Purpose: This study analyzed how the four nurse-related news items 'talent show,' 'neonatal death,' 'nurse's death,' and 'sexual harassment' were portrayed in Korean daily newspaper articles. Methods: A total of 392 newspaper articles published from November 2017 to May 2018 were retrieved through the internet homepages of three newspapers, the Chosun Ilbo, the Dong-a Ilbo, and the JoongAng Ilbo and through a database for 13 other newspapers. Articles were analyzed for their views on nurses and their structural and contextual frames. Results: Articles with the highest frequency of mentioning nurses' death appeared in the JoongAng Ilbo; these were written as straight news articles. In the analyzed articles, nurses were portrayed mostly as victims, troublemakers, passive, or selfish. Articles were written mostly in episodic, incident notice, or attribution of responsibility frames. Conclusion: It was not uncommon to read articles with negative views on nurses; most of these articles focused only the four major incidents as straight news type stories. Future efforts are needed to study the implications of newspaper articles with negative views on nurses and the frames most commonly used.

In this study, we examine how scientific background is developed in order to raise the systematic strategy of scientific literate person's training, and provide the necessary foundation for the structure of future scientific literate person's training programs. For this purpose, we analyzed newspaper articles at the expert workshop of science education, discussed the true nature of scientific literate person, and derived the mechanism of manifesting scientific background. The derived mechanism was ranked in the order of understanding, empathy, execution, and sympathy. Using the presented stages and the parameters of stage transition, it is possible to construct an educational program and train the actual scientific literate person through science education when it is applied to school sites.

During the pandemic period, when non-face-to-face education became commonplace, the discourse on digital education increased rapidly. And this is reflected in education policy. This is because most policies are influenced by public discourse. Therefore, this study analyzed influential newspaper articles to analyze public discourse on digital education. The results are as follows. First, in 2020, when COVID-19 peaked, the discourse on digital education surged, which originated from the need for efficient management of learning and students in non-face-to-face education situations. Second, the discourse discussed the problem of digital competency mainly about the problem of acquiring new skills and dealt with it most importantly. Third, the discourse of digital education was dominated by discourse from the current perspective. However, it is necessary to consider the perspective of what capabilities are needed for a future society. This is just because acquiring new technologies or cultivating functions cannot be seen as the whole of digital literacy. Therefore, it is necessary to revitalize the discussion on what digital competencies are needed in the future society and reflect them in education policies.

The purpose of this study is to improve the writing skills through activities to read and summarize the internet children newspaper article. The subjects of study are the college students of A2-B1 level in the French writing classes. The range of study was as follows: - As the previous activity of writing, activities of teaching and learning of vocabularies to comprehend the internet children newspaper article. - learn about the rules of summary - writing the summary The children's newspaper used in this study has the advantage that can increase the learning motivation of learners as having a topicality by itself and a level of easy language. The summary activities can be called a comprehensive activities of teaching and learning that combine the critical reading ability that can distinguish important information and secondary one with the creative writing ablility that can reconstruct one's own style from the selected content. In addition, the summary assists the understanding of a text and is a help to its memory. It is the strategy of reading comprehension and also is simultaneously the strategy of writing that can write with one's own vocabulary by newly structuring the text. The results of this study will provide a vitality for the education environment and field of study of French language that have been neglected the writing ability. Moreover it will be the motivation to propose a way of a balanced French language communication to our French language learners weighted on oral communication.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the sole of local newspaper for community development in Korea. Specific objectives of the study were : 1) to identify the role of local newspaper in community development, 2) to analyze problems and situations on local newspapers in Korea, and 3) to suggest desirable roles of local newspaper for the community development. To attain the above objectives, this study was carried out through literature review, contest analysis of selected local newspapers, and the questionnaire survey of selected readers of local newspaper. The data were collected from 267 readers of local newspaper who participated in the farmers` training session in the Rural Development Administration, by using questionnaires developed by the researcher, and total of 263 questionnaires were analyzed. The statistical techniques used for the study were frequence, percentile, standard deviation utilizing the $SPSS/PC^+$. The major findings of the study were as follows : 1. The major roles of functions of local newspapers identified in this study were summarized as to reinforce the community consciousness, to form community opinion, to watch and to monitor community environment, to provide education and entertainment, and to contribute to the conveyance and promotion of community culture. 2. The general characteristic of local newspaper readers surveyed were; a) average distance from town to their village was 9.3 Km, b) average age was 29 years, c) about 75% of them were senior high school graduates, and d) about 96% of them participated in group activities. 3. About 45% of the respondents used television or radio for their moor sources of local news were TV or radio, while about 31% respondents used immunity newspaper for their moor sources of local news. About 67% of the respondents kept their readership over two years, and about 40% of them read community newspaper regularly at their home. 4. The results of content analysis showed drat the local newspapers were dealing with articles on cultural affairs, community consciousness, administrative and civic affairs, however, there were not enough educational news, and various kinds of general news in the community. 5. Survey also showed the most needed news were ; 1) political news including administrative and civic affairs, 2) economic news including sales and distribution, 3) social news including social problems on environmental pollution and community development works, 4) educational news including technology and information, 5) cultural news including guide to cultural and historical sites and local brief news. 6. In the evaluation of local newspaper, the readers were generally positive in valued roles of local newspaper in community relations, community development, promoting community cohesion and understanding of community members, and about 40% of the respondents were positive in predicting the bright future perspectives of local newspapers. 7. In the readers` evaluation of local newspaper, readers responded that local newspapers were very closely related to the community and residents, reflecting the current concerns of local population and recognizing the value of community media, and the contents of local newspaper were positively related to daily lives of community residents and opinions of overall community.

