  • There have been numerous studies directed toward the development of driving mechanisms for off-road mobility and rescue robots. To achieve surveillance, reconnaissance, and rescue, it is necessary for robots to have a driving mechanism that can handle off-road environments, We propose a new type of single-track driving mechanism with a variable geometry for a rescue robot, This mechanism has a symmetric configuration so that the robot can advance in two directions and also remain operable when overturned. By transforming its geometry, the robot can reduce energy consumption in steering and rotating as well as maximize its ability to climb obstacles such as stairs. The robot is also designed to have a compact size and low center of gravity to facilitate driving when on a set of stairs. In this paper, we analyzed the design parameters of the robot for the four phases of climbing stairs and determined the specifications needed to enhance its adaptability.

  • The development of new investigative technology and the changing roles of other biological and medical disciplines will result in major changes in the way veterinary pathology is practiced in the future. Unless the pathologists strategically prepare themselves to adopt and incorporate these changes into their modest operandi, the veterinary pathologist's traditional dominance in the diagnosis of spontaneous animal diseases and experimentally induced lesions in animals will be at risk. Although the distinguishing feature of pathologist is their artful ability to read and interpret the pathologic changes of cells and tissues, we must strive to enhance and expand our ability beyond and above the simple reading of H&E stained slides. Also, we must be prepared to meet the ever increasing demand of diagnostic accuracy and timeliness. To do so, we have to employ the new biological and toxicological technologies into our routine. • In today's fashion industry, directions for new products and high value added of fashion goods, product changes according to cycles, the shortening of life cycles, added value, planned obsolescence, and presentation is focused on fashion trends that will be selected by many consumers at the point of selling time. Therefore fashion information poses great importance and its weight is growing bigger everyday. Fashion information recognized to be important is reflected practically in the prediction of fashion changes in the fashion industry; especially, it is the first stage of the merchandising process that is the course of new product development. Presently, with some differences according to the size and specialized area of a firm, domestic fashion menufacturers obtain information from sales data of competing brands and their own, market information, consumer information based on primary data, shared fashion trend information given by domestic fashion information providing companies. Firms can not produce differentiated images and product concepts using such shared information. Although the types, importance and reflection of used information vary according to merchandising processes, all experts engaging in the merchandising of fashion products use the same shared information.

  • This paper introduces and illustrates the results of a new method for offsetting the triangular mesh generated from multiple surfaces. The meshes generated from each surface are separated each other and normal directions are different. The face normal vectors are flipped to upward and the lower faces covered by upper faces are deleted. The virtual normal vectors are introduced and used to of feet boundary. It was shown that new method is better than previous methods in offsetting the triangular meshes generated from multiple surfaces. The introduced offset method was applied for 3-axis tool path generation system and tested by NC machining.

  • The amount of incident solar rays on inclined surfaces with various directions has Since the atmospheric clearness index is main factor for evaluating atmosphere environment, it is necessary to estimate its characteristics all over the major cities in Korea Peninsula. We have begun collecting clearness index data since 1982 at 16 different cities in South Korea and estimated using empirical forecasting models at 12 different stations over the North Korea from 1982 to 2006. This considerable effort has been made for constructing a standard value from measured data at each city. The new clearness data for global-dimming analysis will be extensively used by evaluating atmospheric environment as well as by solar application system designer or users.

  • Today's food technologist is receiving increasingly pointed directions in the “selection of”and often “minimum amounts of”ingredients to use in the development of new food products. This increasing emphasis by marketing on “label”claims is real and gaining momentum in most market places. Thus, the development of functional foods that are providing customers with new and distinct nutritional choices. The driving force for the increased direction of the food technologist is that many governments are now allowing health related label claims on food products. These health claims are a result of very clearly and focused research that shows known nutritional benefits. The regulatory environment is well focused on the results of this peer reviewed research. In the USA, FDA has allowed several opportunities for health claims including fiber, soy protein and choline. This presentation will focus on only two of many functional ingredient options-the soy proteins and lecithin(choline).

  • This paper presents a new symmetrical routing architecture for FPGA and an efficient routing algorithm for the architecture. The routing architecture adopts the segmented wires and the improved switch modules. Segmetned wires construct routing channels which pass through the chip in vertical and horizontal directions. To maximize the utility of a track, a track in each switch module can be separated in two part using a programmable switch to route two different net. The proposed routing algorithm finds all assignable tracks for a given net and selects the best track from assignable tracks to minimize the number of programmable switches and the unused portion of the wire segments. In order to stabilize the perfomrance of the algorithm, the routing order is defined by weighted sum of the number of wire segment, the length of wire segmetn, and the number of pin. Experimental results show that routability is improved dramatically and the number of crossing switches are reduced about 40% compared with the previous works.

  • A new three-phase soft-switching active front-end inverter is presented. The topology consists of a quasi-resonant PWM boost converter with an additional resonant branch, which provides low loss at high frequency operation. This leads to a high conversion efficiency and a remarkable reduction in the siBe of the input inductor. To synchronise the PWM pattern with the resonance cycle, a modified space vector modulation with asymmetrical PWM pattern is used. A high power factor can be achieved for both power flow directions. Due to a new control strategy the converter features a low content of harmonics in the line currents even for distorted line voltages.

  • In order to improve the atmosphere within Historic and Culturally Symbolic Street- DongChun-Dang street which represents the historical characteristics of Daejeon- this study aims to derive improvement methods by analyzing preceding studies, identify problems and offer the directions that could make historic cultural street, and propose the guidelines could apply to new district development at historic cultural area. The research results are as follows : First, method for improvement of historic cultural street is not fragmentary but integrated. Second, we suggested plans for improvement of DongChun-Dang street. Third, to make historic cultural images of streets, it is considered that guidelines include volumes, colors of surrounding buildings and designs of street furnitures have to be provided on the new urban or district development at historic cultural area.

  • University ranking models, though they consider multiple indicators to evaluate universities, determine the overall score of each university based on their own normalization and aggregation methods. Thus, the rankings provided by such models primarily depend on actual scores of evaluation indicators, but they are also significantly affected by the normalization and aggregation methods. We examine the normalization methods of four university ranking models used in South Korea, China, and United Kingdom. We discuss a possible unintended consequence of these methods, i.e., some universities who want to improve their rankings may focus on unnecessary indicators, contrary to the evaluator's intension, due to the normalization methods. We suggest a new normalization method based on the statistical characteristics of the distribution of each evaluation indicator so that the new method can motivate the universities to move into the desirable directions intended by the evaluator.
