  • ‘Korean Highway Bridge Design Code’ provides the spectrum analysis method with response modification factors for the seismic design of typical bridges. However, considering that korean peninsula is classified as moderate seismic regions and domestic circumstances for bridge design and construction are different from other countries, the applicability of this code is not yet proved. Therefore it is required to verify that applying the spectrum analysis method fulfills the no collapse requirement which is set forth as the basic seismic design concept. In this study two typical bridges with T and ${\prod}$ type piers are selected as analysis bridges and seismic designs are carried out by applying the spectrum analysis method with design conditions given for moderate seismic regions. Based on the results obtained through deign procedures, the role of the response modification factors and fulfillment of the no collapse requirement are discussed, from which supplementary provisions for the design code are identified.

  • This paper describes a computational approach to the quantification of primary damage under irradiation and demonstrates the effect of neutron energy spectra on the formation of the displacement cascade. The development of displacement cascades in ${\alpha}-Iron$ has been simulated using the MOLDY code - a molecular dynamics code for simulating radiation damage. The primary knock-on atom energy, key input to the MOLDY code, was determined from the SPECTER code calculation on two neutron spectra. The two neutron spectra include; (i) neutron spectrum in the instrumented irradiation capsule of the high-flux advanced neutron application reactor (HANARO), and (ii) neutron spectrum at the inner surface of the reactor pressure vessel steel for the Younggwang nuclear power plant No.5 (YG 5). Minor differences in the normalized neutron spectra between the two spectra produce similar values of PKA energy, which are 4.7 keV for HANARO and 5.3 keV for YG 5. This similarity implies that primary damage to the components of the commercial nuclear reactors should be well simulated by irradiation in the HANARO. Moreover, the application of the MD calculations corroborates this statement by comparing cascades simulation results.

  • The numerical analysis is carried out to identify the influence of design factors to shear capacity of cast-in-place (CIP) anchor in ACI 349 Code that is available for the design of fastening system at Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in this study. The MASA program is used to develop the numerical analysis model and the developed numerical analysis model is verified on a basis of the various test data of CIP anchor. Both $l/d_o$ and $c_1/l$ we considered as design factors. As a result, the variation of $l/d_o$ has no influence on the shear capacity of CIP anchor but $c_1/l$ has a large influence on the shear capacity of CIP anchor, Therefore, it is proved that ACI 349 Code may give a non-conservative results compared with real shear capacity of CIP anchor according to $c_1/l$.

  • In this paper, pseudo noise (PN) code acquisition performance with multiple antennas in a UWB time hopping/code division multiple access system is analyzed. The closed form for the conditional probability is derived, using the Gauss-Hermite quadrature formula, when the signal with Gaussian distribution goes through the lognormal fading channel. The performance comparison of the above mentioned schemes shows that the code acquisition performance with a diversity combining technique, especially when increasing the number of antennas, is more robust than that using no diversity.

  • When locked rotor event. occurs, instantaneously affected loop and core flow were quickly reduced, which resulted in an increase in coolant temperature and system pressure. Analysis method of this event was that constant core inlet temperature and system pressure as well as change in core flow calculated from COAST code were statically used as an input variable to HERMITE code, because of no tools to simulate NSSS behavior and 1-D core neutronics transient coincidently. With employing TASS code revised with 1-D neutronics model, this event was analyzed in point of DNBR. By doing so, analysis procedure could be simplified and unreasonable conservatism might be removed in DNBR calculation by consideration of pressure increase.

  • Carrier interferometry code is considered as a promising scheme that provides significant performance improvement via frequency diversity effect. Space-time coding is commonly employed to achieve a performance gain through space diversity. The combination of these techniques and forward error correction coding will lead to enhanced system capacity and performance. This paper presents a low-density parity check (LDPC) coded space-time orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission scheme with carrier interferometry code for high-capacity and high-performance mobile multimedia communications. Computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed mobile multimedia transmission system offers a considerable performance improvement of approximately 9dB in terms of Eb/No in the Rayleigh fading channel with relatively low delay spread, in comparison with space-time OFDM. Performance gains are further increased, comparing with traditional OFDM systems.

  • Nowadays in Republic of Korea, there is no distinct reference for the related design technology of rotor blade of wind turbine. Therefore the optimum design and evaluation of performance is carried out with foreign commercial code softwares. This paper shows in-house code software that evaluates the aerodynamic design of wind turbine rotor blade using blade element-momentum theory (BEMT) and processes that is applied through various aerodynamics theories such as momentum theory, blade element theory, prandtl's tip loss theory and strip theory. This paper presents the results of the numerical analysis such as distribution of aerodynamic properties and performance curves using in-house code POSEIDON.

  • Alamouti space-time code (STC) is a part of the UMTS-WCDMA standard. However, up to the best of our knowledge no exact closed-form outage and bit error probability (BEP) formulas for this famous code exists. Evaluating its performance through simulations is time-consuming and therefore, there should be analytical performance graphs to serve as a reference which are derived in this paper for coherently MPSK-modulated data. Additionally, analytical results take into account different channel fading levels from transmit antennas to receive ones.

  • Multi-dimensional coupling analysis is a research hot spot in nuclear reactor thermal hydraulic study and both the full-scale system transient response and local key three-dimensional thermal hydraulic phenomenon could be obtained simultaneously, which can achieve the balance between efficiency and accuracy in the numerical simulation of nuclear reactor. A one-dimensional to three-dimensional (1D-3D) coupling platform for the nuclear reactor multi-dimensional analysis is developed by XJTU-NuTheL (Nuclear Thermal-hydraulic Laboratory at Xi'an Jiaotong University) based on the CFD code Fluent and system code RELAP5 through the Dynamic Link Library (DLL) technology and Fluent user-defined functions (UDF). In this paper, the International Standard Problem (ISP) No. 43 is selected as the benchmark and the rapid boron dilution transient in the nuclear reactor is studied with the coupling code. The code validation is conducted first and the numerical simulation results show good agreement with the experimental data. The three-dimensional flow and temperature fields in the downcomer are analyzed in detail during the transient scenarios. The strong reverse flow is observed beneath the inlet cold leg, causing the de-borated water slug to mainly diffuse in the circumferential direction. The deviations between the experimental data and the transients predicted by the coupling code are also discussed.

  • In this paper, the performance analysis of telemetering method using delayed frame time diversity (DFTD) as the outer code and Reed-Solomon (RS) code as the inner code is described. DFTD is used to transmit a real-time frame together with a time-delayed frame which was saved in the memory during a defined period. The RS code as a kind of FEC (forward error correction) is serially concatenated with DFTD. This method was applied to the design of telemetry units that have been used for flight tests in a communication environment with deep fading. The data of the flight test for four cases with no applied code, with DFTD only, with the RS code only, and with both DFTD and the RS code are used to analyze the performance. The simulation for time-delay suggests the possibility that all frame errors can be removed. And the results of 12 flight tests show the performance superiority of this new method to compare with the RS code only.
