The approximate rates and stoichiometry of the reaction of excess 1,3,2-biphenyldioxaborepin [2,2'-biphenoxyborane (BPB)] with selected organic compounds containing representative functional groups under the standardized conditions (tetrahydrofuran, hydride to compound being 4 : 1, room temperature) was examined in order to define the characteristics of the reagent for selective reductions and compare its reducing power with those of other substituted boranes. The results indicate that BPB is unique and the reducing power is much stronger than that of other dialkoxyboranes, such as catecholborane and di-s-butoxyborane. BPB reduces aldehydes, ketones, quinones, lactones, tertiary amides, and sulfoxides readily. Carboxylic acids, anhydrides, esters, and nitriles are also reduced slowly. However, the reactions of acid chlorides, epoxides, primary amides, nitro compounds, and disulfides with this reagent proceed only sluggishly.
The approximate rate and stoichiometry of the reaction of excess Thexylbromoborane-methyl sulfide, $ThxBHBr{\cdot}SMe_2,$ with selected organic compounds containing representative functional groups under standardized conditions (methylene chloride, $0^{\circ}C)$ were studied in order to characterize the reducing characteristics of the reagent for selective reductions. The selectivity of the reagent was also compared to the selectivity of thexylchloroborane-methyl sulfide. Thexylbromoborane appears to be a much milder and hence more selective reducing agent than thexylchloroborane. The reagent tolerates many organic functionalities. Thus, the reagent shows very little reactivity or no reactivity toward acid chlorides, esters, epoxides, amides, nitro compounds including simple olefins. However, this reagent can reduce aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, nitriles, and sulfoxides. Especially the reagent reduces carboxylic acids including ${\alpha},{\beta}$ -unsaturated ones and nitriles to the corresponding aldehydes. In addition to that, thexylbromoborane shows good stereoselectivity toward cyclic ketones, much better than the chloro-derivative.

The effects of dietary mannan oligosaccharides, Lactobacillus plantarum, Bacillus subtilis, and Bacillus licheniformis supplementation on hybrid grouper Epinephelus akaara ♀×Epinephelus lanceolatus ♂ were evaluated. The fish were fed a basal diet and five other diets consisting of 0.6% mannan oligosaccharides, L. plantarum, B. subtilis, and B. licheniformis and mixture of each 0.15% prebiotic and all the probiotics (designated as MOS, LP, BS, BL, and SYN) for 56 days. Growth performance and feed utilization showed no significant differences among all experimental groups. Lipid level of whole-body was significantly high in MOS and BL groups. Plasma aspartate aminotransferase was significantly low in BL and SYN groups. Nitro-blue tetrazolium, lysozyme and anti-protease, and glutathione peroxidase in BS, SYN, and all probiotic groups, respectively, were significantly high. Intestinal Vibrio bacteria was significantly low in all probiotic and SYN groups. Gene expression of interleukin-1β and interleukin-10 in SYN group; transforming growth factor β2 in MOS and BS groups, toll-like receptor 2-2 in BS and BL groups; and C-type lectin in MOS, LP and SYN groups were significantly upregulated. Our findings indicate that mannan oligosaccharides, L. plantarum, B. subtilis, and B. licheniformis could improve innate immunity, antioxidant capacity, anti-inflammation, and intestinal microbiota of hybrid grouper.
