A study on the magnetoresistive characteristics of ${[Ni/Fe/Cu]}_{20}$ multilayers (${[Ni/Fe/Cu]}_{20}$ 다층 박막의 자기저항 특성에 관한 연구)

  • [Ni/Fe/Cu] and [Fe/Ni/Fe/Cu] multilayers were prepared with three gun rf-magnetron sputtering, and dependence of magnetoresistance on the Ni IFe thickness ratio was investigated. Vaccum annealing was tried to invetigated the effect of annealing. Oscillation of magnetoresistance on the Cu spacer thickness was dbserved in these two kinds of multilayers. When the thickness of Fe inserted into the Ni/Cu interface was about $3\;\AA$. the maximum value of magnetoresistance(13 %) could be observed. In a sample of $1~2\;\AA$ Fe thickness, saturation field decreased significantly, while magnetoresistace decreased slightly in comparison with the sample of $3\;\AA$ Fe. In ${[Cu(23\;\AA)/Fe(1\;\AA)/Ni(18\;\AA)/Fe(1\;\AA)]}_{20}/Fe(80\;\AA)/Si$, 6 % magnetoresistance with 100 Oe saturation field could be obtained. No appreciable change in magnetoresistance and saturation field could be observed by low temperature annealing. Formation of Ni-Fe alloy was not confinred.

Electrochemical Properties of Zr0.8Ti0.2Mn0.4V0.6Ni1-xFex Alloy Electrodes (Zr0.8Ti0.2Mn0.4V0.6Ni1-xFex 합금 전극의 전기화학적 특성)

  • A series of multicomponent $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{1-x}Fe_{x}$ (x=0.00, 0.08, 0.15, 0.22, and 0.30) alloys are prepared and their oystal structure and P-C-T curves are examined. The electrochemical properties of these allqys such as activation conditions, discharge capacity, cycling performance are also investigated. $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{1-x}Fe_{x}$ (x=0.00, 0.08, 0.15, 0.22 and 0.30) have the C14 Laves phase hexagonal structure. The electrode was activated by the hot-charging treatment. The best activation conditions were the current density 120 mA/g and the hot-charging time 12h at $80^{\circ}C$ in the case of the alloy with x=0.00. The discharge capacity increased rapidly until the fourth cycle and then decreased. The discharge capacity increased again from the 13th cycle, arriving at 234 mAh/g at the 50th cycle. The discharge capacily just after activation decreases with the increase in the amount of the substituted Fe but the cycling performance is improved. The discharge capacity after activation of the alloy with x=0.00 is 157 mAh/g at the current density 120 mA/g. $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.85}Fe_{0.15}$ is a good composition with a medium quantity of discharge capacities and a good cycling performance. The ICP analysis of the electrolyte for these electrodes after 50 charge-discharge cycles shows that the concentrations of V and Zr are relatively high. Another series of multicomponent $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.85}M_{0.15}$ (M = Fe, Co, Cu, Mo and Al) alloys are prepared. They also have the C14 Laves phase hexagonal structure. The alloys with M = Co and Fe have relatively larger hydrogen storage capacities. The discharge capacities just after activation are relatively large in the case of the alloys with M = Al and Cu. They are 212 and 170 mAh/g, respectivety, at the current density 120mA/g. The $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.85}Co_{0.15}$ alloy is the best one with a relatively large discharge capacity and a good cycling performance.

  • The temperature dependence of DC magnetic susceptibilities of three austenitic Fe-Cr-Ni stainless alloys were measured in the temperature range of 4.2 and 300 K. Two alloys support a general magnetic description of austen-itic stsinless steels in terms of a two-magnetic-phase (spin glass + superparamagnetic cluster) model and one alloy shows magnetic double transition phenomena. Also this study shows that incressing the Ni/Cr ratio in Fe-Cr-Ni alloys causes a increase of the DC susceptibility peak value and a decrease of the magnetic transition temperature.

  • The magnetoresistance and the saturation field behavior of the Co-Ag nano granular films as a function of the composition and the ferromagnetic underlayer and overlayermaterials were investigated. The maximum magnetoresistance of 23% and the saturation field of 2.3 kOe at room temperature were obtained in the as-deposited 3000$\AA$ $Co_{30}Ag_{70}$ single alloy films. The magnetoresistance and the saturation field of 100$\AA$ $Co_{30}Ag-{70}$ alloy film were 3.65 % and 3.0 kOe respectively. Those of the sandwiched films with 200$\AA$ Fe were 3.3 % and 1.23 kOe respectively. The saturation field of the sandwiched alloy films could be reduced by the exchange coupling between the ferromagnetic layers and the alloy layer. The effective depth of the exchange coupling was approximately 150$\AA$ in each Fe layer. Among the Fe, Co, and FeNi, the most effective materials to reduce the saturation field of the sandwiched alloy films was Fe.

