The chemical heat storage as the one way of utilization for high temperature solar energy was considered. The stram reforming reaction of methane was chosen for endothermic reaction. The reactor was made of stainless steel and the dimension was 6.25 mm I.D. and 30 cm long coiled tube because of the geometry requirement of solar receiver. The methane conversion was increased linearly with reaction temperature and nickel content of catalyst. The methane conversion was 60% at $600^{\circ}C$ and 90% at $900^{\circ}C$. The feasibility of steam reforming of methane as the conversion of solar energy to chemical heat storage was confirmed.

The test equipment becomes more important with the development of semiconductor industry. MEMS probe is an important testing component to detect the defects from the generated electric signal when it contacts the metal pad of semiconductor devices. Ni-Pd alloy has been paid attention to as a candidate of MEMS probe material because of its high surface hardness and relatively low resistivity. In this study, electroplated Ni-Pd alloy has been prepared by using ethylene diamine as a complexing agent. Solid solution alloy coating could be formed when concentration of palladium chloride and current density were in the ranges of 1~5 mM and $0.2{\sim}1.5A/dm^2$, respectively. The increase of current density brought about an decrease in palladium content, which made both of lattice parameter and grain size smaller. As a result of grain refinement, high hardness could be obtained. However, surface cracking was observed due to residual stress when the current density was above $1.3A/dm^2$. When effects of heat treatment temperature on hardness and sheet resistance were investigated, the accompanied grain growth decreased both of them. The decrease of hardness remained stable at a temperature of $200^{\circ}C$. The sheet resistance was drastically reduced at $100^{\circ}C$. After that, it was found to become constant.

The properties of methane oxidation were studied in this research over transition metal containing $CeO_2$ (TM/$CeO_2$, TM=Ni, Co, Cu, Fe) with TM content of 5 wt. % at atmospheric pressure. The characteristics of catalysts were investigated by various characterization techniques, including XRD, GC, SEM and EPMA analyses. The catalytic tests were carried out in a fixed Rmix ratio of 1.5 ($CH_4/O_2$) in a fixed-bed reactor operating isothermally at atmospheric pressure. Only the Ni/$CeO_2$ catalysts showed syngas production above $400^{\circ}C$ via typical partial oxidation reaction whereas other catalysts induced complete oxidation resulting in the production of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ in whole reaction temperature range. From the quantitative analysis on carbon deposition after catalytic tests, Cu/$CeO_2$ was found to show the highest resistance on carbon deposition. Therefore Cu can be proposed as an efficient catalyst element which can be combined with a conventional Ni-based SOFC anode to enhance the carbon tolerance.
Waste can be utilized as secondary or alternative fuel. Solid recovered fuel (SRF) and dried sewage sludge were combusted to investigate heavy metal emissions from their combusiton in this study. Content of copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb), arsenic (As) and mercury (Hg) of coal, SRF and dried sewage sludge were determined, respectively. Concentrations of these heavy metals in the combustion flue gas were also determined. As a result, emissions of gas-phase Cu, Cr, Cd, Ni, Zn, Pb and As compounds were found to be little. However, a significant amount of gas-phase Hg was emitted from combustion of coal, SRF and dried sewage sludge. While SRF showed a high mercury oxidation percentage in its combustion flue gas, dried sewage sludge showed a high level of gaseous mercury emission.
A commercial NiO (green nickel oxide, 86 wt% Ni) powder was reduced using a batch-type fluidized-bed reactor in a temperature range of 500 to $600^{\circ}C$ and in a residence time range of 5 to 90 min. The reduction rate increased with increases in temperature; however, agglomeration and sintering (sticking) of Ni particles noticeably took place at high temperatures above $600^{\circ}C$. An increasing tendency toward sticking was also observed at long residence times. In order to reduce the oxygen content in the powder to a level below 1% without any sticking problems, which can lead to defluidization, proper temperature and residence time for a stable fluidized-bed operation should be established. In this study, these values were found to be $550^{\circ}C$ and 60 min, respectively. Another important condition is the specific gas consumption rate, i.e. the volume amount ($Nm^3$) of hydrogen gas used to reduce 1 ton of Green NiO ore. The optimum gas consumption rate was found to be $5,000Nm^3/ton$-NiO for the complete reduction. The Avrami model was applied to this study; experimental data are most closely fitted with an exponent (m) of $0.6{\pm}0.01$ and with an overall rate constant (k) in the range of 0.35~0.45, depending on the temperature.
