Tunable Interlayer Exchange Coupling Energy (조절 가능한 층간교환상호작용에 관한 연구)

  • We theoretically demonstrate that the interlayer exchange coupling (IEC) energy can be manipulated by means of an external bias voltage in a $F_1/NM/F_2/S$$(F_1:ferromagnetic,\;NM:nonmagnetic\;metallic,\;F_2:ferromagnetic,\;S:semiconductor\;layers)$ four-layer system. It is well known that the IEC energy between two ferromagnetic layers separated by nanometer thick nonmagnetic layer depends on the spin-dependence of reflectivity to the $F_1/NM/F_2/S$ four-layer system, where the reflectivities at the interface in $NM/F_2$ interface also depends on $F_2/S$ interface due to the multiple reflection of an electron-like optics. Finally, the IEC energy depends on the spin-dependent electron reflectivity not only at the interfaces of $F_1/NM/F_2$, but also at the interface of $F_2/S$. Naturally the Schottky barrier is formed at the interface between metallic ferromagnetic layer and semiconductor, the Schottky barrier height and thickness can be tailored by an external bias voltage, which causes the change of the spin-dependent reflectivity at $F_2/S$ interface. We show that the IEC energy between two ferromagnetic layers can be controlled by an external bias voltage due ti the electron-optics nature using a simple free-electron-like one-dimensional model.

Encapsulation Method of OLED with Organic-inorganic Protective Thin Films Sealed with Flat Glass (평판 유리로 봉인된 유-무기 보호 박막을 갖는 OLED 봉지 방법)

  • To study encapsulation method for large-area organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), red emitting OLEDs were fabricated, on which $Alq_3$ as organic buffer layer and LiF and Al as inorganic protective layers were deposited to protect the damage of OLED by epoxy. And then the OLEDs were attached to flat glass by printing method using epoxy. The basic structure of OLED doped with rubrene of 1 vol.% as emitting layer is ITO(150 nm) / 2-TNATA(50 nm) / ${\alpha}$-NPD(30 nm) / $Alq_3$:Rubrene(30 nm) / $Alq_3$(30 nm) / LiF(0.7 nm) / Al(100 nm). In case of depositing $Alq_3$, LiF and Al and then attaching of flat glass onto OLED, current density, luminance, efficiency and driving voltage were not changed and lifetime was increased according to thickness of Al as inorganic protective layers. The lifetime of OLED/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al_4/glass structure was 139 hours increased by 15.8 times more than bare OLED of 8.8 hours and 1.6 times more than edge sealed OLED of 54.5 hours.

Na와 Dy 이온 첨가에 따른 MgWO4 형광체의 광학 특성

  • 본 연구에서는 고상반응법을 사용하여 제조한 MgWO4:Dy,Na 형광체의 광학특성과 결정구조를 조사하였다. Fig.1 XRD 주 피크는 $23.9^{\circ}$에서 관측 되었으며 (110) 면에서 발생한 회절신호이다. 결정구조는 단사정계임을 알 수 있었다. Dy,Na의 함량비를 0 mol, 0.02 mol, 0.04 mol, 0.06 mol, 0.08 mol, 0.10 mol로 변화시켜 합성했으나, 함량비와는 관계없이 동일한 XRD 회절 피크 패턴이 관측되었다. Fig.2. 그림의 220-340 nm에서 관찰되는 넓은 밴드는 $O2-{\rightarrow}W6+$에 의해 발생한 LMCT(ligand to metal charge transfer)이고, Dy에서 WO42- 그룹으로 에너지 전달에 의해서 생긴 CTB 이다. 합성한 형광체를 295 nm로 여기 시킨 모든 형광체 분말의 발광 스펙트럼은 Dy 이온의 $4F9/2{\rightarrow}6H15/2$ 전이에 의한 487 nm, $4F9/2{\rightarrow}6H13/2$ 전이에 의한 577 nm, $4F9/2{\rightarrow}6H11/2$ 전이에 의한 668 nm의 발광 스펙트럼이 관측되었다. Dy 이온이 0.02 mol일 때, 발광 세기가 가장 강하였으며, 몰 비가 증가함에 따라 발광의 세기는 감소하는 농도 소광현상이 관측되었다.