Purpose: This study was conducted to assess the preventive effect of Actinidia valvata Dunn (AVD) extract on an animal model of gastrointestinal carcinogenesis on the basis of changes in tumor incidence, cell proliferation, and apoptosis. Materials and Methods: Seventy-five male Wistar rats were divided into five different treatment groups with 15 rats in each group. Group I was given normal feed, whereas Groups II to IV were treated with 10% sodium chloride in the first six weeks and 100ug/mL of N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) in drinking water for 24 weeks. Group II was then given normal feed, whereas Group III was given AVD extract (0.24g/kg/day) for 12 weeks. Group IV was given AVD extract from the first week to the 36th week, whereas Group V was treated with AVD extract alone for 36 weeks. All rats were sacrificed at the end of the 36-week experiment and assessed for the presence of gastrointestinal tumors. The occurrence of cancer was evaluated by histology. Bax, Bcl-2, Caspase-3, and cyclinD1 were determined by immunohistochemical staining and Western blotting. Results: The incidences of gastric cancer were 0% in Group I, 73.3% in Group II, 33.3% in Group III, 26.7% in Group IV, and 0% in Group V. Bcl-2 and cyclinD1 expression was decreased in AVD extract treated groups, whereas Bax and Caspase-3 expression was increased. Comparison with group II revealed significant differences (p<0.01). Conclusions: AVD extract exhibits an obvious preventive effect on gastrointestinal carcinogenesis induced by MNNG in rats through the regulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis.
The present study was undertaken to investigate the role of endogenous nitric oxide in renin release under different physiological conditions. In the first series of experiments, renin release was either inhibited by acute volume-expansion (VE) or stimulated by clipping one renal artery in the rat. VE was induced by intravenous infusion of saline (0.9% NaCl) up to 5% of the body weight over 45 min under thiopental (50 mg/kg, IP) anesthesia. VE caused a decrease of plasma renin concentration (PRC). With $N^G-nitro-L-arginine$ methyl ester $(L-NAME,\;5\;{\mu}g/kg\;per\;min)$ superadded to VE, PRC decreased further. The magnitude of increase in plasma atrial natriuretic peptide levels following VE was not affected by the L-NAME. In two-kidney, one clip rats, L-NAME-supplementation resulted in a decrease, and L-arginine-supplementation an increase of PRC. Plasma atrial natriuretic peptide levels were significantly lower in the L-arginine group than in the control. Blood pressure did not differ among the L-NAME, L-arginine, and control groups. In another series of experiments, the renin response to a blockade of NO synthesis was examined using in vitro preparations from isolated renal cortex. L-NAME significantly increased basal renin release, although it was without effect on the isoproterenol-stimulated release. These findings suggest that endogenous nitric oxide significantly contributes to the renin release. Since many factors may affect the renin release in vivo, an interaction between NO and renin under various pathophysiological states is to be further defined.
Korean acid clays and silica gel were put into action on benzene solution of dye, such as aniline yellow, o-nitro aniline and oil orange, and then the adsorptivity of dye in nonaqueous solution was measured, with the result that adsorptivity was greater with silica than acid clays and it had no relation to acidity. And when chemical compounds, such as amine, alcohol, halogen derivative, were added to each dye solution by 10%(in volume), the change of the adsorptivity of dye by solid acid(that is, the interfered adsorption rate) decreased in order of amine > alcohol > halogen derivative, and in homologue the smaller the molecular weight, the larger was the effect. So adsorption in nonaqueous solution was a selective adsorption of chemical compounds which contained negative groups such as amine and hydroxyl radicals, and it had no relation to surface tension and showed inverted phenomenon of Traube series. It is guessed that the inverted phenomenon (the interfered adsorption phenomenon) was due to the polar chemical adsorption between active $SiO_2$ which was an origin of solid acid and the adsorbed substances, considering that the order of inversion was nearly in accord with dipole moment of added solvents. The results of this study led to find adsorption mechanism and inverted phenomenon of Traube series in nonaqueous solution.

The three-dimensional metal complex inclusion compound $Cd(pn)Ni(CN)_4{\cdot}0.5NO_2C_6H_5$(pn: 1,2-diaminopropane=propylenediamine) crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group, $Pn2_1$a, (a=13.868(5), b=26.591(4), c=7.840(1)${\AA}$, V=2891(1)${\AA}^3$, Z=4), R=0.054 for 2800 independent reflections. The host structure of the inclusion compound appears the same one(T-type) of inclusion compound with branched aliphatic-guest molecule. The nitrobenzeneguest molecule attains the stable position in the nodal channel of T-type by placing the polar nitro group between the pn-amino groups at the node and the bulky aromatic ring in the antinodal zone of the channel. The substituted aromatic guest molecule is accommodated in the host structure of metal complex $Cd(pn)Ni(CN)_4$ with channel cavity.

