Nonuniform Gain Correction Based on the Filtered Gain Map in Radiography Image Detectors (방사선 영상 디텍터에서 필터링된 이득지도를 사용한 불균일 이득 잡음의 보정)

  • Radiography image detector produces digital images by collecting the charges from the incident x-ray photons and converting it to the voltage signals and then the digital signals. The fixed-pattern noise from the nonuinform amplifier gains in the employed multiple readout circuits. In order to correct the nonuniform gains, a gain-correction technique which is based on the gain map is conventionally used. Since the photon noise remains in the designed gain map, the noise contaminates the gain-corrected images. In this paper, experimental observations are conducted for filtering the remained noise in the gain map, and a filter optimization algorithm is proposed to efficiently remove the noise. For acquired x-ray images from detectors, the filtered gain maps are evaluated and it is shown that optimization algorithm can improve the filtering performance even for relatively strong fixed-pattern noises, which cannot be removed by a simple filter.

Study on the Reduction of Wet-Brake Noise (습식 브레이크의 소음 저감에 대한 연구)

  • The wet brakes used on a forklift often produce noise upon engagement. The elimination or reduction of this squeal noise is an important task for the improvement of the comfort of those operating these machines. In this paper, a test rig was developed for the testing of brake noise, and the squeal noise was measured with this apparatus. Automatic transmission fluid and grooves in the material of the friction-plate pad were found to be the main factors causing squeal noise. In order to identify the characteristics of this type of noise, signal analyses of the noise were conducted using different frequency spectra. The experimental results showed that the viscosity of the automatic transmission fluid and the groove pattern on the friction-plate pad largely affected the reduction of the wet brake squeal noise made by an industrial forklift.

The Effect of White Noise and Pink Noise on the Brain Activity (화이트 노이즈와 핑크 노이즈가 뇌 활성도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is to determine the significant effect of white and pink noise on brain. The brain synchronization has been analyzed under the condition of non-noise, white nose and pink noise(male 10, female 10, mean age $23.3{\pm}2.14$). As a result of analysis, pink noise stimulus, alpha, low beta band, and high beta band were significantly decreased than non-noise and white noise. In addition, these brain response pattern significantly increased at frontal lobe and temporal lobe, and dominated on the right hemisphere. This result is considered to be useful of sound design in driving quality of human life on the basis of neuroscience.

  • In this paper, a pattern spectrum component function is introduced for an oriented shape analysis and its properties are discussed. It can represent directional information of shape more precisely than the conventional oriented pattern spectrum. An adaptive distance function between two pattern spectrum component functions is presented to recognize different shapes in noise. As a practical application, the pattern spectrum component function is applied to warning traffic sign recognitions utilizing the adaptive distance functions. Favorable results are obtained compared to the oriented pattern spectrum.

A Study on Audience Counting Method in Auditorium Based on Pattern Comparison (패턴비교를 이용한 공연장에서의 관객 수 카운팅 방법에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose an audience counting method in an auditorium based on pattern comparison. The previous counting methods based on object detection can't exactly count the audience in real time because auditorium has coarse illumination condition and so many audiences. Therefore, in this paper, we count the audience in an auditorium with fixed seats by the method which the pattern from each reference seat is compared to the pattern from each input seat. Especially, to overcome limitations based on either illumination or noise, two pattern comparison methods are efficiently employed and combined. One is based on the amplitude projection, and the other is based on Walsh-Hadamard Kernel. Walsh-Hadamard Kernel has the characteristic which complements amplitude projection. Therefore, we ran achieve the accurate counting in the presence of coarse illumination and noise. The experimental results show that our method performs well on sequences of images acquired in an auditorium. We also verify a realistic possibility for other applications applying our method to the parking positioning system.

  • Accurate encoding of local patterns is a very important factor in texture classification. However, LBP based methods w idely studied have fundamental problems that are vulnerable to noise. Recently, LDP method using edge response and dire ction information was proposed in facial expression recognition. LDP is more robust to noise than LBP and can accommod ate more information in it's pattern code, but it has drawbacks that it is sensitive to rotation transforms that are critical to texture classification. In this paper, we propose a new local pattern coding method called Rotation Invariant Local Direc tional Pattern, which combines rotation-invariant transform to LDP. To prove the texture classification performance of the proposed method in this paper, texture classification was performed on the widely used UIUC and CUReT datasets. As a result, the proposed RILDP method showed better performance than the existing methods.

Steering Beam Pattern Synthesis of Line Array SONAR using Modified Two Step Least Squares Method (개선된 2단 최소자승법을 이용한 선배열 소나의 조향 빔 형성)

  • Towed array SONAR is deformed because it operates in fluid such as an ocean. It especially undergoes significant change in shape as a towing vessel takes a turn. In this case, beam pattern synthesis of the line array is limited, resulting in degradation in quality such as signal-to-noise ratio. This paper presents a modified two-step least squares algorithm based on the two-step least squares method. The shape of the sea-operated line array formation with the towing vessel changing course(angle) was modeled and the algorithm was subsequently applied. While changing course and location of the main lobe in beam pattern was altered, signal-to-noise ratio of steering beam pattern synthesis was analyzed by algorithm (proposed and others). As a result, the proposed algorithm presented improvement in performance by 2dB compared to other algorithms while forming relatively constant beam pattern.

Recognition of Printed Hangul Text Using Circular Pattern Vectors (원형 패턴 벡터를 이용한 인쇄체 한글 인식)

  • This thesis deals with a novel font-dependent Hangul recognition algorithm invariant to position translation, scaling, and rotation using circular pattern vectors. The proposed algorithm removes noise from input letters using binary morphology and generates the circular pattern vectors. The generated circular pattern vectors represent spatial distributions on several concentric circles from the center of gravity in a given letter. Then the algorithm selects the letter minimizing the distance between the reference vectors and the generated circular pattern vectors. In order to estimate performances of the proposed algorithm, the completed Batang Hangul 2,350 letters were used as test images with scaling and rotational transformations. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm are better than conventional algorithm using the ring projection in the recognition rates of Hangul letters with scaling and rotational transformation.

  • Current encryption methods have been applied to secure communication using discrete chaotic system whose output is a noise-like signal which differs from the conventional encryption methods that employ algebra and number theory[1-2] We propose an optical encryption method that transforms the primary pattern into the image pattern of discrete chaotic function first a primary pattern is encoded using permutation algorithm, In the proposed system we suggest the permutation algorithm using the output of key steam generator and its security level is analyzed. In this paper we worked out problem of the application about few discrete chaos function through a permutation algorithm and enhanced the security level. Experimental results with image signal demonstrate the proper of the implemented optical encryption system.

User-Adaptive Movement Noise Detection Algorithm Using Wavelet Transform (Wavelet을 이용한 사용자 적응 동잡음 판단 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm to detect movement noise in PPG(Photoplethysmography) measurements. Movement noise significantly deteriorate PPG signals in measurement, so that a movement noise detection algorithm is critical before using measured PPG signals for applications such as diagnosis. To detect movement noise, we apply wavelet transform to PPG signals instead of short-time Fourier transform and decide if the measured signlas include movement noise. To that end, we adaptively choose a wavelet, which is the most similar to the subject's PPG pattern. In the case when movement noise is intentionally added in the 20% and 30% of the total experiment time, our algorithm detects time-slots including movement and outperforms previous works.
