  • It was recognized by some researchers that the disturbance variance in a censored regression model is frequently underestimated by the maximum likelihood method. This underestimation has implications for the estimation of marginal effects and asymptotic standard errors. For instance, the actual coverage probability of the confidence interval based on a maximum likelihood estimate can be significantly smaller than the nominal confidence level; consequently, a Bayesian estimation is considered to overcome this difficulty. The behaviors of the maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimators of disturbance variance are examined in a fixed effects panel regression model with a limited dependent variable, which is known to have the incidental parameter problem. Behavior under random effect assumption is also investigated.

  • The Field Robot means the machinery applied for outdoor tasks in construction, agriculture and undersea etc. In this paper, to field-robotize a hydraulic excavator, we have proposed a robust and systematic controller design method. Disturbance observer is used as inner controller to reshape the excavating system into the linear dynamics of nominal model by compensating coupled nonlinear terms, model uncertainties and external load variations. Using the linear model that is obtained through off-line system identification, a H control scheme is applied to construct a disturbance observer and a servo-controller systematically.

  • A coupled damage-viscoplasticity model is presented for the analysis of localisation and size effects. On one hand, viscosity helps to avoid mesh sensitivity because of the introduction of a length scale in the model and, on the other hand, enables to represent size effects. Size effects were analysed by means of three-point bending tests. Correlation between the fracture energy parameter measured experimentally and the density fracture energy modelling parameter is discussed. It has been shown that the dependence of nominal strength and fracture energy on size is determined by the ligament length in comparison with the width of the fracture process zone.

  • In this paper, a new model error following sliding mode control is considered with a novel sliding surface for the error. This novel sliding surface has nominal dynamics of an original state of the error system and makes it possible that the Sliding Mode Control(SMC) technique for the error of the model following is used with the various types of controllers. Its design is based on the augmented system whose dynamics have a higher order than that of the original error system. The reaching phase is removed by using an initial virtual state which makes the initial error state sliding function equal to zero.

  • In this paper an asymmetric hydraulic actuator which consists of single acting cylinder and servo valve is modeled for a quarter car active suspension system. This model regards the force as an internal state rather than a control input. The control input of the model is the sum of oil flows that pass through the valve's orifices. The resulting dynamic equation in the state space ap-pears a feedback connection of a nominal linear time in-variant term with a nonlinear bounded uncertain block. Since this model makes it possible to eliminate the force control phase, analysis and controller design are made straightforward and simple. Well known LQR method is then applied. Simulation and test rig experiment show the effectiveness of this approach in modeling and control.

  • This paper presents a robust and systematic bilateral controller design method for a teleoperation of an underwater manipulator. Disturbance observer is used as a local controller of the master and underwater slave manipulator to set up the teleoperation system as a nominal model by compensating coupled nonlinear terms model uncertainties and external disturbances in the water. Using the linearized master/slave model a $H_{\infty}$ optimal control scheme is applied to systematically construct a force reflecting bilateral controller.

  • QFT(Quantitative Feedback Theory) is a very practical design technique that emphasizes the use of feedback for achieving the desired system performance tolerances in despite of plant uncertainty and disturbance. The fundamental concept of QFT is a loop shaping procedure that a suitable controller can be found by shaping a nominal loop transfer function. The loop shaping synthesis involves the identification of a structure and the specialization of parameter optimization of a desired system. This paper presents an improved loop shaping approach of QFT with model validation using GA(Genetic Algorithm). The method presented in this paper removes the problems of iterative operation, transformation error, and model validation in the conventional methods without consideration of frequency domain.

  • In this paper we present our research dealing with the problem of tool deflection during the milling. We try to compensate the errors by considering a new tool trajectory. In order to determine the compensated tool trajectory, the problem is divided in three steps : cutting forces model, tool deflection model and trajectory compensation. Starting from experimental data, we determine a cutting forces model., which allows us to anticipate the tool deflection along one nominal path. In order to determine the compensated tool trajectory, we propose in this paper a method of path compensation, called “mirror method”. This method of tool path optimization allows to minimize errors due to tool deflection. Several examples are processed in simulations and validated experimentally.

  • A novel approach to modeling concrete behavior at the stage of its maturing is presented in this paper. This approach assumes that at any point in the structure, concrete is composed of a set of layers that are activated in time layer by layer, based on amount of released heat that is produced during process of the concrete's maturing. This allows one to assume that each newly created layer has nominal stiffness moduli and tensile/compressive strengths. Hence introduction of explicit stiffness moduli and tensile/compressive strength dependencies on time, or equivalent time state parameter, is not needed. Analysis of plain concrete (PC) and reinforced concrete (RC) structures, especially massive ones, subjected to any kind of straining in their early stage of existence, mostly due to external loads but especially by thermal loading and shrinkage, is the goal of the approach. In this article a simple elasto-plastic softening model with creep is used for each layer and a general layered model behavior is illustrated on one-dimensional (1D) examples.
