The aim of the present paper is to develop a computer program predicting ultimate fracture strength of initially cracked structure under monotonically increasing external loads. For this purpose, two kinds of 3-D isoparametric solid elements, one 6-node wedge element and another 8-node brick element are formulated along the small deformation theory. Plasticity in the element is checked using von Mises' yield criterion. Elasto-plastic stiffness matrix of the element is calculated taking account of strain hardening effect. If the principal strain at crack tip which is one nodal point exceeds the critical strain dependin on the material property, crack tip is supposed to be opened and the crack tip node which was previously constrained in the direction perpendicular to the crack line is released. After that, the crack lay be propagated to the adjacent node. Once a crack tip node is fractured, the energy of the newly fractured node should be released which is to be absorbed by the remaining part. The accumulated reaction force which was carried by the newly fractured node so far is then applied in the opposite direction. During the action of crack tip relief force, since unloading may be occured in the plastic element, unloading check should be made. If a plastic element unloads, elastic stress-strain equation is used in the calculation of the stiffness matrix of the element, while for a loading element, elasto-plastic stress-strain equation is continuously used. Verification of the computer program is made comparing with the experimental results for center cracked panel subjected to uniform tensile load. Also some factors affecting ultimate fracture strength of initially cracked plate are investigated. It is concluded that the computer program developed here gives an accurate solution and becomes useful tool for predicting ultimate fracture load of initially cracked structural system under monotonically increasing external loads.
As one way of evaluating polymorphism in maize, variation of peroxidase 8 (Px.8) in maize plants was investigated by means of horizontal acrylomide electrophoresis. The specific part of maize plants was stele and other parts of plants were also studied for 34 different maize lines and hybrids. The results obtained indicate that Px.8 has three distinct migrating patterns on gel such as fast, slow and fast-slow. The band pattern varied with materials used. Most hybrids were showing fast-slow band, indicating that those hybrids are heterozygous at least for Px.8 allele. Variation of band pattern was obseerved within a single inbred line. The Px.8 in stele tissue and in young leaf and nodal tissue was found to be identical, indicating the possible use of those tissues as an alternative tissue for Px.8 study. It was also found that there might be some definite relationship between Px.8 and Px.3 activities in the same tissue.

In this paper, the power conditioner composed of the stand-alone single-phase squirrel cage rotor type self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by prime movers such as a wind turbine and a micro gas turbine (MGT) is presented by using the steady-state circuit analysis based on the two nodal admittance approaches using the per-unit frequency in addition to a new state variable defined by the per-unit slip frequency along with its performance evaluations for the stand-alone energy utilizations. The stande-alone single-phase SEIG operating performances in unregulated voltage control loop are then evaluated on line under the conditions of the speed change transients of the prime mover and the stand-alone electrical passive load power variations with the simple theoretical analysis and the efficient computation processing procedures described in the part I of this paper. In addition, a feasuible PI controlled feedback closed-loop voltage regulation scheme of the stande-alone single-phase SEIG is designed on the basis of the static VAR compensate. (SVC) and discussed in experiment for the promising stand-alone power conditioner. The experimental operating performance results are illustrated and give good agreements with the simulation ones. The simulation and experimental results of the stand-alone single-phase SEIG with the simple SVC controller for its stabilized voltage regulation prove the practical effectiveness of the additional SVC control loop scheme including the PI controller with fast response characteristics and steady-sate performance improvements.

The free vibration problem of symmetrically laminated composite rectangular plates is formulated based on anisotropic thick plate theory including the effects of shear deformation and rotary inertia. Considering the difficulty of obtaining closed-form solutions, Rayleigh-Ritz analysis using polynomials having the property of Timoshenko beam functions as trial functions is adopted. The boundary conditions elastically restrained against rotation are accomodated as well as classical boundary conditions. From the results of numerical studies, the validity of the present method is verified. And it is also found that the adoption of thick plate theory for the vibration analysis of laminated composite plates is essential because of the relatively large shear deformation effect, and that the convergence of the Rayleigh quotient to the stationary value is less rapid in anisotropic composite plates than that in the orthotropic ones due to more complicated mode shapes of the former.
The sensors attached on/in a person are moved since human body frequency changes their activity, therefore in wireless body area networks, nodal mobility and non-line-of-sight condition will impact on performance of networks such as energy efficiency and reliable communication. We then proposed schemes which study on forwarding decisions against frequent change of topology and channel conditions to increase reliable connections and improve energy efficiency. In this work, we control the size of packets, forwarding rate based on ratio of input links and output links at each node. We also robust the network topology by extending the peer to peer IEEE 802.15.4-based. The adaptive topology from chain-based to grid-based can optimal our schemes. The simulation shows that these approaches are not only extending network lifetime to 48.2 percent but also increase around 6.08 percent the packet delivery ratio. The "hot spots" problem is also resolved with this approach.
The experiment of rip current at successive ends of breaking wave crests was conducted in a laboratory wave basin, and its time-varying evolution according to incident wave durations was observed by using ortho-rectified images. The experiment utilized the generation of a quasi nodal line of the honeycomb-pattern waves (i.e., intersecting wave trains) formed by out-of-phase motion of two piston-type wave makers arranged in the transverse direction, instead of the original honeycomb pattern waves which are generated when two wave trains propagate with slightly different wave directions. The particle moving distance and velocity caused by the rip current were measured by using the particle tracking technique. As a result, the rip current was survived for a while even without incident waves after its generation due to several successive ends of wave crests, and it moved the particles further out to sea.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of muscle activity and muscle strength according to verbal command volume during isokinetic and isometric quadricep exercises. Methods: To measure muscle activity and muscle strength, surface electrodes were attached to the participants, as they sat on a Biodex chair. The isometric exercise was performed three times, with maximum exercise at $30^{\circ}$ bending angle, based on a maximum extension state of the knee at $0^{\circ}$. The average holding time was unified to three seconds. In addition, the isokinetic exercise was performed three times, at $60^{\circ}/sec$. The verbal command ranged between 0∾60 dB and 0∾75 dB. Muscle activity was measured using surface electromyography (4D-MT, Relive, Gimhae, Korea). The Biodex System 4 was used to measure the isometric and isokinetic strength of the nodal line, and 4D-MT was used to measure muscle activity. Results: There were significant improvements in the maximal and relative muscle strengths, when the 0∾ 60 dB and 0∾75 dB verbal commands were applied with isokinetic extension/flexion (p<.05). The isokinetic exercise (0∾75 dB) group showed a significant difference in the vastus medialis oblique muscle activity change (p<.05), while the isometric exercise (0∾75 dB) group showed a significant difference in the rectus femoris muscle activity change (p<.05). Conclusions: Our results reveal that verbal commands effectively improve muscle activity and muscle strength during isokinetic and isometric quadricep exercises.

