In this study, we characterized steam reforming reactions and surface of $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalysts. Ni-Mo based catalysts were prepared by loading Mo as the co-catalyst and reaction activities of the Ni-Mo based catalysts were compared with those of Ni-based catalysts. Through the $H_2$-TPR and XPS analysis it was confirmed that this characteristic efficiency. $O_2$-TPO analysis was performed to examine the deposition characteristics, bonding structures and evaporation characteristics of carbon deposited on the surface of catalysts after long run experiments were performed for steam reforming reactions. As the results, it was found that durability was improved in Ni-Mo based catalysts inhibiting formation of graphitic carbon species which reduced reaction activities of the catalysts by strongly interacting with Ni in the steam reforming reaction.

Flower-like nickel oxide (NiO) catalysts were coated on NiCrAl alloy foam using a hydrothermal method. The structural, morphological, and chemical bonding properties of the NiO catalysts coated on the NiCrAl alloy foam were investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. To obtain flower-like morphology of NiO catalysts on the NiCrAl alloy foam, we prepared three different levels of pH of the hydrothermal solution: pH-7.0, pH-10.0, and pH-11.5. The NiO morphology of the pH-7.0 and pH-10.0 samples exhibited a large size plate owing to the slow reaction of the hydroxide ($OH^-$) and nickel ions ($Ni^+$) in lower pH than pH-11.5. Flower-like NiO catalysts (${\sim}4.7{\mu}m-6.6{\mu}m$) were formed owing to the fast reaction of $OH^-$ and $Ni^{2+}$ by increased $OH^-$ concentration at high pH. Thus, the flower-like morphology of NiO catalysts on NiCrAl alloy foam depends strongly on the pH of the hydrothermal solution.
$Mo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3catalysts$ modified with Fe, Co, and Ni were prepared by impregnation method and catalytic activity for water gas shift reaction was examined. The optimum amount of Mo loaded for the reaction was 10 wt% $MoO_3$ to ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3.$ The catalytic activity of $MoO_3/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3was$ increased by modifying with Fe, Co, and Ni in the order of Co${\thickapprox}$ Ni > Fe. The optimum amounts of Co and Ni added were 3 wt% based on CoO and NiO to 10 wt% $MoO_3/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, restectively. The TPR (temperature-programmed reduction) analysis revealed that the addition of Co and Ni enganced the reducibility of the catalysts. The results of both catalytic activity and TPR experiments strongly suggest that the redox property of the catalyst is an important factor in water gas shift reaction on the sulfided Mo catalysts, which could be an evidence of oxy-sulfide redox mechanism.
The catalytic activity of precious metals(Rh, Pd, Pt) and nickel catalysts supported on ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3\;and\;CeO_2$ in the partial combustion of methane(PCM) to syngas was investigated based on the product distribution in a fixed bed now reactor under atmospheric condition and also on analysis results by SEM, XPS, TPD, BET, and XRD. The activity of the catalysts based on the syngas yield increased in the sequence $Rh(5)/CeO_2{\geq}Ni(5)/CeO_2>>Rh(5)/Al_2O_3>Pd(5)/Al_2O_3>Ni(5)/Al_2O_3$. Compared to the precious catalysts, the syngas yield and stability of the $Ni(5)/CeO_2$ catalyst were almost similar to $(5)/CeO_2$ catalyst, and superior to these of any other catalysts. The syngas yield of $Ni(5)/CeO_2$ catalyst was 90.66% at 1023 K. It could be suggested to be the redox cycle of the successive reaction and formation of active site, $Ni^{2-}$ and the lattice oxygen, $O^{2-}$ produced due to reduction of $Ce^{4-}$ to $Ce^{3-}$.
NiO catalysts/$Al_2O_3$/FeCrAl alloy foam for hydrogen production was prepared using atomic layer deposition (ALD) and subsequent dip-coating methods. FeCrAl alloy foam and $Al_2O_3$ inter-layer were used as catalyst supports. To improve the dispersion and stability of NiO catalysts, an $Al_2O_3$ inter-layer was introduced and their thickness was systematically controlled to 0, 20, 50 and 80 nm using an ALD technique. The structural, chemical bonding and morphological properties (including dispersion) of the NiO catalysts/$Al_2O_3$/FeCrAl alloy foam were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy. In particular, to evaluate the stability of the NiO catalysts grown on $Al_2O_3$/FeCrAl alloy foam, chronoamperometry tests were performed and then the ingredient amounts of electrolytes were analyzed via inductively coupled plasma spectrometer. We found that the introduction of $Al_2O_3$ inter-layer improved the dispersion and stability of the NiO catalysts on the supports. Thus, when an $Al_2O_3$ inter-layer with a 80 nm thickness was grown between the FeCrAl alloy foam and the NiO catalysts, it indicated improved dispersion and stability of the NiO catalysts compared to the other samples. The performance improvement can be explained by optimum thickness of $Al_2O_3$ inter-layer resulting from the role of a passivation layer.
The catalytic activities of nickel-based catalysts were estimated for oxidizing acetaldehyde of VOCs exhausted from industrial facilities. The catalysts were prepared by sol-gel methods of SiO2 and SiO2-TiO2 as a xerogel followed by impregnating Al2O3 powder with the nickel nitrate precursor. The crystalline structure and catalytic properties for the catalysts were investigated by use of BET surface area, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Xray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and temperature programmed reduction (TPR) techniques. These results show that nickel oxide is transformed to NiAl2O4 spinel structure at the calcination temperature of 400 °C in response to the steps with after- and co-impregnation of Al2O3 powder in sol-gel process. The NiAl2O4 could suppress the oxidation reaction of acetaldehyde by catalysts. The NiO is better dispersed on SiO2-TiO2/Al2O3 support than SiO2/Al2O3 and SiO2-TiO2-Al2O3 supports. From the testing results of catalytic activities for oxidation of acetaldehyde, Catalysts showed a big difference in conversion efficiencies with the way of the preparation of catalysts and the loading weight of nickel. The catalyst of 8 wt.% Ni/TiO2-SiO2/Al2O3 showed the best conversion efficiency on acetaldehyde oxidation with 100% conversion efficiency at 350 °C.

