울산단층 주변 제4기 단층의 유형분류와 분절화 (Classification of Quaternary fault types and segmentation around the Ulsan Fault System)

  • Quaternary faults found around the Ulsan Fault System can be divided into 4 types based on the fault outcrop features : Type I fault cuts basements and Quaternary deposits of which remain on both hangwall and footwall. Type II fault is developed only in Quaternary deposit. Type III fault has inclined unconformity after Quaternary faulting. Type IV fault is common type around the Ulsan fault system and has horizontal unconformity surface after cutting earlier Quaternary deposit. After erosion, later Quaternary deposit overlays on both old deposit and basement. The Ulsan Fault System consists of three segments at large scale from north to south based on the lineament rank and shape, Quaternary fault location, and slip rate. The segment boundaries are identified by the existence of the two intervals which show no lineaments and Quaternary faults. But, if detail fault parameters could be obtained and used in segmentation, it can be divided into more than three segments.

흡수식 냉동시스템의 고장현상 분석과 진단 (Fault Symptom Analysis and Diagnosis for a Single-Effect Absorption Chiller)

  • In this study, fault symptoms were simulated and analyzed for a single-effect absorption chiller. The fault patterns of fault detection parameters were tabulated using the fault symptom simulation results. Fault detection and diagnosis by a process history-based method were performed for the in-situ experiment of a single-effect absorption chiller. Simulated fault modes for the in-situ experimental study are the decreases in cooling water and chilled water mass flow rates. Five no-fault reference models for fault detection of a single-effect absorption chiller were developed using fault-free steady-state data. A sensitivity analysis of fault detection using the normalized distance method was carried out with respect to fault progress. When mass flow rates of the cooling and chilled water decrease by more than 19.3% and 17.8%, respectively, the fault can be detected using the normalized distance method, and COP reductions are 6.8% and 4.7%, respectively, compared with normal operation performance. The pattern recognition method for fault diagnosis of a single-effect absorption chiller was found to indicate each failure mode accurately.

DEM자료를 이용한 울산단층대 동부지역의 최근 지형변화 해석 (Interpretation of recent topographic changes using the DEM data in the eastern part of Ulsan fault zone)

  • The Ulsan fault with NNW-SSE strike is a very wide and long lineament about 50km along Gyeungju-Ulsan line in the southeastern part of Korea. According to previous studies the Ulsan fault was not considered as a fault but only long lineament since no displacement was found along the lineament. Recently several Quaternary faults were reported in the northeastern part of lineament, which implies the neotectonic movement in this area. We analysed drainage pattern and stream gradient using the DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data for both side of Ulsan fault line to check the recent topographic changes which indicate neotectonic movement. The result shows that stream index in the eastern part of Ulsan fault is higher than the one in the western part. This means that recent tectonic movement is more active in the eastern part of Ulsan fault.

  • 입실 단층 파쇄대에는 다양한 종류의 단층점토가 산출된다. 이들 단층점토에 대한 X-선회절분석, 고해상도분말회절분석, 전자현미경 관찰 등을 통하여 단층점토의 광물조성에 대한 연구를 하였다. 입실 단층 파쇄대에서 나타나는 단층점토는 색깔에 따라 광물 조성의 차이가 나타난다. 입실단층에서 나타나는 단층점토의 특징적인 광물은 로몬타이트이며, 주변암석에서 이 광물이 나타나지 않는 것으로 보아 풍화 변질 산물인 것으로 추정된다. 입실 단층의 단층점토의 주 구성광물은 스멕타이트이다.

