  • Modern companies have been facing devastating impacts from unexpected events such as demand uncertainties, natural disasters, and terrorist attacks due to the increasing global supply chain complexity. This paper proposes a multi stage logistic network model under disruption risk. To formulate the problem practically, we consider the effect of continuity rate, which is defined as a percentage of ability of the facility to provide backup allocation to customers in the abnormal situation and affect the investments and operational costs. Then we vary the fixed charge for opening facilities and the operational cost according to the continuity rate. The operational level of the company decreases below the normal condition when disruption occurs. The backup source after the disrup-tion is recovered not only as soon as possible, but also as much as possible. This is a concept of the business continuity plan to reduce the recovery time objective such a continuity rate will affect the investments and op-erational costs. Through numerical experiments, we have shown the proposed idea is capable of designing a resilient logistic network available for business continuity management/plan.

  • The government has proposed a mission to enhance intelligent power networks, decrease coal-fired generation, expand distributed energy resources, and promote energy prosumer into the distribution network in Korea. Installation cost of facility expansion to guaranteed interconnection with small distributed energy resources increases dramatically on KEPCO's distribution sector. And it is hard to withdraw in time. In addition, there are explicit research is required to meet the reliability on grid corresponding to the increase of distributed power. Infrastructure support for accommodating energy prosumer is also needed. Therefore, KEPCO is pushing transition to DSO by expanding distribution management scope and changing its roles. In addition, KEPCO is proactively preparing for integrated operation between distribution network and existing distributed power which is accommodated passively. KEPCO is also trying to accept multiple network users, e.g. building platforms, to manage a data and promote new markets. In the long term, transition to DSO will achieve saving investment costs for accommodating distributed sources and maintaining stable electrical quality. And it will be possible to create new business model using the platform to secure revenue.

  • In recent years, due to the demand for operating efficiency and cost reduction of industrial facilities, remote access via the Internet is expanding. the control network accelerates from network separation to network connection due to the development of IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) technology. Transition of control network is a new opportunity, but concerns about cybersecurity are also growing. Therefore, manufacturers must reflect security compliance and standards in consideration of the Internet connection environment, and enterprises must newly recognize the connection area of the control network as a security management target. In this study, the core target of the control system security threat is defined as the network boundary, and issues regarding the security architecture configuration for the boundary and the role & responsibility of the working organization are covered. Enterprises do not integrate the design organization with the operation organization after go-live, and are not consistently reflecting security considerations from design to operation. At this point, the expansion of the control network is a big transition that calls for the establishment of a responsible organization and reinforcement of the role of the network boundary area where there is a concern about lack of management. Thus, through the organization of the facility network and the analysis of the roles between each organization, an static perspective and difference in perception were derived. In addition, standards and guidelines required for reinforcing network boundary security were studied to address essential operational standards that required the Internet connection of the control network. This study will help establish a network boundary management system that should be considered at the enterprise level in the future.

  • Recently, various studies have been conducted to optimize the pump operation scheduling and/or the pump/tank size minimizing the system cost of water distribution network. Prior to that, it is important to understand the sensitivity of pump/tank size on the system cost and overall water quality. Here, we have performed the sensitivity analysis to investigate the effect of pump/tank size on the economic cost (construction and operation) and water quality (water age). The analysis was applied on a real, large-scale water transmission network currently operating in South Korea. The results revealed that the pump/tank size has a strong influence on system construction/operation costs. Especially, the tank size has a significant effect on the system-wide water quality. In the case of applied networks, the operating cost decreases as the capacity of the facility increases, but the design cost increases. Using a sensitivity analysis, a suitable range of pump/tank size could be suggested to minimize costs and stabilize the water quality at the same time prior to a system design.

