Newborn dog chymosin was extracted from the stomachs of dogs of 2 weeks of age, and was purified by ion exchange chromatography. Half of the sequence was determined by amino acid sequencing and the complete sequence was deduced from a cloned chymosin cDNA Results showed that the zymogen showed 79% sequence identity with calf prochymosin and 54% identity with porcine pepsinogen A The size of the propart and location of the residue which becomes the amino-terminus in the active enzyme was the same in the prochymosins. The maximum general proteolytic activity at pH 3.2 of newborn dog chymosin was 3-4% of that of porcine pepsin A at pH 2, whereas the milk clotting activity relative to the general proteolytic activity of newborn dog chymosin was much higher than that of calf chymosin. Agar gel electrophoresis at pH 5.2 of stomach extracts of individual dogs showed the existence of two predominant genetic variants of zymogen and enzyme. The two variants could not be distinguished by amino acid composition or amino-terminal sequencing, and no differences in the enzymatic properties of the genetic variants were observed. It was concluded that of the residues that participate in the substrate binding, calf and newborn dog chymosin differ in the following positions (porcine pepsin numbering, subsites in parentheses) : Ser 12 Thr(S$_4$), Leu 30 Val(S$_1$/S$_3$), His 74 Gln(S'$_2$), Val 111 Ile(S$_1$/S$_3$), Lys 220 Met(S$_4$). With regard to the low general proteolytic activity of newborn dog chymosin, the substitution Asp303 Val relative to calf chymosin may contribute to an explanation of this.
In this paper, we have reported two interesting flow effects arising in the TRFGE sequence using water flow phantom. First, we have shown that the TRFGE sequence is indeed not affected by "in-flow" effect from the unsaturated spins flowing into the imaging slice. Second, the enhancement of "in-plane flow" signal in the readout gradient direction was observed when the TRFGE sequence was used without flow compensation. These two results have many interesting applications in MR imaging other than fMRI. Results obtained were also compared with the results obtained by the conventional gradient echo(CGE) imaging. Experiments were performed at 4.7T MRI/S animal system (Biospec, BRUKER, Switzerland). A cylindrical phantom was made using acryl and a vinyl tube was inserted at the center(Fig. 1). The whole cylinder was filled with water doped with $MnCl_2$ and the center tube was filled with saline which flows in parallel to the main magnetic field along the tube. Tailored RF pulse was designed to have quadratic ($z^2$) phase distribution in slice direction(z). Imaging parameters were TR/TE = 55~85/10msec, flip angle = $30^{\circ}$, slice thickness = 2mm, matrix size = 256${\times}$256, and FOV= 10cm. In-flow effect : Axial images were obtained with and without flow using the CGE and TRFGE sequences, respectively. The flow direction was perpendicular to the image slice. In-plane flow : Sagittal images were obtained with and without flow using the TRGE sequence. The readout gradient was applied in parallel to the flow direction. We have observed that the "in-flow" effect did not affect the TRFGE image, while "in-plane flow" running along the readout gradient direction enhanced the signal in the TRFGE sequence when flow compensation gradient scheme was not used.
Mulberry plants (Morus alba L.) were grown in pots with the following different nitrogen sources: ammonium sulphate, urea, ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate + ammonium nitrate ($NO_3:NH_4$=2:1), and sodium nitrate. The effects of the nitrogen sources on mulberry yields, nitrogen recovery, distribution of ions and cation-anion balance (C-A) along leaf sequence and growth stage were investigated. The results were as follows: 1. Leaf yields and nitrogen recovery decreased with increasing $NO_3$-N application rates. 2. Relative cation contents in leaves in the early growth stages showed the following pattern : Na < Mg < Ca < K. However, the order of Ca and K reversed in the later stages. The order of anion contents chifted from $SO_4$ < $NO_3$ < Cl < $H_2PO_4$ in the early stages to $NO_3$ < Cl < $SO_4$ < $H_2PO_4$ in the later stages. 3. Contents of K, $H_2PO_4$, $SO_4$, $NO_3$, T-N and the sum of anion contents (${\sum}A$) were higher in upper leaves whereas Ca, Mg, Cl, the sum of cation contents (${\sum}C$) and (C-A) were higher in lower leaves. 4. When $NO_3$ in leaves decreased, Cl and K as counter-cations increased and consequently Ca decreased. 5. The (C-A) in leaves varied with leaf sequence and growth stage from 700 to 900 me/kg D.M.