Intelligent Diagnosis of Broken Bars in Induction Motors Based on New Features in Vibration Spectrum

  • Many induction motor broken bar diagnosis methods are based on evaluating special components in machine signals spectrums. Current, power, flux, etc are among these signals. Frequencies related to a broken rotor fault are slip dependent, therefore, correct diagnosis of fault - especially when obtrusive frequency components are present - depends on accurate determination of motor velocity and slip. The traditional methods typically require several sensors that should be pre-installed in some cases. This paper presents a diagnosis method based on only a vibration sensor. Motor velocity oscillation due to a broken rotor causes frequency components at twice slip frequency difference around speed frequency in vibration spectrum. Speed frequency and its harmonics as well as twice supply frequency, can easily and accurately be found in a vibration spectrum, therefore th motor slip can be computed. Now components related to rotor fault can be found. It is shown that a trained neural network - as a substitute for an expert person - can easily categorize the existence and the severity of a fault according to the features extracted from the presented method. This method requires no information about th motor internal and has been able to diagnose correctly in all the laboratory tests.

Si(111)표면 위에서 Si의 동종층상성장에 관한 연구 (The Study of Si homoepitaxial growth on Si(111) Surface)

  • The growth mode of the Si layers which were grown on Si(111) by using Ag as surfactant were investigated by intensity oscillations of the RHEED specular spot at the different temperatures. we found that the introduction of Ag as the surfactant alters the growth mode from a three-dimensional clustering mechanism to a two-dimensional layer-by-layer growth. In the growth of Si layers on Si(111) with a surfactant Ag, At $450^{\circ}C$, RHEED intensity oscillation was very stable and periodic from early stage of deposition to 32 ML. RHEED patterns during homoepitaxial growth at $450^{\circ}C$ was changed from $7{\times}7$ structure into ${\sqrt{3}}{\times}{\sqrt{3}}$ structures. Since the ${\sqrt{3}}{\times}{\sqrt{3}}$ structure include no stacking fault, the stacking fault layer seems to be reconstructed into normal stacking one at transition from the $7{\times}7$ structure to a ${\sqrt{3}}{\times}{\sqrt{3}}$ one. We also found that the number of the intensity oscillation of the specular spot for Si growth with a surfactant Ag was more than for Si growth without a surfactant. This result may be explained that the activation energy decrease for the surface diffusion of Si atoms due to segregation of the surfactant toward the growing surface.

양산단층지역에 분포하는 퇴적암 및 화성암류에 대한 고자기 연구 (Palaeomagnetic Study of Sedimentary and Igneous Rocks in the Yangsan Strike-slip Fault Area, SE Korea)

  • It is a well known fact that the remanent magnetization direction of the Tertiary rocks is deflected significantly clockwise (about $50^{\circ}$) in the Tertiary basins of the southeastern part of Korean peninsula. This fact has been interpreted as an evidence of north-south spreading of the East Sea (Sea of Japan) and dextral strike-slip motion of the Yangsan fault. As deflection (rotation) of remanent magnetizations is frequently reported from various regions of the world in the vicinities of strike-slip fault, such phenomena are to be expected in the Yangsan fault region also. It was the purpose of this study to clarify whether such premise is right or not. A total of 445 independently oriented core samples were collected from Cretaceous rocks of various lithology (sedimentary rocks, andesites and I-type granites) in the Yangsan fault area. In spite of through AF and thermal demagnetization experiments, no sign of remanent magnetization deflection was found. Instead, palaeomagnetic poles calculated from formation-mean ChRM directions are very similar to those of contemporary (Barremian, and late Cretaceous-Tertiary) sedimentary and plutonic rocks in the other parts of $Ky{\check{o}}ngsang$ basin as well as those of China. Therefore, possibility of tilting of granite plutons and horizontal block rotation of study area is excluded. It is also concluded that the Yangsan fault did not take any significant role in the Cenozoic tectonic evolution of southeast Korea and the East Sea region. The boundary between rotated and unrotated region of remanent magnetization is not the Yangsan fault line, but must lie further east of it.

