  • In this paper, a simple edge pattern classification method is proposed for detecting straight line segments in an image corrupted by impulse noise. Corrupted images have complicated edge patterns. To detect straight line from an complicated edge pattern, it is needed to simplify the entire edge. The proposed algorithm separates the entire edge into 4 directional partial edge patterns. Each line segment is separated from the partial edge image where several line segments are overlapped, and then the straight line is detected. The results of the experiments emphasize that the proposed algorithm is simple but accurate.

  • In this paper, we propose two schemes to reduce the complexity of fixed-complexity sphere decoder (FSD) algorithm in the ordering and tree-search stages, respectively, while achieving quasi-ML performance. In the ordering stage, we propose a QR-decomposition-based FSD signal ordering based on the zero-forcing criterion (FSD-ZF-SQRD) that requires only a few number of additional complex flops compared to the unsorted QRD. Also, the proposed ordering algorithm is extended using the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion to achieve better performance. In the tree-search stage, we introduce a threshold-based complexity reduction approach for the FSD depending on the reliability of the signal with the largest noise amplification. Numerical results show that in $8{\times}8$ MIMO system, the proposed FSD-ZF-SQRD and FSD-MMSE-SQRD only require 19.5% and 26.3% of the computational efforts required by Hassibi’s scheme, respectively. Moreover, a third threshold vector is outlined which can be used for high order modulation schemes. In $4{\times}4$ MIMO system using 16-QAM and 64-QAM, simulation results show that when the proposed threshold-based approach is employed, FSD requires only 62.86% and 53.67% of its full complexity, respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust digital copyright-protection technique based on the concept of human auditory system. First, we propose a watermarking technique that accepts the various attacks such as, time scaling, pitch shift, add noise and a lot of lossy compression such as MP3, AAC WMA. Second, we implement audio PD(portable device) for copyright protection using proposed method. The proposed watermarking technique is developed using digital filtering technique. Being designed according to critical band of HAS(human auditory system), the digital filers embed watermark without nearly affecting audio quality. Before processing of digital filtering, wavelet transform decomposes the input audio signal into several signals that are composed of specific frequencies. Then, we embed watermark in the decomposed signal (0kHz~11kHz) by designed band-stop digital filer. Watermarking detection algorithm is implemented on audio PD(portable device). Proposed watermarking technology embeds 2bits information per 15 seconds. If PD detects watermark '11', which means illegal song. PD displays "Illegal Song" message on LCD, skips the song and plays the next song, The implemented detection algorithm in PD requires 19 MHz computational power, 7.9kBytes ROM and 10kBytes RAM. The suggested technique satisfies SDMI(secure digital music initiative) requirements of platform3 based on ARM9E core.

  • There is a critical need for AI assistance in guard operations of Army base perimeters, which is exacerbated by changes in the national defense and security environment such as force reduction. In addition, the possibility for human error inherent to perimeter guard operations attests to the need for an innovative revamp of current systems. The purpose of this study is to propose a real-time object detection AI tailored to military CCTV surveillance with three unique characteristics. First, training data suitable for situations in which relatively small objects must be recognized is used due to the characteristics of military CCTV. Second, we utilize a data augmentation algorithm suited for military context applied in the data preparation step. Third, a noise reduction algorithm is applied to account for military-specific situations, such as camouflaged targets and unfavorable weather conditions. The proposed system has been field-tested in a real-world setting, and its performance has been verified.

  • Lead-acid Battery is the oldest rechargeable battery system and has maintained its position in the rechargeable battery field. The battery causes thermal runaway for various reasons, which can lead to major accidents. Therefore, preventing thermal runaway is a key part of the battery management system. Recently, research is underway to categorize thermal runaway battery cells into machine learning. In this paper, we present a thermal runaway hazard cell detection and verification algorithm using DBSCAN and statistical method. An experiment was conducted to classify thermal runaway hazard cells using only the resistance values as measured by the Battery Management System (BMS). The results demonstrated the efficacy of the proposed algorithms in accurately classifying thermal runaway cells. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm was able to classify thermal runaway cells between thermal runaway hazard cells and cells containing noise. Additionally, the thermal runaway hazard cells were early detected through the optimization of DBSCAN parameters using a grid search approach.

  • A fuzzy rule-based hand-motion estimation algorithm is proposed for a 6 dimensional spatial tracker in which low cost accelerometers and gyros are employed. To be specific, beginning and stopping of hand motions needs to be accurately detected to initiate and terminate integration process to get position and pose of the hand from accelerometer and gyro signals, since errors due to noise and/or hand-shaking motions accumulated by integration processes. Fuzzy rules of yes or no of hand-motion-detection are here proposed for rules of accelerometer signals, and sum of derivatives of accelerometer and gyro signals. Several experimental results and shown to validate our proposed algorithms.

  • On CELP type Vocoders G.723.1 6.3kbps/5.3kbps Dual Rate Speech Codec, which is developed for Internet Phone and videoconferencing, uses VAD(Voice Activity Detection)/CNG (Comfort Noise Generator) in order to reduce the bit rate in a silence period. In order to reduce the bit rate effectively in this paper, we first set the boundary condition of the energy threshold to prevent the consumption of unnecessary processing time, and use three decision rules to detect an active frame by energy, pitch gain and LSP distance. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm we use silence-inserted speech data with 0, 5, 10, 20dB of SNR. As a result when SNR is over 5dB, the bit rate is reduced up to about 40% without speech degradation and the processing time is additionally decreased.

  • In this paper, a novel and effective damage diagnosis algorithm is proposed to detect and estimate damage using two stages least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) and limited number of attached sensors on structures. In the first stage, LS-SVM1 is used to predict the unmeasured mode shapes data based on limited measured modal data and in the second stage, LS-SVM2 is used to predicting the damage location and severity using the complete modal data from the first-stage LS-SVM1. The presented methods are applied to a three story irregular frame and cantilever plate. To investigate the noise effects and modeling errors, two uncertainty levels have been considered. Moreover, the performance of the proposed methods has been verified through using experimental modal data of a mass-stiffness system. The obtained damage identification results show the suitable performance of the proposed damage identification method for structures in spite of different uncertainty levels.

  • In this paper we have disigned and implemented a real time ALE (adaptive line enhancer) using a high speed digital processor,NEC 7720. For the ALE system, we have employed an adaptive LMS(least mean square) algorithm proposed by Widrow and Hoff and a 32-order FIR(finite impulse response) filter. Extensive computer simulations have been performed to investigate the peformance of the ALE and to determine necessary parameters for hardware design. The developed software for an NEC 7720 was tested in real time operation using an NEC7720 hardware emulator. The ALE has been tested by sinusoidal waves and real CW (continuous wave) signals. It was found that the experimental results were well agreed with the computer simulation results. Thus it can be concluded that the ALE is useful for detection and enhancement of a sinusoidal signal which is corrupted by an additive Gaussian noise.

  • This paper presents a algorithm, what is able to recognize 4 different continuous human motion using a single stationary camera as input. For the first step, we acquire images from a camera. To enhance the image, we perform preprocessing which deals with removing noise using median filter, thresholding. And then morphological operations are performed to remove which small blobs and eliminates small holes. At the forth step, blobs are analysed to extracts for foreground region. Then, motions are predicted from these images by using optical flow technique, and the predicted motion data are refined by comparing our cardboard models so as to judge behavior pattern.
