In this study, surface analysis of Ni-Cr and Co-Cr alloys with addition of Ti and Mo for dental CAD/CAM use has been researched experimentally. The surface characteristics of the alloys were examined by Vickers hardness test, bonding strength test, surface roughness test, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. The shrinkage of the sintered Ni-Cr alloy alloy was slightly larger than that of Ni-Cr-Ti alloy, and larger than Co-Cr alloy. Also, the addition of Mo showed a tendency to decrease shrinkage somewhat. From the result of XRD analysis, NiCr, $Ni_3Cr$ and $Ni_3Ti$ were observed in the sintered Ni-13Cr-xTi and Ni-13Cr-xMo alloys. In addition, ${\sigma}-CrCo$, $Co_2Mo_3$ and $TiCo_2$ were formed in the sintered Co-Cr-xTi and Co-Cr-xMo alloys. Surface hardness of Ti and Mo added alloy was higher than those of Ni-Cr and Co-Cr alloy. The bond strength between sintered alloy and porcelain was $16.1kgf/mm^2$ for Ni-13Cr alloy, $17.8kgf/mm^2$ for Ni-13Cr-5Ti alloy, and $8.2kgf/mm^2$ for Ni-13Cr-10Ti alloy, respectively.
The adhesive mechanisms on the metal-ceramic restorations have been reported to be mechanical interlocking, chemical bonding, compressive force, and Van der Waal's force, etc. Of these, the mechanical interlocking and chemical bonding forces are thought to affect the adhesive force between Ni-Cr alloy and porcelain. This study investigates the adhesion of Ni-Cr alloy to porcelain according to surface treatment. For this purpose, the following experiments were made; The compositions of Ni-Cr alloy as cast by emission spectrograph, and the oxides produced on Ni-Cr alloy during degassing at $1850^{\circ}F$ for 30 minutes in air and in vacuum were analyzed by X-ray diffractograph. The metal phases of Ni-Cr alloy were observed according to porcelain-baking cyclic heat treatment by photo microscope and the distribution and the shift of elements of Ni-Cr alloy and porcelain and the failure phases between Ni-Cr alloy and porcelain by scanning electron microscope. The adhesive force between Ni-Cr alloy and porcelain was measured according to surface treatment with oxidization and roughening by Instron Universal Testing Machine. Results were as follows; 1. The metal phases of Ni-Cr alloy as cast and degassing state showed the enlarged and fused core, but when subjected to porcelain-baking cyclic heat treatment, showed a dendrite growing. 2. The kinds of metal oxides produced on Ni-Cr alloy during degassing were found to be NiO and $Cr_2O_3$. 3. The distribution of elements at the interface of Ni-Cr alloy and porcelain in degassing state showed demarcation line, but in roughening state, showed mechanical interlocking phase. 4. The shift of elements at the interface occurred in both states, but the shift amount was found to be larger in roughening than in degassing. 5. The adhesive force between Ni-Cr alloy and porcelain was found to be $3.45{\pm}0.93kg/mm^2$, in degassing and $3.82{\pm}0.99kg/mm^2$, in roughening. 6. The failure phase between Ni-Cr alloy and porcelain showed the mixed type failure.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tensile strength of solder joint between gold alloy and nickel-chromium alloy. The specimens were made with type III gold alloys and Ni-Cr-Be alloy and Degular Lot 2 solder. Eighteen paired specimens were made, and subdivided into three groups. Group I specimens were gold alloy-gold alloy combination, Group II specimens were gold alloy-Ni-Cr alloy combination, Group III specimens were Ni-Cr alloy-Ni-Cr alloy combination. Solder block were made with solder investment(Degussa A,G, Germany) and stored in room temperature for 24 hours. To reduce the formation of metallic oxide and increase wetting properties, flux was used before preheating and soldering procedure. The specimens were preheated at $650^{\circ}C$ and flux were applied again and gas-oxygen torch was used to solder the specimen. All soldered specimens were subjected to a tensile force in the Instron universal testing machine : the crosshead speed was 1 mm/mim. Tensile strength values of three soldered joint groups were 1. Gold alloy-Gold alloy solder joint : $$48.8kg/mm^2$$ 2. Gold alloy-Ni-Cr alloy solder joint : $$30.9kg/mm^2$$ 3. Ni-Cr alloy-Ni-Cr alloy solder joint : $$31.8kg/mm^2$$ The microscopic examination of fracture site showed cohesive and combination fracture modes in gold alloy specimens, but showed all adhesive fracture modes in Ni-Cr alloy containing specimens.
