposed enamel surfaces using silicon plate. Shear bond strength was determined in an instron universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1mm/min. Then, the fracture surfaces of test specimens were investigated with scanning electron microscope. The obtained results were as follows; 1. The shear bond strength decreased in the following order : Teethmate-A(18.31MPa), Teethmate-F(11.90MPa), Helioseal (11.74 MPa), Helioseal-F(10.64MPa). 2. The shear bond strength of Teethmate-A showed significantly higher than that of Teethmate-F(P<0.05), but Helioseal and Helioseal-F didn't showed statistically different(P<0.05). 3. According to the SEM, Teethmate-A group showed cohesive failure, and Teethmate-A group & Helioseal group showed mixed pattern of cohesive and adhesive failure and Helioseal-F group showed adhesive failure.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shearbond strength and resin-dentin interface of three different dentinal bonding systems in primary and permanent teeth. Thirty extracted human primary molars and premolars, which were non-carious and free of obvious defect, were selected for this study. All specimens were divided into six groups with two groups allocated for each of the three dentinal bonding system(All-bond 2, Scotchbond Multi-Purpose, Gluma bonding system). After completion of bonding composite to dentin using each tested dentin bonding system, bond strength measurement and histological observation were performed. The results are as follows: 1. All-bond 2 and Scotchbond Multi-Purpose, A good quality hybrid layer was identified, the morphology of which could be equated with the zone of H-E and Brown-Brenn staining. In Gluma bonding system, hybrid layer was very thin, and separated from the solid polymer. 2. All-bond 2 had the highest mean shearbond strength, followed by Scotchbond Multi-Purpose and Gluma bonding system in both primary and permanent teeth. There was no statistically significant difference between All-bond 2 and Scotchbond Multi-Purpose. Statistically significant difference could be found between Gluma bonding system and the other two groups(p<0.05). 3. The fracture patterns observed were mainly the mixture of adhesive failure and dentin dettachment pattern in All-bond 2 and Scotchbond Multi-Purpose while adhesive failure prevailed in Gluma bonding system.
PURPOSE. To assess the retention of glass fiber post cemented with self-adhesive resin cement into optimum and over-prepared root canals following obturation in the presence of either eugenol (EB) or calcium hydroxide (CB)-based sealers. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Roots of extracted premolars were endodontically-treated in 5 groups (n = 10). Roots of Group 1 (control) were left with no obturation and then optimally prepared to receive endodontic dowels. Other root canals were obturated with gutta-percha in the presence of either eugenol-based (Groups 2 and 4) or calcium hydroxide-based (Groups 3 and 5) sealer. Dowel spaces were prepared with optimal diameter in Groups 2 and 3, one size larger in Groups 4 and 5. Standardized fiber posts were luted to the prepared spaces using self-adhesive resin cement and its retention was then tested on an universal testing machine. Both one-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD comparisons (${\alpha}$=0.05) were used to identify the significance of inter-group retention differences. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of both optimally and over-prepared dowel spaces was also considered to figure the nature of their interior out. RESULTS. The post retention was significantly higher to the non-obturated, optimally-prepared dowel spaces of Group 1 compared to the obturated, optimally-prepared ones of Groups 2 and 3. For each dowel space diameter, root canals obturated using CB of Groups 3 and 5 showed significantly higher dowel retention compared to those obturated using EB of Groups 2 and 4. Post retention to the over-prepared dowel spaces of Groups 4 and 5 was significantly higher than that recorded for the optimally-prepared ones of Groups 1-3. SEM images revealed traces of endodontic sealer and gutta-percha on the walls of the optimally-prepared dowel spaces. CONCLUSION. Despite the adverse effect of endodontic sealers on the retention of fiber posts, the over-preparation of dowel spaces helps to improve the retention.

Objectives: This study compared the effect of hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO) and ammonia ($NH_3$) plasmas on the bond strength of resin cement to fiber posts with conventional treatments. Materials and Methods: Sixty-five fiber posts were divided into 5 groups: Control (no surface treatment); $H_2O_2$ (24% hydrogen peroxide for 1 min); Blasting (blasting with aluminum oxide for 30 sec); $NH_3$ ($NH_3$ plasma treatment for 3 min); HMDSO (HMDSO plasma treatment for 15 min). After the treatments, the Ambar adhesive (FGM Dental Products) was applied to the post surface (n = 10). The fiber post was inserted into a silicon matrix that was filled with the conventional resin cement Allcem Core (FGM). Afterwards, the post/cement specimens were cut into discs and subjected to a push-out bond strength (POBS) test. Additionally, 3 posts in each group were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy. The POBS data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey's honest significant difference post hoc test (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: The Blasting and $NH_3$ groups showed the highest POBS values. The HMDSO group showed intermediate POBS values, whereas the Control and $H_2O_2$ groups showed the lowest POBS values. Conclusion: Blasting and $NH_3$ plasma treatments were associated with stronger bonding of the conventional resin cement Allcem to fiber posts, in a procedure in which the Ambar adhesive was used.
Objectives: This study was evaluated the marginal microleakage of two different adhesive systems before and after aging with two different dye penetration techniques. Materials and Methods: Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal and lingual surfaces of 48 human molars. Clearfil SE Bond and Single Bond (self-etching and etchand-rinse systems, respectively) were applied, each to half of the prepared cavities, which were restored with composite resin. Half of the specimens in each group underwent 10,000 cycles of thermocycling. Microleakage was evaluated using two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) dye penetration techniques separately for each half of each specimen. Data were analyzed with SPSS 11.5 (SPSS Inc.), using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: The difference between the 2D and 3D microleakage evaluation techniques was significant at the occlusal margins of Single bond groups (p = 0.002). The differences between 2D and 3D microleakage evaluation techniques were significant at both the occlusal and cervical margins of Clearfil SE Bond groups (p = 0.017 and p = 0.002, respectively). The difference between the 2D and 3D techniques was significant at the occlusal margins of non-aged groups (p = 0.003). The difference between these two techniques was significant at the occlusal margins of the aged groups (p = 0.001). The Mann-Whitney test showed significant differences between the two techniques only at the occlusal margins in all specimens. Conclusions: Under the limitations of the present study, it can be concluded that the 3D technique has the capacity to detect occlusal microleakage more precisely than the 2D technique.