An Experimental Study on Optical and Physical Properties of Particulate Matter produced from F-76 Marine Diesel and JP-8 Aviation Fuels (F-76 선박용 디젤유 및 JP-8 항공유 입자상물질의 광학 및 물리적 특성에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • The dimensionless extinction constants of particulate matter for F-76 diesel and JP-8 aviation fuels were measured at both 633 nm and 853 nm in the transmission cell where the simultaneous gravimetric measurement of PM concentration is compared to the light extinction measurement. For the F-76 diesel PM, the average value of the dimensionless extinction constants at 633 nm was 8.8 whereas that of the dimensionless extinction constants for JP-8 was 9.8 at the same wavelength. As the wavelength is increased to 853 nm, the average value for the F-76 diesel was reduced to 8.2 whereas that for JP-8 was decreased to 8.9.

Synthesis and Photoluminescence Properties of CaWO4:Eu3+ Phosphors (CaWO4:Eu3+ 형광체의 합성과 발광 특성)

  • Red phosphors $Ca_{1-1.5x}WO_4:{Eu_x}^{3+}$ were synthesized with different concentrations of $Eu^{3+}$ ions by using a solid-state reaction method. The crystal structure of the red phosphors was found to be a tetragonal system. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed the (112) main diffraction peak centered at $2{\theta}=28.71^{\circ}$, and the size of crystalline particles exhibited an overall decreasing tendency according to the concentration of $Eu^{3+}$ ions. The excitation spectra of all the phosphors were composed of a broad band centered at 275 nm in the range of 230-310 nm due to $O^{2-}{\rightarrow}W^{6+}$ and a narrow band having a peak at 307 nm caused by $O^{2-}{\rightarrow}Eu^{3+}$. Also, the excitation spectrum presents several strong lines in the range of 305-420 nm, which are assigned to the 4f-4f transitions of the $Eu^{3+}$ ion. In the case of the emission spectrum, all the phosphor powders, irrespective of $Eu^{3+}$ ion concentration, indicated an orange emission peak at 594 nm and a strong red emission spectrum centered at 615 nm, with two weak lines at 648 and 700 nm. The highest red emission intensity occurred at x = 0.10 mol of Eu3+ ion concentration with an asymmetry ratio of 12.5. Especially, the presence of $Eu^{3+}$ in the $Ca_{1-1.5x}WO_4:{Eu_x}^{3+}$ shows very effective use of excitation energy in the range of 305-420 nm, and finally yields a strong emission of red light.

  • Colorants in green tea were extracted freeze-dried and analyzed to investigate the possibility of using as a natural dye. Fractionation of the colorants was carried out by column chromatograpy. Colorants in green tea were eluted into five fractions. All the fractions except fraction F2 showed absorption peakat 280nm. Fraction f2 showed absorption peak at 270nm and broad peak at 350nm, From the IR analysis it is speculated that fractions F2-F5 having similar stucture but different molecular weight are catechis. Silk fabrics dyes with fractions F1-F4 showed yellowish red color while sample dyed with fraction F5 showed red color. The colorants from green tea infusion was applied to silk wool nylon cotton and rayon fabrices. It showed relatively good affinity to protein and polyamide fibers bur low affinity to cellulose and regenerated cellulose fibers.

Synthesis and Luminescence Properties of Tb3+-Doped K2BaW2O8 Phosphors (Tb3+ 이온이 첨가된 K2BaW2O8 형광체의 합성 및 형광특성)

