The impact of Digital Video Effects and subtitles on evaluation and agenda recognition in TV News (TV뉴스의 어깨걸이와 자막이 뉴스에 대한 평가와 의제 인식에 미치는 영향)

  • An experiment was conducted to investigate the relationship between the DVEs and subtitles provided with anchor speech in TV news and the news evaluation, trust and agenda recognition. 120 university students were asked to watch four types of news that differed in the contents of their DVEs and subtitles, and then they evaluated the fairness, sensibility, and irritability of the news. The content of DVEs and subtitles were related to the irritability evaluation and trust of the news, and it was not related with the fairness and sensibility evaluation. When the DVEs and subtitles emphasizing the stimulating aspects of the issue were given, the irritability was highly evaluated and the trust was low. The evaluation on news fairness affected the news trust. The more they rated news as fair, the greater the trust in news. Unlike the assumption in this study, DVEs and subtitles were not the main factors influencing the news agenda perception, and the viewers tended to perceive the agenda based on the news content itself.

  • With the development of the Internet and the increase of smart phones, various services considering user convenience are increasing, so that users can check news in real time anytime and anywhere. However, online news is categorized by media and category, and it provides only a few related search terms, making it difficult to find related news related to keywords. In order to solve this problem, we propose a method to recommend related documents more accurately by applying Doc2Vec similarity to the specific keywords of news articles and weighting the title and contents of news articles. We collect news articles from Naver politics category by web crawling in Java environment, preprocess them, extract topics using LDA modeling, and find similarities using Doc2Vec. To supplement Doc2Vec, we apply TF-IDF to obtain TC(Title Contents) weights for the title and contents of news articles. Then we combine Doc2Vec similarity and TC weight to generate TC weight-similarity and evaluate the similarity between words using PMI technique to confirm the keyword association.

HTML specification and semantics analysis of korean news sites (한국 인터넷신문 HTML 규격 및 시맨틱스 수준 분석)

  • Visual interfaces of news sites look similar while their HTML have lots of different specifications and qualities. It's getting more and more significant to describe HTML semantically to make every computer able to understand contents to be shared as HTML5 specification refers. In this study, I have analysed HTML codes of 110 korean news sites in comparison to those of 8 global news sites. As results, 68% of news sites are still described in HTML4 specifications and only 10 out of 110 are in HTML5 specification and as high quality and strong semantics as global news sites. The result shows most korean news sites platforms had not been changed since they developed in mid-2000 and it's needed to be upgraded as language translation technologies are making it possible to share korean digital contents with the rest of world.

  • As the environment of wireless mobile is developed, the number of users who want to searching the information on the mobile internet is increasing as same as the contents are increasing. However the contents is just offered limited contents which should be charged such as download sounds and images. Users cannot be satisfied with their needs for searching information. The other hands, the reason why cannot achieved the effective comparison with costs is that the costs of development contents is very expensive. So variable contents cannot produced as much as users want. On this papers will introduce the way of producing the mobile contents by low cost. The program 'Mobuilder' will be introduced, which is the program to transfer directly form web contents to mobile contents. And it will propose the guideline to design mobile contents and mobile web will be developed mobile news site by proposed guideline and build the mobile site.

  • Changes in media technolgy affect the competitive status of broadcasting networks as news media. The competitive media environment has pushed broadcasting network news programs to find new ways for leveling their qualitative performance up and rating. This study focuses on the empirical relationship between the two key value, news quality in terms of fairness and in-depthness and news ratings. This study is based on the analysis of broadcasting network news texts and individual news item raitngs. Empirical relationship between news quality factors and ratings was proved positive. But the relationship between the length of news item and rating was proved negative.

