Generational Differences in Doenjang Consumption Patterns in Gyeonggi area (경기지역 주부 연령대별 된장 소비패턴)

  • Marketing of traditional doenjang (a kind of fermented soybean product) is now focusing on its health advantages, being proven to have anti-viral, anti-cancer and anti-oxidant effects. The purpose of this study is to investigate the consumption patterns of traditional doenjang in the households managed by different generations of women living in Gyeonggi area. Six hundred housewives answered the questionnaire. Statistical analyses were performed on 590 subjects using SAS (ver 8.1). Chi-square tests and General Linear Models were used. The age distribution of housewives was as follows: 42.9% were in their 30s; 40.9% were in their 40s; and 16.2% were in their 50s. 57.5% of subjects graduated with high school education while 72.8% of subjects did housework only. Overall, 47.2%, prepared their doenjang themselves, while the remainder purchased it or received it from relatives. This percentage differed however according to age group, as self-preparation of doenjang was found in only 22% of housewives in their 30s, but increased to 83% of subjects in their 50s. 53.4% of subjects had their doenjang donated to them by relatives, compared with only 3.1 % of subjects in their 50s. Most of dishes using doenjang were soups and stews. Those housewives in their 50s made significantly higher use of doenjang in soup, wrapping vegetables (ssamjang), seasoning, and flat cake (jangttok). Doenjang dishes were prepared for the husband in the family 59.2% of the time, followed by housewives 15.4% of the time. Annual consumption of doenjang was 5.1kg. and Kanjang was 4.4L per household; there was no significant difference between the age groups respecting annual consumption. From such results, we may assume a decrease in home-made doenjang among younger generations and an increase in the amount of purchased doenjang. We can predict an increased need for doenjang of better quality. Also the development of new products such as ready-to-eat or fast food variants would better serve the trend towards convenience.

  • The core technology of a starting device in the packaged power system is the pinion gear shifting device and to limit the initial starting voltage. Although the conventional products have been used the starting controller using mechanical contactor, these have a big problem such as the uncertainty for the start of starting motor after a pinion gear is completely shifted or the arc demage due to high current. In this study, in order to solve these problems, we designed and fabricated a new product to achieve the safety and reliability as follows: the pinion gear-shifting control circuits to eliminate the uncertainty of the start, the starting control system using semiconductor device to prevent the arc demage of contactor caused by high current, a start safety devices for soft starting of series motor. In addition, we obtained the electrical safety by separating the pinion gear control circuit and the source circuit of motor.

  • The present age is requested designer to be a generalist. The educational methods of university is changing over from intention of the technical education which is one of the traditional education methods to intention of a talented man with multiple knowledge. Also, the universities are establishing special curricular for cultivating men of ability. Many of an employer want to engage not only the specialist as the talented men in their own major field, but the generalist as the multiple knowledge in several field. Designer should have both a good stock of knowledge and personality. Also design should be able to easy access to all as a generalist instead of an obstinate streak as a monopoly of their specialist. This study was focused on development of basic research for understanding about design to generalist. It is purposed to suggest a research for a new recognition of design.

A Study on Design Development of Environment-friendly Mobile Home Sauna (친환경 모바일 홈 사우나 디자인 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The appeal of sauna is caused by the fact that through that, one can feel Korea's unique temperament and culture; however, because of its being a public facility and flooding of businesses due to excessive supplies of various additional features such as washing, playing, eating, sleeping and health care functions, issues of social resources and environment come to the fore, so it has reached a situation of red ocean that it is difficult to enter the market anymore. Taking these into account, this study focused on developing a thermal technology and design of the housing of an environment-friendly mobile home sauna, making the most use of the sauna's fundamental purpose and settling it as a tourist product, analyzing the marketing research on the existing sauna and considering the recent housing trends and lifestyles for a new concept sauna. Thus, regarding its characteristics and utilization, it was designed smaller than $10m^2$ (3 pyeong) so that it would be easy to install in any space and convenient to move. It can be installed in separate buildings and rest spaces such as country houses, resorts, pensions, camping grounds as well as outdoor houses, custom produced for a measure of pyeong that customers want so as to match up with the Enforcement Ordinance of the Agricultural Land Act in a concept of the farmer's hut and kitchen, bathroom and bathroom can be installed inside according to an option. In addition, regarding its efficacy, in order to give environment-friendly healing effects, materials such as Hinoki Cypress, red clay and hardwood charcoal were used, a fixed indoor temperature of $70{\sim}100^{\circ}C$ was maintained by heating methods such as electromagnetic wave free, energy saving and low-power boiler, and it was made to have excellent effects on fatigue recovery, relieving stress, skin care and diet through far-infrared emission.

