  • Due to the deployment of various wireless networks originating from CDMA, GSM, and WLAN, it became very convenient to exchange information from one place to another. As compared with the traditional environments for one-way information distribution based on fixed radio frequency bands, the convenient wireless network environments will bring about many changes in positioning technologies based on global navigation satellites. Among the many changes to come, the reconfigurable receiver network is one of the most attractive concepts since it can be tailored to a specific application area among networked robots, formation flying, bridge monitoring, and traffic monitoring. As an initial study to develop a reconfigurable receiver network, this paper deals with the design and implementation of the key elements of the reconfigurable receiver netowork; server, broadcaster, and client. In the designed receiver network, a sever receives and decodes measurements from a reference receiver installed at a known location, a broadcaster processes and transfers the messages from servers to clients and manages connections with servers and clients, a client receives the messages from the broadcaster and performs differential positioning. A real-time experiment result is demonstrated to validate the functionalities of each network element.

  • Convolutional codes which are terminated by direct truncation (DT) and zero tail termination provide unequal error protection. When DT terminated convolutional codes are used to encode short messages, they have interesting error protection properties. Such codes match the significance of the output bits of common quantizers and therefore lead to a low mean square error (MSE) when they are used to encode quantizer outputs which are transmitted via a noisy digital communication system. A code construction method that allows adapting the code to the channel is introduced, which is based on time-varying convolutional codes. We can show by simulations that DT terminated convolutional codes lead to a lower MSE than standard block codes for all channel conditions. Furthermore, we develop an MSE approximation which is based on an upper bound on the error probability per information bit. By means of this MSE approximation, we compare the convolutional codes to linear unequal error protection code construction methods from the literature for code dimensions which are relevant in analog to digital conversion systems. In numerous situations, the DT terminated convolutional codes have the lowest MSE among all codes.

  • Network technology has been developed for very high-speed networking and multimedia data whose characteristics are the continuous and bursty transmission as well as a large amount of data. With this trend users wish to view the information about the application services as well as network devices and system hardware. However, it is rarely available for the users the information of performance or faults of the application services. Most of information is limited to the information related network devices or system hardware. Furthermore, users expect the best services without knowing the service environments in the network and there is no good way of delivering the service related problems and fault information of application services in a high speed network yet. In this paper we present a web-based application management system that we have developed for the past year. It includes a method to build an agent system that uses an existing network management standards, SNMP MIB and SNMP protocols. The user interface of the system is also developed to support visualization effects with web-based Java interface which offers a convenient way not only to access management information but also to control networked applications.

  • The evolution of networking technology such as commercialization of 5G systems provides foundation for information exchange and control of systems over the network. In addition, importance of controlling a system with delay is increasing significantly, since various phenomena in the network are associated with delay. In this paper, with a predictive control which has been studied for designing a controller with low complexity, we propose a novel predictive control for a system with multi-inputs such that it can keeps the complexity almost the same regardless of the number of inputs and degree of delay. The asymptotic stability of the proposed control with a static output feedback is also proved. The numerical simulation shows that the proposed method is superior in complexity and the performance of finding feasible controllers to the existing predictive control and a conventional method based on augmented states.

  • From public insecurity, access of wealth, alteration of population structure, and changes of security recognition, physical security has been continuously developed and changed. In these days, typical systems for physical security are unmanned security system using telephone network and security equipment, image recognition system using DVR and camera, and access control system by finger print recognition and RFID cards. However, physical security system is broadening its domain towards ICT based convergence with networked camera, biometrics, individual authentication, and LBS services. This paper proposes main technical trends and various security convergences for future physical security services by classifying the security categories into 3 parts; Individual security for personal protection, IT Convergence for large buildings, and Homeland Security for omni-directional security.

  • In understanding concepts, there are two aspects; image and language. The point discussed in this paper is things fundamental in finding proper relations between objects in a scene to represent the meaning of the that whole scene properly through experiencing in image and language. It is assumed that one of the objects in a scene has letters as objects inside its contour. As the present system can deal with both figures and letters in a scene, the above assumption makes it easy for the system to infer the context of a scene. Several personal computers on the LAN network are used and they process items in parallel.

  • We focus on the network itself and its ability to enable efficient and effective information flow. All networks are complex to a greater degree, including military command and control systems operating in a network-centric environment. It requires to understand the nature of complexity, what its effects are, and how to quantify them. In this paper, we present the beneficial effects of information accessibility and network-based redundancy into a single metric.

  • This paper presents a network-based automation system for the detection of metallic objects in food and livestock. A metal detector is a core equipment used for the inspection required by HACCP. Since the existing metal detectors are manufactured as a single-body equipment, it is difficult to take into account various user requirements for the system. In order to overcome the drawback, this study presents a network-based automation system for metal detector utilizing an industrial fieldbus and modular components. The proposed system can effectively consider the various customer requirements and control schemes. The proposed system can also achieve the improvement in speed and success rate of detecting metallic objects. The effectiveness of the proposed system is demonstrated through a various experiments.

  • Latest advances in hardware technology and state of the art of mobile robot and artificial intelligence research can be employed to develop autonomous and distributed monitoring systems. And mobile service robot requires the perception of its present position to coexist with humans and support humans effectively in populated environments. To realize these abilities, robot needs to keep track of relevant changes in the environment. This paper proposes a localization of mobile robot using the images by distributed intelligent networked devices (DINDs) in intelligent space (ISpace) is used in order to achieve these goals. This scheme combines data from the observed position using dead-reckoning sensors and the estimated position using images of moving object, such as those of a walking human, used to determine the moving location of a mobile robot. The moving object is assumed to be a point-object and projected onto an image plane to form a geometrical constraint equation that provides position data of the object based on the kinematics of the intelligent space. Using the a priori known path of a moving object and a perspective camera model, the geometric constraint equations that represent the relation between image frame coordinates of a moving object and the estimated position of the robot are derived. The proposed method utilizes the error between the observed and estimated image coordinates to localize the mobile robot, and the Kalman filtering scheme is used to estimate the location of moving robot. The proposed approach is applied for a mobile robot in ISpace to show the reduction of uncertainty in the determining of the location of the mobile robot. Its performance is verified by computer simulation and experiment.