The present study evaluated the microstructures and mechanical properties of severely deformed Ni-30Cr alloys. Cross-roll rolling (CRR) process was introduced as a severe plastic deformation (SPD), and Ni-30Cr alloy sheets were cold rolled to 90% thickness reduction and subsequently annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ for 30 min to obtain the recrystallized microstructure. Electron back-scattering diffraction (EBSD) was introduced to analyze grain boundary character distributions (GBCDs). The application of CRR to the Ni-30Cr alloy was effective in enhancing the grain refinement through heat treatment; consequently, the average grain size was significantly refined from $33{\mu}m$ in the initial material to $0.6{\mu}m$. This grain refinement directly improved the mechanical properties, in which yield and tensile strengths significantly increased relative to those of the initial material. We systematically discuss the grain refinement and accompanying improvement of the mechanical properties, in terms of the effective strain imposed by CRR relative to conventional rolling (CR).
The composition and semiconducting properties of the passive films formed on Ni- (15, 30)Cr-5Mo alloys in pH 8.5 buffer solution were examined. The depth concentration profile of passive films formed on Ni-(15, 30)Cr-5Mo in pH 8.5 buffer solution showed that Mo enhances the enrichment of Cr. The Mott-Schottky plot for the passive film on Ni-(15, 30)Cr- 5Mo closely resembled that for the film on Cr, whereas those for the less Cr-enriched film on Mo-free alloys showed similar behavior to that for the film on Ni. The acceptor density was reduced by increasing Cr content in Ni-(15, 30)Cr-(0, 5)Mo alloys, but addition of Mo considerably increased the acceptor density.

The influences of vanadium addition on the cavitation erosion resistance pf Fe-Cr-Ni-Si-C hardfacing alloy were investigated using a vibratory apparatus up to 30 hrs. It was shown that 1wt.%V additioned alloy improved the resistance to cavitation damage. However, further increase in V content up to 2wt.% reduced the cavitation erosion resistance. It was considered that the addition of V developed the cavitation erosion resistance by reducing the stacking fault energy of Fe-Cr-Ni-Si-C alloy. However, the further increase in V content seemed to reduce the cavitation erosion resistance by increasing the matrix/carbide interfacial area, which was the preferential sites of the cavitation damage.
We evaluated the developed microstructures and mechanical properties of a severely plastically deformed Ni-30Cr alloy. Normal rolling and differential speed rolling were used as deformation processes, and the thicknesses of the specimens were reduced to 68 % of the original thickness after holding at $700^{\circ}C$ for 10 min and annealing at $700^{\circ}C$ for 40 min to obtain a fully recrystallized microstructure. Electron backscattering diffraction was used to analyze the characteristic distribution of the grain boundaries on the deformed and annealed specimens. Differential speed rolling was more effective for refining grains in comparison with normal rolling. The grain size was refined from 33 mm in the initial material to 8.1 mm with normal rolling and 5.5 mm with differential speed rolling. The more refined grain in the differential-speed-rolled material directly resulted in increases in the yield and tensile strengths by 68 % and 9.0%, respectively, compared to normal rolling. We systematically explain the relationship between the grain refinement and mechanical properties through a plastically deformed Ni-30Cr alloy based on the development of a deformation texture. The results of our study show that the DSR process is very effective when used to enhance the mechanical properties of a material through grain refinement.