Use of In-Situ Optical Emission Spectroscopy for Leak Fault Detection and Classification in Plasma Etching

  • In-situ optical emission spectroscopy (OES) is employed for leak detection in plasma etching system. A misprocessing is reported for significantly reduced silicon etch rate with chlorine gas, and OES is used as a supplementary sensor to analyze the gas phase species that reside in the process chamber. Potential cause of misprocessing reaches to chamber O-ring wear out, MFC leaks, and/or leak at gas delivery line, and experiments are performed to funnel down the potential of the cause. While monitoring the plasma chemistry of the process chamber using OES, the emission trace for nitrogen species is observed at the chlorine gas supply. No trace of nitrogen species is found in other than chlorine gas supply, and we found that the amount of chlorine gas is slightly fluctuating. We successfully found the root cause of the reported misprocessing which may jeopardize the quality of thin film processing. Based on a quantitative analysis of the amount of nitrogen observed in the chamber, we conclude that the source of the leak is the fitting of the chlorine mass flow controller with the amount of around 2-5 sccm.

기흥저수지 지역의 지반조사를 통한 신갈단층대 확인 (Identification of the Singal Fault Zone in the Kiheung Reservoir Area by Geotechnical Investigations)

  • 이 연구에서는 경기육괴내에 존재하는 것으로 알려진 대규모 단층대인 신갈단층을 기흥지역에서 확인하였다. 기흥저수지 지역의 지질공학적 조사를 실시하여 단층대 위치 및 특징을 파악하였다. 이 단층대는 신갈단층으로 알려져 있으며, 남북방향으로 발달된 이 단층대는 추가령 열곡 내에서 리델 타입(Riedel-type)의 주향이동 단층으로 해석된다. 단층대를 따라서 62공의 시추조사와 전기비저항탐사 약 11 km, 바이브로사이즈 탄성파탐사 약 500 m를 실시하였다. 시추조사 및 물리탐사 결과, 최대 폭 300미터의 단층대는 주로 가우지 및 단층각력으로 구성되며, 망상의 2차 균열이 단층대 안에 서로 평행하게 발달함이 확인되었다. 시추조사 및 물리탐사 결과, 신갈단층의 휘어지는 부분인 기흥저수지 지역에서 꽃 구조(flower structure)와 유사한 지질구조의 발달 가능성이 있을 것으로 예측되지만, 연구지역의 특성상 노두 확인이 불가능하기 때문에 이와 같은 해석에는 불확실성이 있다. 따라서 단층대의 기하학적 특징, 단층간의 연결 형태 등에 대한 자세한 조사가 이루어질 필요가 있다.

경주-울산일원에 대한 지역지질 특성연구 : 울산단층주변 화강암류의 잔류자기와 대자율 (Geological Characteristics of Kyongju-Ulsan Area : Palaeomagnetism and Magnetic Susceptibility of the Granitic Rocks in the Ulsan Fault Area)

  • A total of 469 granitic samples were collected from 44 sites in the Ulsan fault area, southeast Korea. According to the previous petrographic studies, the granitic rocks have been divided into four groups (Hornblende biotite granodiorite, Hornblende granite, Biotite granite and Alkali-feldspar granite). NRM intensities, values of low field magnetic susceptibility, and magnetic behaviors during stepwise demagnetization experiments suggest rather a three-fold classification: In this scheme, Hornblende granite and Biotite granite are grouped together, as they did not show any significant differences in magnetic characteristics. Based on the Ishihara (1979)'s criterion, Alkali-feldspar granite is classified as ilmenite-series granite, whereas others are classified as magnetite-series granite. In the eastern part of the study area including the Tertiary basin area, declinations of site-mean characteristic remanent magnetizations (ChRMs) show clockwise deflection of more than 30 from the reference direction of east Asia. Both along and in the adjacent region of the Ulsan fault-line, however, no deflection of remanent direction was observed. A boundary line between the deflected and undeflected site-mean ChRMs is defined in this study, which runs roughly parallel to the Ulsan fault-line at the distance of about 6km eastward from the fault-line. We suggest that this newly found boundary line, which we call Yonil tectonic line, released dextral simple shear stress acted in the southeastern part of the Korean peninsula during the opening stage of the East Sea in the Early Cenozoic.