The experiment of unsteady rip current generated at the successive ends of breaking wave crests of honeycomb pattern waves was conducted in a laboratory wave basin, and its time-varying evolution was observed by using ortho-rectified images. The present experiment utilized the generation of a quasi nodal line of the honeycomb-pattern waves formed by out-of-phase motion of two piston-type wavemakers arranged in the transverse direction, instead of the original honeycomb pattern waves which are generated when two wave trains propagate with slightly different wave directions. The velocities of rip current were measured by using the LSPIV (Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry) technique. As a result, the unsteady rip current was generated between successive ends of wave crests, and evolved with its shear fluctuations in this experiment. Also, the time series of LSPIV velocity of the unsteady rip current showd its short component due to waves and its long component due to wave-induced currents.

This study was conducted to investigate the growth characteristics of the shoot and roots and to analyse the morphological characteristics of roots of waterlogging resistant and susceptible maize inbred lines. Six maize inbred lines were treated with waterlogging for 10 days at V3, and the degree of leaf senescence was evaluated for waterlogging resistance. As a result of waterlogging resistance evaluation, KS85 was the most damaged inbred line with 3.33 senescence leaves and 5.54 degree, and KS141 was the least damaged inbred line with 1.33 senescence leaves and 3 degree. At 20 days after treatment, the effect of waterlogging stress on the shoot dry matter accumulation of KS85 and KS141 were decreased by 86.1% and 77.0%, respectively, compared to the control. Similarly, root dry matter accumulation of KS85 and KS141 were decreased by 77.6% and 65.0%. As a result of SEM photographs of the nodal roots of the two maize inbred lines, the thickness of cortex of KS141 was thicker than that of KS85, and the distortion of the cortex was observed in KS85 at 20 days after waterlogging. It was concluded that the thickness of cortex was related to maize waterlogging resistance.
Restorative procedures can lead to weakening tooth due to reduction and alteraton of tooth structure. It is essential to prevent fractures to conserve tooth. Among the several parameters in cavity designs, cavity isthmus and depth are very important. In this study, MO amalgam cavity was prepared on maxillary first premolar. Three dimensional. finite element models were made by serial photographic method and cavity depth(1.7mm, 2.4mm) and isthmus (11 4, 1/3, 1/2 of intercuspal distance) were varied. linear, eight and six-nodal, isoparametric brick elements were used for the three dimensional finite element model. The periodontal ligament and alveolar bone surrounding the tooth were excluded in these models. Three types model(B, G and R model) were developed. B model was assumed perfect bonding between the restoration and cavity wall. Both compressive and tensile forces were distributed directly to the adjacent regions. G model(Gap Distance: 0.000001mm) was assumed the possibility of play at the interface simulated the lack of real bonding between the amalgam and cavity wall (enamel and dentin). When compression occurred along the interface, the forces were transferred to the adjacent regions. However, tensile forces perpendicular to the interface were excluded. R model was assumed non-connection between the restoration and cavity wall. No force was transferred to the adjacent regions. A load of 500N was applied vertically at the first node from the lingual slope of the buccal cusp tip. This study analysed the displacement, von Mises stress, 1 and 2 direction normal stress and strain with FEM software ABAQUS Version 5.2 and hardware IRIS 4D/310 VGX Work-station. The results were as follows: 1. G model showed stress and strain patterns between Band R model. 2. B model and G model showed the bending phenomenon in the displacement. 3. R model showed the greatest amount of the displacement of the buccal cusp followed by G and B model in descending order. G model showed the greatest amount of the displacement of the lingual cusp followed by B and R model in descending order. 4. B model showed no change of the displacement as increasing depth and width of the cavity. G and R model showed greater displacement of the buccal cusp as increasing depth and width of the cavity, but no change in the displacement of the lingual cusp. 5. As increasing of the width of the cavity, stress and strain were not changed in B model. Stress and strain were increased on the distal marginal ridge and buccopulpal line angle in G and R model. The possibility of the tooth fracture was increased. 6. As increasing of the depth of the cavity, stress and strain were not changed in B and G model. Stress and strain were increased on the distal marginal ridge and buccopulpal line angle in R model. The possibility of the tooth fracture was increased.