Roxarsone (3-nitro-4-hydroxyphenylarsonic acid) has been used as feed additives in poultry industries to improve production and control coccidiosis. The effect of high dietary levels of Roxarsone (ROX) on the performance and function of internal organs and the kinetics of recovery as well as its after-effects were examined in laying hens. The inclusion rates of ROX were 0, 100, 200, 300, and 400 mg per kg feed. Inclusion up to 200 mg did not show any adverse effects (p>0.05), whereas in the 300 and 400 mg groups, significant effects, particularly in the latter, were observed for three weeks after ROX addition (p<0.05). Recovery of the physical appearance occurred soon after ROX addition was withdrawn. Recovery of performance and internal organs, however, appeared to be dependent on the amount of residual ROX in the body; as the amount of ROX decreased, the toxic effect of ROX also decreased. In the third week after the withdrawal of ROX, complete recovery was observed in the lower dosage groups (100 or 200 mg groups) (p>0.05), whereas in the higher dosage groups (300 or 400 mg groups), recovery took at least five weeks; when complete recovery was observed in egg production and in liver weight (p>0.05). On the other hand, ROX might have damaged the liver and other tissues. The recovery of liver weight was probably due to accumulation of fatty particles rather than repair. It appeared, therefore, there were little after-effects of ROX on the hen's physical appearance, but some internal organs were probably damaged.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Ribes khorasanicum (R. khorasanicum); a plant growing in north Khorasan of Iran; on cardiovascular and stress oxidative in acute hypertension induced by N-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), anitric oxide synthase inhibitor. Methods: Rats were divided into Control, L-NAME (10 mg/kg), Sodium Nitroprusside (SNP) (50 mg/kg) + L-NAME and three treated groups with R. khorasanicum (4, 12 and 24 mg/kg) groups + L-NAME. L-NAME and SNP were injected intravenously and extract intraperitoneal. In R. khorasanicum groups, L-NAME was injected 30 min after injection of the extract. Systolic blood pressure (SBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) were recorded continuously using power lab software. At the end of study oxidative stress parameters including of total thiol content (SH), malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in heart and aorta of all groups were also measured. Results: In groups 4 and 24 mg/kg extract +L-NAME, there was a non-significant decrease in SBP and MAP compared to L-NAME group but dose 12 mg/kg significantly attenuate the effect of L-NAME(P < 0.05). In L-NAME group the heart and aorta tissues antioxidant enzymes levels decreased, while in treated rats these enzymes significantly increased. Conclusion: The extract of R. khorasanicum in dose 12 mg/kg show anti-hypertensive effect that is mediated by an effect on NO system or antioxidant parameters.

This study was carried out to investigate if nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitors modulate airway inflammation induced by diesel exhaust particles (DEP). N$\^$G/-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), a potent constitutive NOS (cNOS) inhibitor, and aminoguanidine (AG), a selective inducible NOS (iNOS) inhibitor, were administered to mice in their drinking water for 7 weeks. Airway inflammation was elicited by the repeated intratracheal administration of DEP. The results showed that macrophages, inflammatory eosinophils and neutrophils in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluids by intratracheal DEP instillation were significantly suppressed in the mice treated with two NOS inhibitors toghther with DEP. The suppression of these cells was more effective in AG treated groups than in L -NAME treated groups. NOS inhibitor treatment also reduced interleukin -5 (IL-5 in the BAL fluids and lung homogenates. Additionally, it was found that eosinophil peroxidase (EPO) activity in the BAL fluids was also decreased by NOS inhibitor treatment. These results suggest that nitric oxide (NO) is produced in airway inflammation by repeated DEP instillation, and that iNOS inhibition as well as cNOS inhibition can play a modulating role in this airway inflammation by DEP.