  • In the modern 21st century society, the personal image is considered to be very important. As a result, the importance of presenting one's personal image through personal color in fashion and beauty related fields are increasing, and is the most realistic and practical field of color. When the color of the wardrobe and the skin color are in disharmony, that disharmony becomes the source of the lines and wrinkles that appear on one's face, resulting in shades. The boundary that is created when the color of the wardrobe and the skin color are in disharmony, it works negatively on one's image. When color arrangements are close or similar (in harmony) or are in complementary color arrangements or in strong contrasting state (contrasting harmony), it is generally believed to be beautifully harmonious. Personal color assessment is finding colors, through systematic and scientific methods, that improve the personal image by reaching harmony with skin colors that each and every individual are uniquely born with. In this study, one was able to learn the improved visual effects of the face image through creating harmony with the wardrobe and color shade make up and complementary colors that were selected based on personal colors. The base make up, through using the contrasting effects of the complementary colors which represents the supplementing, correcting, and complementing of the face image by contrasting with complementary colors, brings positive changes through correcting the base skin color. It is believed that this study finds its importance in that the improved image that is created by the overall harmony of the wardrobe and body can be used as valuable data in marketing and new product development efforts in the related industries.

Functional Analysis of a Histidine Auxotrophic Mutation in Gibberella zeae

  • A plant pathogenic fungus, Gibberella zeae (anamorph: Fusarium graminearum), not only generates economic losses by causing disease on cereal grains, but also leads to severe toxicosis in human and animals through the production of mycotoxins in infected plants. Here, we characterized a histidine auxotrophic mutant of G. zeae, designated Z43R1092, which was generated using a restriction enzyme-mediated integration (REMI) procedure. The mutant exhibited pleiotropic phenotypic changes, including a reduction in mycelial growth and virulence and loss of sexual reproduction. Outcrossing analysis confirmed that the histidine auxotrophy is linked to the insertional vector in Z43R1092. Molecular analysis showed that the histidine requirement of Z43R1092 is caused by a disruption of an open reading frame, designated GzHIS7. The deduced product of GzHIS7 encodes a putative enzyme with an N-terminal glutamine amidotransferase and a C-terminal cyclase domain, similar to the Saccharomyces cerevisiae HIS7 required for histidine biosynthesis. The subsequent gene deletion and complementation analyses confirmed the functions of GzHIS7 in G. zeae. This is the first report of the molecular characterization of histidine auxotrophy in G. zeae, and our results demonstrate that correct histidine biosynthesis is essential for virulence, as well as sexual development, in G. zeae. In addition, our results could provide a G. zeae histidine auxotroph as a recipient strain for genetic transformation using this new selectable marker.

A Study on Fabric Color Mapping for 2D Virtual Wearing System (2D 가상 착의 시스템의 직물 컬러 매핑에 관한 연구)

  • Mass-customization is fast growing a segment of the apparel market. 2D Virtual wearing system is one of visual support tools that make possible to sell apparel before producing and reduce the time and costs related to product development and manufacturing in the world of apparel mass-customization. This paper is related to fabric color mapping method for 2D image-based virtual wearing system. In proposed method, clothing shape section of interest is segmented from a clothes model image using a region growing method, and then mapping a new fabric color selected by user into it based on its intensity difference map is processed. With the proposed method in 2D virtual wearing system, regardless of color or intensity of model clothes, it is possible to virtually change the fabric color with holding the illumination and shading properties of the selected clothing shape section, and also to quickly and easily simulate, compare, and select multiple fabric color combinations for individual styles or entire outfits.