Quantum chemical calculations are used to characterize the decomposition of nitrogenmonoxide over $Cu^{n+}$-Y zeolite. The method of theoretical calculations, such as CNDO/2, have been applied to cluster models representing cation sites in zeolite to obtain total energies, LUMO energies, and Wiberg bond orders. The calculated total energies and bond orders of cluster models showed the reaction mechanism of NO decomposition over $Cu^{n+}$ site in zeolite framework. The suggested cluster models of varying Si/Al ratios studied with exchange cations in the $Cu^+$ and in the $Cu^{2+}$ states. And the calculated LUMO energies can predict L acidifies of cluster models. The results from these experiments showed the possibility of the mechanism of NO decomposition, progressing adsorption of NO, conversion to $N_2$ and $O_2$, desorption of $N_2$ and $O_2$ in sequence. The L acidity of $Cu^{2+}$ ion in cation site is more strong than $Cu^+$.

Gene expression in five tissues of the abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) was investigated using an expressed sequence tag (EST) analysis. Randomly selected clones were obtained from cDNA libraries constructed with gill (GI), digestive diverticula(DD), hepatopancreas (HP), foot/mucus (FM) and rectangular muscle (RM). Of 1,235 clonesanalyzed (288 clones for GI, DD, HP each,166 for FM, and 205 for RM), 741 (60.0%) clones in total turned out to share significant similarity with the sequences from NCBI GenBank (less than 10/sup -3/ of e-values), 423 sequences showed poor similarity (> 10/sup -3/), and 71 sequences didn't match with any sequences in GenBank. The percent unique sequence (singleton) was ranged from 56.1% (RM) to 74.7% (FM) among libraries. On the other hand, overall percent singleton was 55.3% when all the ESTs from five libraries were assembled into contigs. Analysis of the organisms represented by the best hit for each EST (e-values < 10/sup -3/) showed that 23.8% matched with mammalian entries, 24.0% with mollusks, 14.4% with insects, 11.6% with fish and 26.2% with others. The expressed patterns differed among the tissues when judged by the categorization of the sequences from each library into 10 broad functional classes. In all the libraries, the class I (no hit o. poor similarity) was the largest category with an average of 40.1%. This largest class was followed by class V (general metabolisms) in DD (21.9%), GI (14.6%) and HP (16.7%), while the 'cell structure and motility'(class VI) was the second largest class in remaining two libraries (31.2% for RM and 9.6% for FM). The class IX (cell division and proliferation) was the smallest class in all the libraries (less than 3%). This report provides the first tissue-specific lists of expressed abalone genes, which could be a fundamental basis for genomics program of abalone species.
It has been reported that extracts of globe thistle (Echinops spp.) and thistle (Circium spp., Carduus spp. and Onopordum spp.) have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities. Methanol extracts of Echinops setifer and Carduus spp. were used to test and see if the extracts of these plants could suppress growth of Mycobacterium smegmatis and Mycobacterium fortuitum. Although extract of Echinops setifer showed no anti-mycobacterial activities, extract of Carduus spp. showed inhibition zones when tested with filter discs. Genomic DNA was isolated from Carduus spp. and PCR was performed to clone a DNA fragment containing ITS1, 5.8S rRNA gene and ITS2. A 733-bp PCR product was obtained and its DNA sequence was reported to the GenBank (accession number GU188570). BLAST search of the obtained DNA sequence did not show a match with any DNA sequences in the Genbank. Carduus crispus and Carduus defloratus had the closest phylogenetic relationships to this plant.
