  • Treating bulk superalloy scrap with molten zinc has been studled to facililate recycling and recovery- of cobalt.Superalloys investigated were the cobalt-base Mar-M-509 and X45 and the nickel-base Rene 80. Charges withZnlscrap ratlos of 1.5-6.5 were heated to 750-9002 far 1-7.5 hours in a nitrogen atmosphere. The moltenzinc dissolved superalloy scrap and zinc was removed by vacuum distillation at 850-Wk for 4-6 hours. Ithas been concluded that the optimum conditions of decomposition for Mar-M-509 and Rene 80 \"ere dissolutiontemperature of about 850k, Znlscrap ratlo of about 5, and dissalution time of about 5.5 hours. The zinc-treatedsuperalloy prouducts were friable and reacted rapidly with acid solutions. Leaching 9mm pieces of unalloyedMar-M-509 or Rene 80 with 5 times the stolchlometric amount oi 6N HCI at 90t ior 3 hours dissolved about1.5-7.270, while leachmg of the minus 20-mesh products dissolved about 89.0-93.0%.ved about 89.0-93.0%.

  • Corrosion behaviors of Incoloy 800H, KSA(Kaeri Superalloy)-6, Inconel 600 and Hastelloy C-276 in molten salts were investigated in the temperature range of 650 ~ $850^{\circ}C$. Due to $\textrm{Li}_{2}\textrm{O}$-induced basic fluxing mechanism, the corrosion rates of the alloys in mixed molten salt of LiC1-$\textrm{Li}_{2}\textrm{O}$ were significantly higher than those in molten salt of LiCl. In the mixed molten salt, Fe-base alloys showed higher corrosion resistance than the Ni-base alloys. and Hastelloy C-276 with high Mo and W contents exhibited the highest corrosion rate among the examined alloys. The single layer of $\textrm{LiCrO}_{2}$ was formed in molten salt of LiCl and two phase structure of a scale consisted of oxides and Ni was formed in the mixed molten salt.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of bonding temperature and heating rate on transient liquid phase diffusion bonding of Ni-base superalloy. The heating rate was varied by $0.1^{\circ}C$/sec, $1^{\circ}C$/sec, $10^{\circ}C$/sec to the bonding temperatures $1100^{\circ}C,\;1150^{\circ}C,\;1200^{\circ}C$ under vacuum. As bonding temperature increased, maximum dissolution width of base metal increased, but a dissolution finishing time decreased. The eutectic width of insert metal in the bonded interlayer decreased linearly in proportion to the square root of holding time during isothermal solidification stage. The bonding temperature was raised, isothermal solidification rate slightly increased. As the heating rate decreased and the bonding temperature increased, the completion time of dissolution after reaching bonding temperature decreased. When the heating rate was very slow, the solidification proceeded before reaching bonding temperature and the time required for the completion of isothermal solidification became reduced.