SA508 Gr.4N Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel, in which Ni and Cr contents are higher than in commercial SA508 Gr.3 Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steels, may be a candidate reactor pressure vessel (RPV) material with higher strength and toughness from its tempered martensitic microstructure. The inner surface of the RPV is weld-cladded with stainless steels to prevent corrosion. The goal of this study is to evaluate the microstructural properties of the clad interface between Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel and stainless weldment, and the effects of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) on the properties. The properties of the clad interface were compared with those of commercial Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel. Multi-layer welding of model alloys with ER308L and ER309L stainless steel by the SAW method was performed, and then PWHT was conducted at $610^{\circ}C$ for 30 h. The microstructural changes of the clad interface were analyzed using OM, SEM and TEM, and micro-Vickers hardness tests were performed. Before PWHT, the heat affected zone (HAZ) showed higher hardness than base and weld metals due to formation of martensite after welding in both steels. In addition, the hardness of the HAZ in Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel was higher than that in Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel due to a comparatively high martensite fraction. The hardness of the HAZ decreased after PWHT in both steels, but the dark region was formed near the fusion line in which the hardness was locally high. In the case of Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel, formation of fine Cr-carbides in the weld region near the fusion line by diffusion of C from the base metal resulted in locally high hardness in the dark region. However, the precipitates of the region in the Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel were similar to that in the base metal, and the hardness in the region was not greatly different from that in the base metal.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare Ni-Cr alloy property of gas-oxygen torch soldering and infrared welding using optical microscope and Electron Probe Micro Analyzer (EPMA). Materials and methods: Ni-Cr alloys were casted for specimens. Specimens had 3.0 mm diameter, 30.0 mm length and were divided into two groups. Each group had 4 specimens. One group was for gas-oxygen torch soldering and the other was infrared welding. Specimens were cut with low-speed disc and soldered each other with gas-oxygen torch and infrared machine. After soldering and polishing, specimens were observed at 3 points (soldering point, 5 mm distance point, 10 mm distance point) with optical microscope and analyzed 3 points (soldering point, 5 mm distance point, 10 mm distance point with EPMA. Results: The results of this study were as follows: 1. The observation of gas-oxygen torch soldering at 10 mm distance point under the optical microscope was not founded any specific surface properties, but some crack lines were observed at 5 mm distance and soldering point. 2. There were no crack lines were founded at the observation of infrared welding at 10 mm distance and 5 mm distance points under the optical microscope. However, at the 5 mm distance, the surface was not smooth enough compared with at 10 mm distance point. Some crack lines were observed at the welding point as well. 3. In the EPMA analysis of the gas-oxygen torch soldering, the component of Ni was increased by 4.5%, Cr was increased by 7.5% than that of the Ni-Cr alloy at the 10.0 mm distance. At the 5 mm distance, the component of Ni was decreased by 6.1%, Mo was increased by 9.0% than that of the Ni-Cr alloy but Cr was equally shown at the 5.0 mm distance. Only Ni was shown at the soldering point. 4. In the EPMA analysis of the infrared welding, the component of Ni was increased by 9.1%, Cr was increased by 0.4% than that of the Ni-Cr alloy but Al was equal at the 10.0 mm distance. At the 5 mm distance, the component of Ni was increased by 4.7%, Cr was increased by 4.7% and Al was increased by 0.1% than that of the Ni-Cr alloy. At the welding point, the component of Ni was increased by 8.8%, Cr was increased by 8.2% than that of the Ni-Cr alloy. Conclusion: From these results, at the 5 mm distance from the soldering point, the surface of the infrared welding was more smoother than that of the gas-oxygen torch soldering. On the EPMA analysis, the component of the specimens with infrared welding was more similar than that of the gas-oxygen torch soldering compared with the component of the Ni-Cr alloy.