The purpose of this study was to explore, using topic modeling, the social value of doctors and medicine demanded by society as reflected in published newspaper articles in Korea. Ultimately, this study aimed to reflect social needs in the process of developing the Patient-Centered Doctor's Competency Framework in Korea. For this purpose, a total of 2,068 newspaper articles published from 2016 to 2020 were analyzed. Through topic modeling of these newspaper articles over the past 5 years, 18 topics were derived and divided into four categories. Focusing on the derived topics and keywords, the topics derived in specific years and the proportion of topics by year were analyzed. The results of this study make it possible to grasp the needs of society projected through the press for doctors and medicine. Due to the nature of the press, topics that frequently appeared in newspaper articles were mainly social phenomena related to requirements for doctors, particularly dealing with economic and legal aspects. In particular, it was confirmed that doctors are now required to have a wider range of competencies that go beyond their required medical knowledge and clinical skills. This study helped to establish doctor's competencies by analyzing social needs for doctors through the latest research methods, and the findings could help to establish and improve doctor's competencies through ongoing research in the future.

This study was intended to help children to cultivate and develop a sound attitude toward food consumption and eating habits through the analysis of food and nutritional information in news articles and advertisements in three major daily children's newspapers in Korea: The Chosen Children's Daily Newspaper, The Hankook Children's Daily Newspaper, and The Donga Children's Daily Newspaper. The monitoring period was for twelve months, January to December 2003. Two hundred seventy-nine articles and three hundred thirty-five advertisements were analyzed. The results were as follows. 'Cooking and health' were the most frequent subject in food and nutrition articles. The articles' contents are evaluated positively in morality and explanation; but negatively in fairness, specialization, and objectiveness. The articles were insufficient in the explanation of professional terms, scientific bases, and practical measures for real life. It therefore seems that they were difficult for children to understand well. The most frequent themes in the advertisements were 'processed fats and sugars' such as chocolate, candies, and cookies. Frequently, they were exaggerated and accompanied by phrases promoting consumption. They did not provide sufficient well-grounded information, and focused too much on events or gifts to instigate consumer sentiment. In conclusion, the most serious problem was that most food and nutrition information in these children's newspapers was lacking in specialization. More specialized and objective information should be provided in order to enhance the educational value of children's newspapers and their utilization in school education programs. Continuous monitoring should be carried out to discover those news articles and advertisements that contain correct food and nutrition information.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze media companies' editorial viewpoints regarding environmental issues. Not only do newspaper editorials provide a variety of environmental information, but also they make it possible for the public to form an opinion and to establish communication channels regarding environmental issues. With this in mind, this paper analyzes the changes in environmental reporting over the past two decades. The newspaper companies started writing more frequently about the environment from early 1980s. To show this, I analyzed environmental articles written in the six main news-paper companies: Chosun, Donga, Hangerae, Kyunghyang, Hankook, and Munwha from 1999 to 2004. For this study, the articles have been complied by using the Korean Integrated News Database System (KINDS). Also the data has been sorted according to year, subject, and ty the company of origin. The total number of the environmental articles posted on these six daily newspapers from 1999 to 2004 is 729 and these represent 2.59% of the total articles. Hankook-Ilbo was the company that handled the most of environmental articles followed by Hangerae, Munwha, Kyunghwang, Chosun, and Donga. The major topics of discussion were environmental development and water quality issues. The number of the environmental related articles increased in 1999 and 2000, but then decreased from 2001 to 2003. Again the number increased in 2004. Interestingly while the number of articles covering the environment increased from the 1980s and into the 1990s, the number of articles decreased from 1999 to 2004 as the post-IMF period seems to have suppressed interest in the ecological issues despite the economic growth that followed. With the change in media coverage people have begun to recognize environmental issues as having social impact. As a result the people have begun to take such issues more seriously and take more active role in effecting environmental policy. Thus it is important that the media presents it's stories in an object manner to insure that the public is properly informed.

This study analyzed the effects of the NIE (Newspaper in Education) learning method on the financial education of college students, focusing on how financial literacy impacts financial management behavior. For this purpose, college students enrolled in finance courses were divided into two groups: the experimental group, which participated in the NIE program, and the control group, which did not. After implementing the NIE program, independent sample t-tests and multiple regression analyses were conducted. The results of the study are as follows: First, in terms of sub-elements of financial literacy, the financial attitude in the experimental group was higher than in the control group. Second, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of financial knowledge and behavior. Third, in the experimental group, financial knowledge had a significant positive effect on financial management behavior. The results of this study confirmed that the NIE learning method is considerably effective in financial education, which is essential for college students to fulfill their role as economic agents leading sound financial lives.

This study explores the attributes of local readers based on a discriminant analysis. Local readers are divided into three groups national newspaper reader, local newspaper reader, and national & local newspaper reader. A nationwide telephone survey was conducted in june, 2004 and gathered 2,063 cases. News subject and advertising appeared to play less important role in distinguishing among the three group examined. The most powerful discriminating variables were residence area and period of residence area. Education, interest of capital city news, job were found to be moderately important variables on Function 1, which distinguished between local newspaper reader and national & local newspaper reader. Generally, local newspaper reader showed higher interest on capital area news and lower interest on metropolitan area news. However, the result of a discriminant analysis indicated local newspaper reader was distinguished from national newspaper reader in terms of higher interest of metropolitan area news. Simultaneously, local newspaper reader was distinguished from national & local newspaper in terms of lower interest of capital area news.