  • Green phosphors $K_2BaW_2O_8:Tb^{3+}$(1.0 mol%) were synthesized by solid state reaction method. Differential thermal analysis was applied to trace the reaction processes. Three endothermic values of 95, 706, and $1055^{\circ}C$ correspond to the loss of absorbed water, the release of carbon dioxide, and the beginning of the melting point, respectively. The phase purity of the powders was examined using powder X-ray diffraction(XRD). Two strong excitation bands in the wavelength region of 200-310 nm were found to be due to the ${WO_4}^{2-}$ exciton transition and the 4f-5d transition of $Tb^{3+}$ in $K_2BaW_2O_8$. The excitation spectrum presents several lines in the range of 310-380 nm; these are assigned to the 4f-4f transitions of the $Tb^{3+}$ ion. The strong emission line at around 550 nm, due to the $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_5$ transition, is observed together with weak lines of the $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_J$(J = 3, 4, and 6) transitions. A broad emission band peaking at 530 nm is observed at 10 K, while it disappears at room temperature. The decay times of $Tb^{3+}$ $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_5$ emission are estimated to be 4.8 and 1.4 ms, respectively, at 10 and 295 K; those of the ${WO_4}^{2-}$ exciton emissions are 22 and 0.92 ${\mu}s$ at 10 and 200 K, respectively.

Ionospheric Behaviors Over Korea Peninsula During the Super Geomagnetic Storm Using GPS Measurements (GPS 관측자료에 나타난 초대형 지자기 폭풍 기간 동안 한반도 상공 전리층 양상)

  • The super-geomagnetic storms called 2003 Halloween event globally occurred during the period of 29 through 31 which are the following days when the solar flares of X18 class exploded on 28 October 2003. The S4 index from GPS signal strength and the peak electron density ($NmF_2$) from GPS tomography method are analyzed according to the date. The occurrences of the cycle slip and scintillation in the GPS signals are 1,094 and 1,387 on 28 and 29 October, respectively and these values are higher than 604 and 897 on 30 and 31 October. These mean the ionospheric disturbances are not always generated by the period of geomagnetic storm. Therefore, GPS S4 index is useful to monitor the ionospheric disturbances. Behaviors of ionospheric electron density estimated from GPS tomography method are analyzed with the date. At UT = 18 hr, the maximum $NmF_2$ is shown on 28 October. It agrees with $NmF_2$ variation measured from Anyang ionosonde, and the GPS signal are better condition on 30 and 31 October than 28 October. In conclusion, GPS signal condition is relation with geomagnetic activities, and depend upon the variation of the electron density. We will study the long-term data to examine the relationship between the GPS signal quality and the electron density as the further works.

Optical Characteristics of ZnS/CaF2/ZnS/Cu with Different Optical Thickness of CaF2 Layer (CaF2 두께 변화에 따른 ZnS/CaF2/ZnS/Cu 다층 박막의 광특성)

  • Layered ZnS/$CaF_2$/ZnS/Cu film was deposited on glass substrate by using evaporation method. ZnS and $CaF_2$ were chosen as high and low refractive materials. Cu was used as mid-reflective layer. Reflectance with different optical thickness of $CaF_2$ ranging from $0.25{\lambda}\;to\;0.5{\lambda}$ were systematically investigated by using spectrophotometer. In order to expect the experimental results, the simulation program, the Essential Macleod Program(EMP) was adopted and compared with the experimental data. Based on the results taken by spectrophotometer, the ZnS/$CaF_2$/ZnS/Cu multi-layered thin film show the maximum reflectance of 80% at 625nm $(0.25{\lambda}\;in\;CaF_2)$ and 42% at 660nm $(0.5{\lambda}\;in\;CaF_2)$ respectively. As compared with the experimental results and simulation data, it was confirmed the experimental data is well matched with the EMP data.

Afterglow Effect from Adding BaF2 to Oxyfluoride Glass Ceramic Containing Eu2+-doped Nepheline

  • An oxyfluoride glass ceramic containing Eu2+-doped nepheline and LaF3 crystals was modified, with BaF2 replacing LaF3 up to 20 mole percent, and its luminescence change was monitored. With increasing BaF2 content, the greenish yellow emission centered at 540 nm under 400-nm excitation decreased, and a new afterglow emission from the modified ceramic was observed after removal of the excitation light source. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy (TEM-EDS) were used to investigate the changes in the crystalline phases within the glass matrix. Time dependent emission intensity was monitored to observe the afterglow, and the possible mechanism for the afterglow due to BaF2 addition was considered.