In stateless server, if an asynchronous cache invalidation scheme attempts to support local processing of read-only transaction in mobile client/sever database systems, a critical problem may occur ; the asynchronous invalidation reports provide no guarantees of waiting time for mobile transactions requesting commit. To solve this problem, the server in our algorithm broadcasts two kind of messages, asynchronous invalidation report to reduce transaction latency and periodic guide message to avoid the uncertainty of waiting time for the next invalidation report. The asynchronous invalidation report has its own sequence number and the periodic guide message has the sequence number of the most recently broadcast asynchronous invalidation report. A mobile client checks its cache validity by using the sequence numbers of these messages.

Frequency domain equalization is the most promising technology that has relatively low complexity in multipath channel. A frame of single carrier system with frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE) has cyclic prefix to mitigate effect of delay spread. After synchronization and equalization procedure on the SC-FDE system, common phase offset (CPO) that can introduce performance degradation caused by phase mismatch between transmitter and receiver oscillators is remained. In this paper, common phase offset tracking in frequency domain is proposed. To track CPO, constant amplitude zero autocorrelation code sequence as training sequence is adopted. By using numerical results, performance of mean square error is evaluated. The results show that MSE of CPO has similar performance compare to the time-domain estimation and there is no need of domain conversion.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the precision of three-dimensional (3D) images acquired using iTero$^{(R)}$(Align Technology Inc., San Jose, CA, USA) and Trios$^{(R)}$(3Shape Dental Systems, Copenhagen, Denmark) digital intraoral scanners, and to evaluate the effects of the severity of tooth irregularities and scanning sequence on precision. Methods: Dental arch models were fabricated with differing degrees of tooth irregularity and divided into 2 groups based on scanning sequence. To assess their precision, images were superimposed and an optimized superimposition algorithm was employed to measure any 3D deviation. The t-test, paired t-test, and one-way ANOVA were performed (p < 0.05) for statistical analysis. Results: The iTero$^{(R)}$ and Trios$^{(R)}$ systems showed no statistically significant difference in precision among models with differing degrees of tooth irregularity. However, there were statistically significant differences in the precision of the 2 scanners when the starting points of scanning were different. The iTero$^{(R)}$ scanner (mean deviation, $29.84{\pm}12.08{\mu}m$) proved to be less precise than the Trios$^{(R)}$ scanner ($22.17{\pm}4.47{\mu}m$). Conclusions: The precision of 3D images differed according to the degree of tooth irregularity, scanning sequence, and scanner type. However, from a clinical standpoint, both scanners were highly accurate regardless of the degree of tooth irregularity.

A novel gene for malonyl-CoA decarboxylase was discovered in the mat operon, which encodes a set of genes involved in the malonate metabolism of Rhizobium trifolii (An and Kim, 1998). The subunit mass determined by SDS-PAGE was 53 kDa, which correspond to the deduced mass from the sequence data. The molecular mass of the native enzyme determined by field flow fractionation was 208 kDa, indicating that R. trifolii malonyl-CoA decarboxylase is homotetrameric. R. trifolii malonyl-CoA decarboxylase converted malonyl-CoA to acetyl-CoA with a specific activity of 100 unit/mg protein. Methylmalonyl-CoA was decarboxylated with a specific activity of 0.1 unit/mg protein. p-Chloromercuribenzoate inhibited this enzyme activity, suggesting that thiol group(s) is(are) essential for this enzyme catalysis. Database analysis showed that malonyl-CoA decarboxylase from R. trifolii shared 32.7% and 28.1% identity in amino acid sequence with those from goose and human, respectively, and it would be located in the cytoplasm. However, there is no sequence homology between this enzyme and that from Saccharopolyspora erythreus, suggesting that malonyl-CoA decarboxylases from human, goose, and R. trifolii are in the same class, whereas that from S. erythreus is in a different class or even a different enzyme, methylmalonyl-CoA decarboxylase. According to the homology analysis, Cys-214 among three cysteine residues in the enzyme was found in the homologous region, suggesting that the cysteine was located at or near the active site and plays a critical role in catalysis.
