In situ nitrogen doped hard carbon nanotubes (NHCNT) were fabricated by pyrolyzing tubular nitrogen doped conjugated microporous polymer. KOH activated NHCNT (K-NHCNT) were also prepared to improve their porous structure. XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, XPS, Raman spectra, $N_2$ adsorption-desorption, galvanostatic charging-discharge, cyclic voltammetry and EIS were used to characterize the structure and performance of NHCNT and K-NHCNT. XRD and Raman spectra reveal K-NHCNT own a more disorder carbon. SEM indicate that the diameters of K-NHCNT are smaller than that of NHCNT. TEM and EDS further indicate that K-NHCNT are hollow carbon nanotubes with nitrogen uniformly distributed. $N_2$ adsorption-desorption analysis reveals that K-NHCNT have an ultra high specific surface area of $1787.37m^2g^{-1}$, which is much larger than that of NHCNT ($531.98m^2g^{-1}$). K-NHCNT delivers a high reversible capacity of $918mAh\;g^{-1}$ at $0.6A\;g^{-1}$. Even after 350 times cycling, the capacity of K-NHCNT cycled after 350 cycles at $0.6A\;g^{-1}$ is still as high as $591.6mAh\;g^{-1}$. Such outstanding electrochemical performance of the K-NHCNT are clearly attributed by its superior characters, which have great advantages over those commercial available carbon nanotubes ($200-450mAh\;g^{-1}$) not only for its desired electrochemical performance but also for its easily and scaling-up preparation.
Isotherms, kinetics and thermodynamic properties for adsorption of Brilliant Green(BG), Quinoline Yellow(QY) dyes by activated carbon were carried out using variables such as dose of adsorbent, pH, initial concentration, contact time, temperature and competitive. BG showed the highest adsorption rate of 92.4% at pH 11, and QY was adsorbed at 90.9% at pH 3. BG was in good agreement with the Freundlich isothermal model, and QY was well matched with Langmuir model. The separation coefficients of isotherm model indicated that these dyes could be effectively treated by activated carbon. Estimated adsorption energy by Temkin isotherm model indicated that the adsorption of BG and QY by activated carbon is a physical adsorption. The kinetic experimental results showed that the pseudo second order model had a better fit than the pseudo first order model with a smaller in the equilibrium adsorption amount. It was confirmed that surface diffusion was a rate controlling step by the intraparticle diffusion model. The activation energy and enthalpy change of the adsorption process indicated that the adsorption process was a relatively easy endothermic reaction. The entropy change indicated that the disorder of the adsorption system increased as the adsorption of BG and QY dyes to activated carbon proceeded. Gibbs free energy was found that the adsorption reaction became more spontaneous with increasing temperature. As a result of competitive adsorption of the mixed solution, it was found that QY was disturbed by BG and the adsorption reduced.
VOCs such as acetone, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene were adsorbed in a fixed-bed adsorber using zeolite synthesized from coal fly ash and 4 kinds of activated carbon at 101.3 kPa. The adsorber was operated batchwise with the charge of 5 g adsorbent to obtain the breakthrough curve of VOCs. Experiments were carried out at $40^{\circ}C$, nitrogen flow rate of $70cm^3/min$ and sparger temperature of $30^{\circ}C$. The deactivation model was tested for these curves by combining the adsorption of VOCs and the deactivation of adsorbent particles. The observed values of the adsorption rate constant and the deactivation rate constant were evaluated through analysis of the experimental breakthrough data using a nonlinear least square technique. The experimental breakthrough data were fitted very well to the deactivation model than the adsorption isotherm models in the literature. Also, adsorption capacities of adsorbents were obtained from the breakthrough curve to observe the correlation between adsorption capacity and the physical properties of VOCs.

Ordered mesoporous silica (MCM-41) materials with different textural properties were prepared using alkyl (dodecyl, cetyl, eicosane) trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB, CTAB, ETAB, respectively) as structure directing surfactants, functionalized with amine groups and used as adsorbent for the toxic metal ions, Cr (VI), As (V), Pb (II) and Hg (II). Amino functionalization of mesoporous MCM-41 was achieved by cocondensation of N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)-propyl] aniline with tetraethyl orthosilicate. Adsorption isotherm and adsorption capacity of the amine functionalized materials for Cr (VI), As (V), Pb (II) and Hg (II) ions were followed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Results demonstrate that amine functionalized MCM-41 prepared with ETAB showed higher adsorption capacity for Cr (VI), As (V), Pb (II) and Hg (II) ions in comparison to MCM-41 prepared with CTAB and DTAB. The higher adsorption capacity for MCM-41(ETAB) was correlated with amine content in the material (determined by CHN analysis) and relative decrease in pore volume and pore diameter. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, nitrogen adsorptiondesorption measurements and Fourier Transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) were used to follow the changes in the textural parameters and surface properties of the mesoporous materials as a result of amine functionalization to correlate with the adsorption characteristics. The adsorption process was found to depend on the pH of the medium.