$TiO_2$-Ni inverse catalysts were prepared using atomic layer deposition (ALD) process and catalytic $CO_2$ reforming of methane (CRM) reaction over catalysts (either bare Ni or $TiO_2$ coated-Ni particles) were performed using a continuous flow reactor at $800^{\circ}C$. $TiO_2$-Ni inverse catalyst showed higher catalytic reactivity at initial stage of CRM reactions at $800^{\circ}C$ comparing to bare Ni catalysts. Moreover, catalytic activity of $TiO_2$/Ni catalyst was kept high during 13 hrs of the CRM reactions at $800^{\circ}C$, whereas deactivation of bare Ni surface was started within 1hr under same conditions. The results of surface analysis using SEM, XPS, and Raman showed that deposition of graphitic carbon was effectively suppressed in a presence of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles on Ni surface, thereby improving catalytic reactivity and stability of $TiO_2$/Ni catalytic systems. We suggest that utilizing decoration effect of metal catalyst with oxide nanoaprticles is of great potential to develop metal-based catalysts with high stability and reactivity.

$Ni-La_2O_3-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalysts with various $La_2O_3$ loading were investigated for hydrogen production from steam reforming of methane (SRM). The $La_2O_3$ loading influenced the physicochemical properties of $Ni-La_2O_3-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalysts such as BET surface area, Ni dispersion, Ni size and reducibility. Among the prepared catalysts, $Ni-70La_2O_3-Ce_{0.8}Zr_{0.2}O_2$ catalyst showed the highest activity and stability at a very high gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of $932,556h^{-1}$. This is mainly due to high Ni dispersion, small Ni size and high reducibility.

In this study the effects of adding alkaline-earth (IIA) metal oxides to NiZr-loaded Zeolite Y catalysts were investigated on hydrogen rich production by ethanol steam reforming (ESR). Four kinds of alkaline-earth metal (Mg, Ca, Sr, or Ba) oxides of 3.0% by weight were loaded between the $Ni_6Zr_4O_{14}$ main catalytic species and the microporous Zeolite Y support. The characterizations of these catalysts were examined by XRD, TEM, $H_2$-TPR, $NH_3$-TPD, and XPS. Catalytic performances during ESR were found to depend on the basicity of the added alkaline-earth metal oxides and $H_2$ production and ethanol conversion were maximized to 82% and 98% respectively in 27($Ni_6Zr_4O_{14}$)3MgO/70Zeolite Y catalyst at $600^{\circ}C$. Many carbon deposits and carbon nano fibers were seen on the surface of $30Ni_6Zr_4O_{14}$/70Zeolite Y catalyst but lesser amounts were observed on alkaline-earth metal oxide-loaded 27($Ni_6Zr_4O_{14}$)3MO/70Zeolite Y catalysts in TEM photos after ESR. This study demonstrates that hydrogen yields from ESR are closely related to the acidities of catalysts and that alkaline-earth metal oxides reduce the acidities of 27($Ni_6Zr_4O_{14}$)3MO/70Zeolite Y catalysts and promote hydrogen evolution by preventing progression to hydrocarbons.
The catalysts for decomposition reaction of acetaldehyde were investigated. The catalysts were prepared with transition metal Ni, Mo, Al on ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support by impregnation method. Physio-chemical properties of catalysts were characterized by SEM-EDS, XRD, XPS, BET and TPR techniques. The conversion efficiency of catalysts for acetaldehyde was measured in the temperature range of $150{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ by GC through the micro reactor system. The 8 wt% $Ni/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ was found to be the most active catalyst of mono-metal catalysts tested, and the 1-3 wt% $Ni-Al/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ showed higher conversion efficiency than other bimetallic catalysts.