  • Cr 함량이 alloy 600과 alloy 690의 Cr함량 사이에 위치하는 Ni-Cr-Fe 합금을 진공유도 용해법을 이용하여 제조하였다. 합금 인고트에 대하여 열간 가공성 시험을 수행하여 열간 압연 조건을 구하였다. 열간 및 냉간 압연을 거친 시편을 900~120$0^{\circ}C$ 사이의 여러 온도에서 소둔 열처리하였고, 열처리한 시편에 대하여 기계적 특성과 부식특성을 측정, 분석하였다. Cr 함량은 기계적 강도에는 다소 영향을 미치는 것이 발견되었으나 연신율에는 거의 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 부식속도는 Cr 함량 변화보다 소둔 열처리 온도에 따라 증가하였으며, 110$0^{\circ}C$ 에서 열처리한 경우에는 부식속도가 얼마간 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • Precipitation characteristics of the Fe-36Ni based high strength Invar alloy for power transmission wire was investigated in this study. High strength can be obtained in this alloy through solution hardening, precipitation hardening and strain hardening by cold working. In the present study, ingots of Fe-36Ni based Invar alloys with the contents of C, Mo and V varied. Microstructure observations by OM, SEM, and TEM were carried out to validate the simulation results. BCC phase and $FeNi_3$ phase are also expected at lower temperatures below $500^{\circ}C$. Aging treatments were carried out at temperatures ranging from 400 to $900^{\circ}C$ for time intervals from 3 min to 100hrs. Peak aging condition was obtained as $400^{\circ}C$ and 1 hr. With temperature increased, peak strength was decreased abruptly. Microstructure observation was conducted by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy.

Effect of Thermo-mechanical Treatment on the Tensile Properties of Fe-20Mn-12Cr-3Ni-3Si Damping Alloy (Fe-20Mn-12Cr-3Ni-3Si 합금의 인장성질에 미치는 가공열처리의 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of thermo-mechanical treatment on the tensile properties of Fe-20Mn-12Cr-3Ni-3Si alloy with deformation induced martensite transformation. ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ and ${\varepsilon}$-martensite, dislocation, stacking fault were formed, and grain size was refined by thermo-mechanical treatment. With the increasing cycle number of thermo-mechanical treatment, volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$ and ${\alpha}^{\prime}$-martensite, dislocation, stacking fault were increased, and grain size decreased. In 5-cycle number thermo-mechanical treated specimens, more than 10% of the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$-martensite and less than 3% of the volume fraction of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$-martensite were attained. Tensile strength was increased and elongation was decreased with the increasing cycle number of thermo-mechanical treatment. Tensile properties of thermo-mechanical treated alloy with deformation induced martensite transformation was affected to formation of martensite by thermo-mechanical treatment, but was large affected to increasing of dislocation and grain refining.

New Co10Fe10Mn35Ni35Zn10 high-entropy alloy Fabricated by Powder Metallurgy (분말야금법으로 제조한 새로운 Co10Fe10Mn35Ni35Zn10 고엔트로피 합금)

  • In this paper, a new $Co_{10}Fe_{10}Mn_{35}Ni_{35}Zn_{10}$ high entropy alloy (HEA) is identified as a strong candidate for the single face-centered cubic (FCC) structure screened using the upgraded TCFE2000 thermodynamic CALPHAD database. The $Co_{10}Fe_{10}Mn_{35}Ni_{35}Zn_{10}$ HEA is fabricated using the mechanical (MA) procedure and pressure-less sintering method. The $Co_{10}Fe_{10}Mn_{35}Ni_{35}Zn_{10}$ HEA, which consists of elements with a large difference in melting point and atomic size, is successfully fabricated using powder metallurgy techniques. The MA behavior, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the $Co_{10}Fe_{10}Mn_{35}Ni_{35}Zn_{10}$ HEA are systematically studied to understand the MA behavior and develop advanced techniques for fabricating HEA products. After MA, a single FCC phase is found. After sintering at $900^{\circ}C$, the microstructure has an FCC single phase with an average grain size of $18{\mu}m$. Finally, the $Co_{10}Fe_{10}Mn_{35}Ni_{35}Zn_{10}$ HEA has a compressive yield strength of 302 MPa.

Effect of Fe7W6 Phase (μ-phase) on Mechanical Properties of W-Ni-Fe Heavy Alloy (W-Ni-Fe 중합금의 기계적 특성에 미치는 Fe7W6상(μ-phase)의 영향)

  • W-Ni-Fe heavy alloys have been used in various fields, such as kinetic energy penetrators and radiation shielding materials, due to their high density and good mechanical properties. In this study, the sintering of W-Ni-Fe alloys with various Ni/Fe ratios was demonstrated to improve the mechanical properties and penetration capabilities of heavy alloys by formation of interfacial phase. The microstructural changes and the mechanical properties of the W-Ni-Fe alloys after liquid-phase sintering were investigated. The Vickers hardness and tensile strength of the 95W1.3Ni3.7Fe sample, which had coated W grains by $Fe_7W_6$ phase (${\mu}$-phase), were 450 Hv and 1560 MPa, respectively. As a result, enhancement of the mechanical properties was considered to have uniformly generated ${\mu}$-phase around W grains.

  • This study investigated the effect of wire diameter and applied voltage on the fabrication of Ni-free Fe-based alloy nano powders by employing the PWE (pulsed wire evaporation) in liquid, for high temperature oxidation-resistant metallic porous body for high temperature particulate matter (or soot) filter system. Three different diameter (0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 mm) of alloy wire and various applied voltages from 0.5 to 3.0 kV were main variables in PWE process, while X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning microscope (FE-SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to investigate the characteristics of the Fe-Cr-Al nano powders. It was controlled the number of explosion events, since evaporated and condensed nano-particles were coalesced to micron-sized secondary particles, when exceeded to the specific number of explosion events, which were not suitable for metallic porous body preparation. As the diameter of alloy wire increased, the voltage for electrical explosion increased and the size of primary particle decreased.
