In this paper, PD-like visual servoing is modified in two ways: a sliding-mode observer is applied to estimate the joint velocities, and a RBF neural network is used to compensate the unknown gravity and friction. Based on Lyapunov method and input--to-state stability theory, we prove that PD-like visual servoing with the sliding mode observer and the neuro compensator is robust stable when the gain of the PD controller is bigger than the upper bounds of the uncertainties. Several simulations are presented to support the theory results.

Blind source separation by independent component analysis (ICA) has applied in signal processing, telecommunication, and image processing to recover unknown original source signals from mutually independent observation signals. Neural networks are learned to estimate the original signals by unsupervised learning algorithm. Because the outputs of the neural networks which yield original source signals are mutually independent, then mutual information is zero. This is equivalent to minimizing the Kullback-Leibler convergence between probability density function and the corresponding factorial distribution of the output in neural networks. In this paper, we present a learning algorithm using information theory and higher order statistics to solve problem of blind source separation. For computer simulation two deterministic signals and a Gaussian noise are used as original source signals. We also test the proposed algorithm by applying it to several discrete images.

In order to approximate a nonlinear function, modular wavelet networks combining wavelet theory and modular concept based on single layer neural network have been proposed as an alternative to conventional wavelet neural networks and kind of modular network. Modular wavelet networks provide better approximating performance than conventional one. In this paper, we propose an effective method to construct an optimal modualr wavelet network using genetic algorithm. This is verified through experimental results.
Since KBANN (knowledge-based artificial neural network) combing the inductive learning algorithm and the analytical learning algorithm was proposed, several methods such as TopGen, TR-KBANN, THRE-KBANN which modify KBANN have been proposed. But these methods can be applied when there is a domain theory. The algorithm representing the problem into KBANN based on only the instances without domain theory is proposed in this paper. Domain theory represented into KBANN can be refined by THRE-KBANN. The performance of this algorithm is more efficient than the C4.5 in the experiment for some problem domains of inductive learning.
Locating and assessing the severity of damage in large or complex structures is one of the most challenging problems in the field of civil engineering. Considering that the wavelet packet transform (WPT) has the ability to clearly reflect the damage characteristics of structural response signals and the artificial neural network (ANN) is capable of learning in an unsupervised manner and of forming new classes when the structural exhibits change, this paper investigates a multi-stage structural damage diagnosis method by using the WPT and ANN based on "energy-damage" theory, in which, the wavelet packet component energies are first extracted to be damage sensitive feature and then adopted as input into an improved back propagation (BP) neural network model for damage diagnosis in a step by step mode. To validate the efficacy of the presented approach of the damage diagnosis, the benchmark structure of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is employed in the case study. The results of damage diagnosis indicate that the method herein is computationally efficient and is able to detect the existence of different damage patterns in the simulated experiment where minor, moderate and severe damages corresponds to involving in the loss of stiffness on braces or the removal bracing in various combinations.
Coughing and breath shortness are common symptoms of nano (small) cell lung cancer. Smoking is main factor in causing such cancers. The cancer cells form on the soft tissues of lung. Deformation behavior and wave vibration of lung affected when cancer cells exist. Therefore, in the current work, phase velocity behavior of the small cell lung cancer as a main part of the body via an exact size-dependent theory is presented. Regarding this problem, displacement fields of small cell lung cancer are obtained using first-order shear deformation theory with five parameters. Besides, the size-dependent small cell lung cancer is modeled via nonlocal stress/strain gradient theory (NSGT). An analytical method is applied for solving the governing equations of the small cell lung cancer structure. The novelty of the current study is the consideration of the five-parameter of displacement for curved panel, and porosity as well as NSGT are employed and solved using the analytical method. For more verification, the outcomes of this reports are compared with the predictions of deep neural network (DNN) with adaptive optimization method. A thorough parametric investigation is conducted on the effect of NSGT parameters, porosity and geometry on the phase velocity behavior of the small cell lung cancer structure.

This paper presents a neural net based nonlinear adaptive controller for an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). AUV's dynamics are highly nonlinear and their hydrodynamic coefficients vary with different operational conditions, so it is necessary for the high performance control system of an AUV to have the capacities of learning and adapting to the change of the AUV's dynamics. In this paper a linearly parameterized neural network is used to approximate the uncertainties of the AUV's dynamics, and a sliding mode control is introduced to attenuate the effects of the neural network's reconstruction errors and the disturbances of AUV's dynamics. The presented controller is consist of three parallel schemes; linear feedback control, sliding mode control and neural network. Lyapunov theory is used to guarantee the asymptotic convergence of trajectory tracking errors and the neural network's weights errors. Numerical simulations for motion control of an AUV are performed to illustrate to effectiveness of the proposed techniques.

The aim of this study is to develop basic artificial neural network models in forecasting the in-sample gross domestic product (GDP) of Malaysia. GDP is one of the main indicators in presenting the macro economic condition of a country as set by the world authority bodies such as the World Bank. Hence, this study uses an artificial neural network-based approach to make predictions concerning the economic growth of Malaysia. This method has been proposed due to its ability to overcome multicollinearity among variables, as well as the ability to cope with non-linear problems in Malaysia's growth data. The selected inputs and outputs are based on the previous literatures as well as the economic growth theory. Therefore, the selected inputs are exports, imports, private consumption, government expenditure, consumer price index (CPI), inflation rate, foreign direct investment (FDI) and money supply, which includes M1 and M2. Whilst, the output is real gross domestic product growth rate. The results of this study showed that the neural network method gives the smallest value of mean error which is 0.81 percent with a total difference of 0.70 percent. This implies that the neural network model is appropriate and is a relevant method in forecasting the economic growth of Malaysia.

This study presents new scheme for various walking pattern of biped robot under the limitted enviroments. We show that the neural network is significantly more attractive intelligent controller design than previous traditional forms of control systems. A multilayer backpropagation neural network identification is simulated to obtain a learning control solution of biped robot. Once the neural network has learned, the other neural network control is designed for various trajectory tracking control with same learning-base. The main advantage of our scheme is that we do not require any knowledge about the system dynamic and nonlinear characteristic, and can therefore treat the robot as a black box. It is also shown that the neural network is a powerful control theory for various trajectory tracking control of biped robot with same learning-vase. That is, we do net change the control parameter for various trajectory tracking control. Simulation and experimental result show that the neural network is practically feasible and realizable for iterative learning control of biped robot.

The preconsolidation pressure has been commonly determined by oedometer test. However, it can also be determined by in-situ test, such as piezocone test with theoretical and(or) empirical correlations. Recently, Neural Network(NN) theory was applied and some models were proposed to estimate the preconsolidation pressure or OCR. However, since the optimization process of synaptic weights of NN model is dependent on the initial synaptic weights, NN models which are trained with different initial weights can't avoid the variability on prediction result for new database even though they have same structure and use same transfer function. In this study, Committee Neural Network(CNN) model is proposed to improve the initial weight dependency of multi-layered neural network model on the prediction of preconsolidation pressure of soft clay from piezocone test result. It was found that even though the NN model has the optimized structure for given training data set, it still has the initial weight dependency, while the proposed CNN model can improve the initial weight dependency of the NN model and provide a consistent and precise inference result than existing NN models.