A Study of Fashion Cultural Product Design applying the Form of Traditional Fan (전통 부채의 형태를 응용한 패션문화상품 디자인 연구)

  • This paper intends to find out any possibility that a traditional fan can be continuously used for design development of fashion cultural products which highlight the differentiated uniqueness of Korean traditional cultures. For this purpose, this paper will newly reinterpret design-based formative factors that the shape and the line of a traditional fan shows, and then, make a pattern. This paper studied the existing literatures of a traditional fan, made the shape of a traditional fan into a motif, using computer graphic programs, like Adobe Illustrator CS 2 and Adobe Photoshop CS2, and then, applied it to neckties, T-shirts, and scarves. Among various kinds of traditional fans this paper set 4 basic motifs of new formative images by use of the shapes of Dan-Seon and Jeob-Seon, and then, developed them into two basic motifs each. Pink, blue, purple, green, yellow, orange, and gray were used as the basic colors of the motifs, through which splendid, but calm images were planned. The design of a necktie, which used a developed motif design, was applied in the form of a repeated pattern, through which a calm image was expressed. 45o turn was applied to this design to make a striped pattern image or a refined and cheerful image. The scarf design was developed into a rectangular long scarf so it can be used like a shawl. The design of T-shirt was developed into three types: a round neck-lined half-sleeved box type; a round neck-lined sleeveless type; and a V neck-lined, tight half-sleeved type.

A Study on the Forming Process Development of a Long-neck Flange Using a Long Pipe (긴 관을 이용한 롱넥플랜지 성형공정 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The pipe with a long-neck flange is widely used in power plants, chemical plants, and shipbuilding companies. Now the pipe with a long-neck flange is manufactured by welding a thick flange to a pipe. But this long-neck flange pipe has some defects in the welding region such as unfitting and local thermal fatigue, which weaken the strength around the neck of the flange. Moreover, after welding the flange, the contacting surfaces of the flange have to be machined flat. So, that is uneconomical. Therefore, to solve the above problems of the long-neck flange pipe, a new process, which has no defects around the flange neck, is required. In this study, three forming processes are suggested to get an enhanced long-neck flange. First suggested process consists of conical forming and flange forming. Second and third suggested processes consist of the bulging of a long pipe locally heated by induction coils and the flange forming. The differences between second and third suggestions are the thickness and local heating area of the pipe. That is, the thickness of the initial pipe of third suggestion is larger than that of the final product, and the local heating area is smaller than that of second suggestion. These three suggestions for forming a long-neck flange are simulated by FE analyses with a commercial code DEFORM 2D. Especially, the theoretical result of FE analysis on the first suggestion for forming a long-neck flange is verified by the experiment with aluminum 6063 pipes. From the theoretical and experimental results, it is concluded that three suggested processes are very useful in order to manufacture the pipe with a long-neck flange without any defects.

Effects of Natural Products on the Induction of NAD(P)H: Quinone Reductase in Hepa 1c1c7 Cells for the Development of Cancer Chemopreventive Agents

  • NAD(P)H:quinone reductase (QR) is one of the protective phase II enzymes against toxicity that accomplishes the capacity of detoxification by modulating the effects of mutagens and carcinogens. The detoxification mechanism is that quinone reductase promotes the 2-electron reduction of quinones to hydroquinones which are less reactive. This study is to search new inducers of quinone reductase from natural products, which can be used as cancer chemopreventive agents. Plant extracts were evaluated by using quinone reductase generating system With Hepa 1c1c7 murine hepatoma cell lines for enzyme inducing properties and crystal violet staining method for the measurement of cytotoxicity provoked. We have tested approximately 106 kinds of natural products after partition into n-hexane, ethyl acetate and aqueous layers from 100% methanol extracts of natural products. The ethyl acetate fractions of Vitex rotundifolia $(fruits,\;2FC:\;12.7\;{\mu}g/ml)$, Cnidium officinale $(aerial\;parts,\;2FC:\;10.5\;{\mu}g/ml)$, Chrysanthemum sinese $(flowers,\;2FC:\;17.4{\mu}g/ml)$ and the hexane fractions of Angelica gigas $(roots,\;2FC:\;13.2\;{\mu}g/ml)$, Smilax china $(roots,\;2FC:\;l1.9\;{\mu}g/ml)$, Sophora flavescens $(roots,\;2FC:\;16.3\;{\mu}g/ml)$ revealed the significant induction of quinone reductase in a murine hepatic Hepa 1c1c7 cell culture system.
