  • The battery charger for high speed trail car is very important power source for the purpose of safety and system stability It provides control power of VVVF, CVCF, DC/DC converter and inverter for traction motor. This paper included power circuit of the ZVZCS type battery charger for high speed trail car and battery charging algorithm. Also the optimum parallel operation of 50kW battery charger for high speed trail car, and charring control method of Ni-Cd battery illustrates validity and effectiveness through the experiments.

  • In this paper, a high speed charging algorithm that charges Ni-Cd secondary pack battery within 40 minutes is implementation. Proposed algorithm is that suppling 4 stage pulse instead of constant voltage or current. That makes charge time short, temperature low, and extends battery life. Experimental results show that secondary pack battery is charged within 40 minutes and achieved life time about 2000 cycle.

  • Battery of rolling stock is a very important device as power supply at starting and emergency control. This paper analyzes the quality of Ni-Cd battery by means of performance test. Ni-Cd battery have suitable and stable properties. That is very stable to discharge on low temperature state and very easy to manage and repair. This paper confirm the performance and property of Ni-Cd battery on low temperature environment by the performance test and estimate the life-cycle of Ni-Cd battery on board at rolling-stock by the life-test and the using-test.

  • In order to use railway system standby power, produced 160Ah NiMH battery that would be able to substitute the lead acid battery or NiCd battery form which contain the toxic material in environment, using parallel connected 80Ah NiMH battery. And in order to develop proper electrode in the 160Ah NiMH battery, tested high rate discharge performance of the ternary electrolyte. 160Ah NiMH battery evaluated the various test in order to use railway system standby power.

  • Consumption of nickel is continuously increasing and the wastes of secondary battery, ferrite and catalyst containing Ni are also generated periodically. Among those wastes, the aim of this research is the recovery of nickel from used Ni-Cd recharge battery. Battery consisted of Ni 24 wt%, Fe 30 wt% and Cd 18.5 wt%. Metal was recovered by solvent extraction after leaching. Cadmium was leached completely in 1N-HCl and Ni was recovered above 70%. 30 vol% MSP-8 separated Cd and Ni completely from acidic leaching solution. In addition $NH_4NO_3$ as one of ammonium salt type leachants showed an excellent leaching selectivity to Ni and Cd. Ni in leached solution was recovered completely by LIX-extractant and more than 70% of Cd in raffinate was by D2EHPA.

  • For this study, a 160Ah Ni-MH battery is produced with parallel arranged two 80Ah Ni-MH batteries as an unit, in order to start diesel generator(engine) in place of Lead Acid battery or Ni-cd battery which contain indicated toxic pollutant of Environmental pollution, by high capacity Ni-MH battery. And the ternary electrolyte recipe is requested to develop proper electrodes of the 160Ah Ni-MH battery, and then the 160Ah battery can be tested at high rate discharging performance. Zn is added to negative electrode for the improvement of performance. 160Ah Ni-MH battery has been tested in various experiments for diesel engine starting. As the result, diesel engine starting is found successfully.

  • 안전등급 Ni-Cd 축전지는 품질수명이 15-25년으로 환경시험 등을 통하여 입증되었지만, 설치후 7년이 경과한 한국 원자력 연구소 방사성 폐기물 처리시설의 안전등급 Ni-Cd 축전지는 1992년에 실시한 최초의 용량시험 결과 기준용량에 미달하였다. 안전등급 Ni-Cd 축전지와 관련된 각종 유지보수 기술을 조사하고, 용량복구를 위한 증류수와 전해질 성분의 적절한 보충, 충전과 방전 특성의 적용, 활성제 보충, 전극의 청소를 통하여 매년 성능이 회복되어서 1995년도 용량시험시에는 기준용량을 초과하였으므로 안전등급 Ni-Cd 축전지의 용량 문제해결 사례로 소개한다.

  • Deep-sea Manganese nodules was treated with reduction-smelting process with adding the spent Ni-Cd battery or the cobalt contained spent catalyst for recovery of nickel and cobalt metals. The nickel in the spent Ni-Cd battery could be recovered by adding $5\%$ coke as a reducing agent regardless of the amount of battery added. However, to recover cobalt from the spent catalyst, it is require to add more coke for reduction of cobalt oxide in the catalyst. The treatment of metal wastes with manganese nodules can contribute to lower the cost for the processing of nodules and to facilitate the recycling of metal wastes.