In order to study the effects of chemical fertilizer and organic fertilizer on the toxic mineral content in the absence or presence of the wood extraction, the lettuce an experiment of fatal 20 treatments was conducted far a peried of 10 weeks. The results obtained from the experiment are summarized as follows; 1. The mineral contents of the lettuce in the wood extraction-treated group and the wood extraction non-treated group showed no conspicious differenves. 2. These are no prominent differences in the mineal contents(Chromium, Nickel, Lead, and Aluminium) in the lettuce between the organic fertifized group and the lettuce raised in the chemical fertilized group. 3. Mercury was not detected in all samples of lettuces raised in all treatments.4. Cadmium contents in the lettuce samples were increased as the amount of organic fertilizer was increased from 25% to 100%.
Cryptand series ion exchange resins were synthesized with 1-aza-12-crown-4 macrocyclic ligand attached to styrene (4 series dangerous matter) divinylbenzene (DVB) copolymer with crosslink of 1%, 2%, 4% and 8% by a substitution reaction. The synthesis of these resins was confirmed by content of chlorine, element analysis, electron micrograph, and IR-spectrum. The effects of pH, time, dielectric constant of solvent and crosslink on adsorption of uranium (${UO_2}^{2+}$) ion were investigated. The uranium ion showed a fast adsorption on the resins above pH 3. The optimum equilibrium time for adsorption of metallic ions was about two hours. The adsorption selectivity determined in ethanol was in increasing order uranium (${UO_2}^{2+}$) > nickel ($Ni^{2+}$) > gadolinium ($Gd^{3+}$) ion. The adsorption was in order of 1%, 2%, 4%, and 8% crosslinked resin and adsorption of resin decreased in proportion to order of dielectric constant of solvents.
This paper studies the effects of the Mn-site substitution by nickel on the magnetic properties and the magnetocaloric properties of $La_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}Mn_{1-x}Ni_xO_3$ (x = 0, 0.05 and 0.1). The orthorhombic crystal structures of the samples are confirmed by the room temperature X-ray diffraction. The dependence of the Curie temperature ($T_C$) and the magnetic entropy change (${\Delta}S_M$) on the Ni doping content was investigated. The samples with x = 0 had the first order phase transition, while the samples with x = 0.05 and 0.1 had the second order phase transition. As the concentration of Ni increased, the maximum entropy change (${\mid}{\Delta}S_M{\mid}_{max}$) decreased gradually, from 2.78 $J{\cdot}kg^{-1}{\cdot}K^{-1}$ (x = 0) to 1.02 $J{\cdot}kg^{-1}{\cdot}K^{-1}$ (x = 0.1), in a magnetic field change of 15 kOe. The measured value of $T_C$ was 185 K, 150 K and 145 K for x = 0, 0.05 and 0.1, respectively. The phase transition temperatures became wider as x increased. It indicates that the Mn-site substitution by Ni may be used to tailor the Curie temperature in $La_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}Mn_{1-x}Ni_xO_3$.
In this study, silica nanowires were formed using silicon oxide films with different oxygen contents, and their microstructure and physical properties were compared with those of silica nanowires formed using Si wafers. The silicon oxide films were fabricated by using a plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition method. Silica nanowires were formed by thermally annealing silicon oxide films coated with nickel films as a catalyst. In the case of silicon oxide films having an oxygen content of approximately 50 at.% or less, the formation mechanism, microstructure, and physical properties of the nanowires were not substantially different from those of the silicon wafer. In particular, the uniformity of the thickness showed better behavior in the silicon oxide films. These results imply that silicon oxide films can be used as an alternative for fabricating high-quality silica nanowires at low cost.
Although the development of high-Nickel is being actively carried out to solve the capacity limitation and the high price of raw cobalt due to the limitation of high voltage use of the existing LiCoO2, the deterioration of the battery characteristics due to the decrease in structural stability and increase of the Ni content. It is an important cause of delaying commercialization. Therefore, in order to increase the high stability of the Ni-rich ternary cathod material LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2, precursor Ni0.6Co0.2Mn0.2-x(OH)2/xTiO2 was prepared using a nanosized TiO2 suspension type source for uniform Ti substitution in the precursor. It was mixed with Li2CO3, and after heating, the cathode active material LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2-xTixO2 was synthesized, and the physical properties according to the Ti content were compared. Through FE-SEM and EDS mapping analysis, it was confirmed that a positive electrode active material having a uniform particle size was prepared through Ti-substituted spherical precursor and Particle Size Analyzer and internal density and strength were increased, XRD structure analysis and ICP-MS quantitative analysis confirmed that the capacity was effectively maintained even when the Ti-substituted positive electrode active material was manufactured and charging and discharging were continued at high temperature and high voltage.