Bagasse fly ash (BFA) is one of the important wastes generated in the sugar industry; it has been studied as a prospective low-cost adsorbent in the removal of congo red (CR) from aqueous solutions. Chemical treatment with $H_2O_2$ was applied in order to modify the adsorbability of the raw BFA. Batch studies were performed to evaluate the influence of various experimental parameters such as dye solution pH, contact time, adsorbent dose, and temperature. Both the adsorbents were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrophotometer and nitrogen adsorption at 77 K. Equilibrium isotherms for the adsorption of CR were analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin models using non-linear regression technique. Intraparticle diffusion seems to control the CR removal process. The obtained experimental data can be well described by Langmuir and also followed second order kinetic models. The calculated thermodynamic parameters indicate the feasibility of the adsorption process for the studied adsorbents. The results indicate that BFA can be efficiently used for the treatment of waste water containing dyes.

Removal of methyl mercaptan was investigated using adsorption on virgin activated carbon (VAC) and modified activated carbons with acidic chemicals in the present work. CAC, NAC, AAC and SAC were represented as activated carbons modified with HCI, HNO$_{3}$, CH$_{3}$COOH and H$_{2}$S0$_{4}$ ,respectively The pore structures were evaluated using nitrogen isotherm. The surface properties of virgin activated carbon and modified activated carbons were characterized by EA, pH of carbon surface and acid value from Boehm titration. The modification of activated carbon with acidic chemicals resulted in a decrease in BET surface area, micropore volume and surface pH, but an increase in acid value. The order of the adsorption capacity of activated carbons was NAC>AAC>SAC>CAC>VAC, and in agreement with that of acid value of activated carbons, whereas in disagreement with that of micropore volume of activated carbons. It appeared that chemical adsorption played an important role in methyl mercaptan on modified activated carbons with acidic chemicals compared to virgin activated carbon. Modifying activated carbon with acidic chemicals enabled to significantly enhance removal of methyl mercaptan.

The performance of five kind adsorbents, which can reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) from the diesel engine occupying 85% of the fishing boat, was carried out and the emission reduction filter was manufactured and evaluated in the adsorption efficiency of the emission gas for 240 KW diesel portable generator. As a NOx emission filter made of mordenite which has an excellent cation exchange capacity was manufactured by ball type adsorbents having excellent specific surface area. The adsorption efficiency of mordenite material applying the emission reduction filter began to show up at the operating time 10 minutes in comparison with the activated carbon and zeolite materials, and it was exposed to continue until 100% capability with passing by 20 minutes. So the adsorption efficiency of the NOx reduction filter consistently maintained at the averaged 80%.

A technique to measure the adsorption characteristic of surface area and pore size distribution is proposed and its performance is examined. While the existing equipment utilizes liquid nitrogen, the proposed uses carbon dioxide at the room temperature leading to the small measuring device with easy operation and short measurement time. The performance of the device has been examined with micro-particle carbon cryogel and bamboo activated carbon. The results from the proposed device compared with those of the adsorption apparatus indicate that the measurement of meso-porous material is comparable but micro-porous material gives some error.
A copper-based metal organic framework (MOF) named Cu-BTC, also known as HKUST-1, was successfully synthesized by using a solvothermal method. The properties of the Cu-BTC sample were characterized with Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) for phase structure, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) for thermal stability, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for crystal structure, and Nitrogen adsorption-desorption for pore textural structure. The analysis results displayed that the Cu-BTC sample exhibited a good crystal structure with uniform size of octahedral particles. The BET data revealed a high surface area of $1457 \;m^2g^{-1}$ and a pore volume of $0.60\; cm^3g^{-1}$. The Cu-BTCs ample was also studied for $CO_2$ adsorption and exhibited a maximum $CO_2$ adsorption capacity of 170 mg/g of the sorbent (3.8 mol/kg) at $25^{\circ}C$.