Effects of Media Integration on Users' Parasocial Relationship and Political Participation in China

  • This study explored the effects of the parasocial relationship formed by CCTV (China Central Television) TV news and non-traditional news on users' perceived media credibility and their online and offline political participation. This study conducted a survey with the Chinese CCTV users between April 19 and April 30, 2021, and finally, 701 respondents' data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The study results showed that both TV news and non-traditional news had positive effects on parasocial relationships and the parasocial relationship positively influenced media credibility, which subsequently facilitated political participation. However, there was no direct effect between media usage and media credibility. This implies the important mediating role of parasocial interactions, which enables CCTV news to gain media credibility and subsequently influence political participation. This study suggests that CCTV needs to improve the parasocial interactions between their audience and media figures by utilizing the interactive mechanism of non-traditional media.

Comprehension of a News Story on SNS in Comparison to the Traditional Newspaper (소셜미디어에서의 뉴스 정보 수용과 전통 미디어 뉴스 읽기의 비교 카카오톡의 대화와 신문 비교를 중심으로)

  • This study investigated news comprehension via the social media by comparing the reading of a news story on the news paper. A news story on the social media was suggested to present information in a conversational form, which differs from a traditional reporting style. To compare the different forms of news information presentation, two conditions were created: in a control condition, a news story was written in a traditional reporting form. In the experimental condition, the same news story was constructed in a conversational form. Participants were assigned randomly in one of two conditions. They read the news story and afterwards, they were asked to recall firstly, the core idea of the news story, secondly the whole news story, and finally to answer to the 10 questions that assessed how well they learned from the news story. Participants' responses were content-analyzed and produced six variables, the extent to recall the core idea, the extent to recall the whole story, the extent to recall wrong information, the extent to recall additional information, the extent to recall causally related contents in general, and finally the extent to recall causally related contents in story-specific. Analyses on the six variables revealed that the group in the news paper condition recalled more core idea, the whole story, and additional information than the group in the social media. But the news paper condition recalled less of wrong information than the group in the social media condition. Additionally, the news paper condition learned more than the group in the social media. Regarding the recall of causally related contents, the general causal relationships were recalled more in the group in the social media condition but the story specific causal relationships were recalled more in the group in the news paper condition. The findings seemingly indicated that a traditional news reporting contributes to news story comprehension more than the conversational form. Authors however added discussions and advised that the findings needed to be read under caution.

  • This research verified the effects of anchors' reputation and brand equity evaluation of news on the continuous watching intention for general news channels such as KBS, JTBC, and YTN. Data collection was conducted on nationwide 539 adults who were watching news for each channel, and Hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to analyze the impact of the anchors' reputation and news brand equity evaluation factors. As a result, first, KBS showed continuous watching intention as viewers are men, their academic background is lower, they are more conservative, viewing frequency is higher, anchor awareness is higher, and news awareness and news preference are higher. Second, JTBC showed continuous watching intention as viewers are more advancing, viewing frequency is higher, anchor confidence, news awareness, and news preference, and evaluation on news quality are higher. Third, YTN showed continuous watching intention as their viewing frequency is higher, anchor confidence and anchor attraction are higher, news preference and evaluation on news quality are higher.

  • This study pays attention to the fact that the fake news is attracting attention because it causes various social problems. To find out these fake news' influence, the study conducted the experiment to examine that the fake news related to the electronic voting system affects on the news users' attitude of using the system, intention to participate in the election through the system and reliability of news services. The results have shown that the fake news framed with negative contents reduced users' attitude of using the system and intention of participation in the election. Especially, as a result of examining the difference in the fake news' influence according to each news services, in the case that users recognized that the news was fake after exposing to the general internet news, the attitude of using the system and the intention of participation in the election have reduced and recovered again. However, users who exposed to Naver, Facebook believed the negative content of the fake news more strongly. Through these results, this study empirically confirmed that the fake news has a tendency to exert influence on users' cognitive dimension and to reinforce awareness in a direction consistent with the initial exposure information.

  • This research proposes a personalized mobile web contents creation method that uses web news channel contents-based analysis. It promptly acquires data through the RSS and RSS-linked web pages which have been supplied by the existing web sites for a news search. And then It applies a personalization method using analysis in contents filtering and generation. The proposed method will make creating mobile web contents easier while lowering wireless contents production costs. Moreover, It can be improved a user satisfaction for contents filtering and access with using analysis that fits in with a matter of user's specific interest.
