  • Bunker C fuel oil may be taken as a conc. solution of asphalt as a solute. It may be assumpt that there will be unalogical relationship between cone. solution and solute in regological behavior. Investigation was carried out to fiud out the -opitimum preheating temperature. The following results were obtained: the colloidal structure bunker C fuel oil undergoes a transition at around the softening point of the solute asphalt: and the flow charactor changes from non-Newtonian flow to Newtonian as well as its activation energy is memarkably reduced at around softening point of the solute asphalt for the purpose of the improvement of flow charater of Bunker C fuel oil, the preheating must be done above the softening point of a solute asphalt.

  • An experimental investigation is carried out to study 2-phase vertically upward hydraulic transport of solid particles by water and non-Newtonian fluids in a slim hole concentric annulus with rotation of the inner cylinder. Rheology of particulate suspensions in viscoelastic fluids is of importance in many applications such as particle removal from surfaces, transport of proppants in fractured reservoir and cleaning of drilling holes, etc. In this study a clear acrylic pipe was used in order to observe the movement of solid particles. Annular fluid velocities varied from 0.2 m/s to 3.0 m/s. Pressure drops and average flow rate and particle rising velocity are measured. For both water and 0.2% CMC solutions, the higher the concentration of the solid particles is, the larger the pressure gradients become.

  • The main objective of present study is to obtain information for flow characteristics, such as velocity and wall shear stress, of bifurcation in blood vessel. Branch flows for Newtonian fluids are simulated by using Fluent V.6.0. The numerical simulations are carried out for five cases divided by different values of bifurcation angle and area ratio. As a result of simulation, high wall shear stress is appeared at the bifurcated region. As increasing bifurcation angle, pressure drop is increasing. In addition, as the area is decreasing, pressure drop and wall shear stress is increasing.

  • Of concern in the present theoretical investigation is the study of blood flow and convection-dominated diffusion processes in a model bifurcated artery under stenotic conditions. The geometry of the bifurcated arterial segment having constrictions in both the parent and its daughter arterial lumen frequently appearing in the diseased arteries causing malfunction of the cardiovascular system, is constructed mathematically with the introduction of suitable curvatures at the lateral junction and the flow divider. The streaming blood contained in the bifurcated artery is treated to be Newtonian. The flow dynamical analysis applies the two-dimensional unsteady incompressible nonlinear Wavier-Stokes equations for Newtonian fluid while the mass transport phenomenon is governed by the convection diffusion equation. The motion of the arterial wall and its effect on local fluid mechanics is, however, not ruled out from the present model. The main objective of this study is to demonstrate the effects of constricted flow characteristics and the wall motion on the wall shear stress, the concentration profile and on the mass transfer. The ultimate numerical solutions of the coupled flow and diffusion processes following a radial coordinate transformation are based on an appropriate finite difference technique which attain appreciable stability in both the flow phenomena and the convection-dominated diffusion processes.

  • The periodicity of the physiological flow has been the major interest of analytic research in this field up to now Among the mechanical forces stimulating the biochemical reaction of endothelial cells on the wall, the wall shear stresses show the strongest effect to the biochemical product. The objective of present study is to find the effects of velocity waveform on the wall shear stresses and pressure distribution along the artery and to present some correlation of the velocity waveform with the clinical observations. In order to investigate the complex flow phenomena in the bifurcated tube, constitutive equations, which are suitable to describe the rheological properties of the non-Newtonian fluids, are determined, and pulsatile momemtum equations are solved by the finite volume prediction. The results show that pressure and wall shear stresses are related to the velocity waveform of the physiological flow and the blood viscosity. And the variational tendency of the wall shear stresses along the flow direction is very similar to the applied sinusoidal and physiological velocity waveforms, but the stress values are quite different depending on the local region. Under the sinusoidal velocity waveform, a Newtonian fluid and blood show big differences in velocity. pressure, and wall shear stress as a function of time, but the differences under the physiological velocity waveform are negligibly small.

  • This study concerns the characteristics of helical flow in a concentric and eccentric annulus with a diameter ratio of 0.52 and 0.9, whose outer cylinders are stationary and inner ones are rotating. Pressure losses and skin friction coefficients have been measured for fully developed flows of water and $0.2\%$ aqueous of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC), respectively, when the inner cylinder rotates at the speed of $0\~500$ rpm. The effect of rotation on the skin friction coefficient is significantly dependent on the flow regime. In all flow regimes, the skin friction coefficient is increased by the inner cylinder rotation. This study shows the change of skin friction coefficient and wall shear stress corresponding to the variation of rotating speed of the inner cylinder, radius ratio, eccentricity, and working fluids.
