  • Environmental mismatch has been one of important issues discussed in matched field processing for underwater source detection problem. To overcome this mismatch many algorithms professing robustness have been suggested. Feature extraction method (FEM) [Seong and Byun, IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 27(3), 642-652 (2002)] is one of robust matched field processing algorithms, which is based on the eigenvector estimation. Excluding eigenvectors of replica covariance matrix corresponding to large eigenvalues and forming an incoherent subspace of the replica field, the processor is formulated similarly to MUSIC algorithm. In this paper, by using the ocean experimental data, processing results of FEM and MVDR with white noise constraint (WNC) are presented for two levels of multi-tone source. Analysis of eigen-space of CSDM and FEM performance are also presented.

  • Standard Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) is a well-known method for image segmentation. However, one of its problems is that we consider the pixel as independent to each other, which can cause the segmentation results sensitive to noise. It explains why some of existing algorithms still cannot segment texts from the background clearly. Therefore, we present a new method in which we incorporate the spatial relationship between a pixel and its neighbors inside $3{\times}3$ windows to segment the text. Our approach works well with images containing texts, which has different sizes, shapes or colors in case of light changes or complex background. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness, accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed model in image segmentation compared to other methods.

  • We propose a bicycle detection system riding on people based on modified projected local binary pattern(PLBP) for vision based intelligent vehicles. Projection method has robustness for rotation invariant and reducing dimensionality for original image. The features of Local binary pattern(LBP) are fast to compute and simple to implement for object recognition and texture classification area. Moreover, We use uniform pattern to remove the noise. This paper suggests that modified LBP method and projection vector having different weighting values according to the local shape and area in the image. Also our system maintains the simplicity of evaluation of traditional formulation while being more discriminative. Our experimental results show that a bicycle and motorcycle riding on people detection system based on proposed PLBP features achieve higher detection accuracy rate than traditional features.

  • This paper describes a new image watermarking scheme invariant to rotation, scaling and translation (RST) attacks. For obtaining the invariance properties we propose to present an image of watermark by wedges and rings to convert its rotation to shift and then utilize the shift invariance property of the Direct Fourier Transform (DFT). But in contrast to conversional schemes based on the Fourier-Mellin transform (FMT), we do not use a log-polar mapping (LPM). As a result, our scheme preserves high quality of original image since it is not underwent to LPM For withstanding against JPEG compression, noise addition and low-pass (LP) filtering attacks a low frequency watermark is embedded into middle frequencies of the original image. Experiments with various attacks show the robustness of the proposed scheme.

  • Intercarrier interference (ICI) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, which causes substantial performance degradation in time-varying fading channels, is analyzed. An equivalent spreading code formulation is derived based on the analogy of OFDM and code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. Techniques as linear multiuser detection in CDMA systems are applied to suppress the ICI in OFDM systems. The performance of linear detection, measured using multiuser efficiency and asymptotic multiuser efficiency, is analyzed given the assumption of perfect channel state information (CSI), which serves as an upper bound for the performance of practical systems. For systems without CSI, time domain and frequency domain channel estimation based linear detectors are proposed. The performance gains and robustness of a linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) filter over a traditional filter (TF) and matched filter (MF) in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime are demonstrated with numerical simulation results.

  • In this paper, we propose the audio watermarking algorithm based on the critical band of HAS(human auditory system) without audibly affecting the quality of the watermarked audio and implement the detecting algorithm on the BSS(broadcast synchronizing system) for testing the proposed algorithm. According to the audio quality test, the SNR(signal to noise ratio) of the watermarked audio objectively is 66dB above. In the robustness test, the proposed algorithm can detect the watermark more than $90\%$ from various compression(MP3, AAC), A/D and D/A conversions, sampling rate conversions and especially asynchronizing attacks. The BSS automatically switches the programs between the key station and the local station in broadcasting system. The result of reliability test of implemented system by using the real broadcasting audio has no false positive error during 30 days. Because of detecting once processing per 0.5 second, we can judge that the false positive error does not occur.

  • In this paper, we study design of a ILQ(Inverse Linear Quadratic optimal control) looper control system for hot strip mills. The looper which is placed between stands plays an important role in controlling strip width by regulating strip tension variation generated from the velocity difference of main work rolls. A Looper servo controller is designed by ILQ control theory which is an inverse problem of LQ(Linear Quadratic optimal control) control. The mathematical model for looper system is obtained by Taylor´s linearization of nonlinear differential equations. Then we designed linear controller for linearization model by using the ILQ control algorithm. Thereafter this controller is applied to the nonlinear model for model identification. As a result, we show the controller´s robustness for the model error, external disturbance and sensor noise.

  • Nowadays, zerotrees based digital watermarking techniques are considered to be an efficient watermarking technique used for multimedia data in a compressed form. This paper presents a technique for watermarking an image, by employing zerotrees derived from the wavelet packet coefficients of the transformed image to carry the watermark signal. By setting a proper threshold in zerotrees determining process, the watermark signal can be recovered without the need of original image. With our proposed technique, more amount of watermark signal can be embedded within the image, compared to ordinary wavelet transform based techniques. The experimental results show the improved performance in both qualities of the resultant watermarked image and robustness of the embedded watermark signal against common signal processing such as brightness/contrast enhancement, high-pass filtering, Gaussian noise adding and JPEG compression scheme

  • In this paper, we propose the new algorithms of watermarking that utilize the characteristics of color images for solving the trade-off problem between the image quality and the robustness. Since the human visual characteristics of each RGB channel are different, we can gain more robust watermarking on the condition of the same image degradation.

  • A novel method for optical phase shaped binary transmission (PSBT) generation has been recently reported and experimentally evaluated. An amelioration of the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) sensitivity of the optical PSBT modulation format is proposed with the application of the concepts of enhanced electrical PSBT signal generation. Enhanced optical PSBT is proposed here as a modulation format producing a 0.7 dB gain in OSNR sensitivity compared to OPSBT, while maintaining a good robustness to group velocity dispersion: 100 ps/nm for enhanced optical PSBT and 120 ps/nm for optical PSBT, compared to 50 ps/nm for standard NRZ signals.