  • In recent years, with increasing utilization of mobile devices such as smartphones, the need for PNS(Pedestrian Navigation Systems) that provide guidance for moving pedestrians is increasing. For the navigation services, road network is the most important component when it comes to creating route and guidance information. In particular, pedestrian network requires modeling methods for more detailed and vast space compared to road network. Therefore, more efficient method is needed to establish pedestrian network that was constructed by existing field survey and manual editing process. This research proposed a pedestrian network creation method appropriate for pedestrians, based on CNS(Car Navigation Systems) data that already has been broadly constructed. Pedestrian network was classified into pedestrian link(sidewalk, side street, walking facility) and openspace link depending on characteristics of walking space, and constructed by applying different methodologies in order to create path that similar to the movements of actual pedestrians. The proposed algorithm is expected to become an alternative for reducing the time and cost of pedestrian network creation.

  • Due to its high dependency of manpower, construction work has several difficulties in terms of quality control, imbalance of supply and demand of qualified manpower, safety management for them and improvement of production. Such problems related to the management can be at some degree solved by introducing an automation facility. Since the unique environment of a construction site in the past was not structured, it is very hard to introduce a facility to automate construction work from operation of the equipment to assignment of where to work. This is a preliminary research for automation of construction work. In this study, the trend of development of a cutting-edge technology, RTLS, was researched and analyzed in order to review the possibility of utilizing RTLS in construction work and present a control mechanism for construction equipment. Although the presented mechanism is at the concept stage, which still has lots of restrictions to be solved, the application of the RTLS will be very much feasible. That is, if linkage of the study between the RTLS and the automation of construction is built, it will be expected to contribute to many fields such as cost reduction through efficient and systemic management, the reduction of construction period and precise construction as well as raising the level of the automation of domestic construction work.

  • The optimal congestion charge in transportation economics corresponds to the solution to the welfare maximization Problem for users of a certain road link where congestion takes Place. This congestion charge is in nature the optimal Price of the transportation facility, which is derived by the Partial equilibrium analysis on that facility. Therefore it is not certain that this congestion charge can maximize the well-being of all the users of the total transportation network, since the analysis does not count the impact of the congestion charge on traffic volumes of other links. This study suggests an alternative approach to estimate the optimal congestion charge. The key difference of this study from Previous ones is to derive the solution through the general equilibrium analysis on a market where several transportation facilities as well as Private goods are available to consumers. This approach shows a set of solutions a little different from the Previous one, which are explained below. The optimal congestion charge is derived for two different cases. One is the situation of which the congestion charge is levied on every transportation facility In this case, the optimal solution of each facility should equate the marginal utility of every user to the marginal cost of the corresponding facility. This analysis result in general equilibrium coincides with the Previous analysis result in partial equilibrium. However this result cannot apply to another case of which the charge is imposed only on a certain transportation facility. In this case, the optimal charge on a certain transportation facility should be less than the optimal congestion charge of partial equilibrium analysis.

  • Although infrastructure cost comprises the great proportion of residential development cost, all of it tends to be borne by land developers which develop large area. This brings about free-riding by adjacent small development or built-up area, followed by the equity problem in terms of infrastructure development cost sharing and the privatization of development gain. This study aims to establish the method to analyze free-riding on the transportation infrastructure(roads) and investigate empirically how much the free-riding occurs. It sets several development scenarios to calculate the part generated by Bucheon Sangdong district, the case area of this study, of all the traffic flow on the roads. The Network analysis is used to estimate the proportion, by development scenarios, of traffic flow, travel time, and travel cost. As a result, the developer of Bucheon Sangdong district is responsible for 83% of the construction cost of selected roads. The methodology and empirical result of this study would contribute to determine who are liable for the infrastructure facilitation and to estimate how much of the cost the obligators have to share.

  • A distributed healthcare monitoring system prototype for clinical and trauma patients, was developed, using wireless sensor network node. The proposed system aimed to measure various vital physiological health parameters like ECG and body temperature of patients and elderly persons and transfer his/ her health status wirelessly in Ad-hoc network, to remote base station which was connected to doctor's PDA/PC or to a hospital's main Server using wireless sensor node. The system also aims to save the cost of healthcare facility for patients and the operating power of the system because sensor network is deployed widely and the distance from sensor to base station was shorter than in general centralized system. The wireless data communication will follow IEEE 802.15.4 frequency communication with ad-hoc routing thus enabling every motes attached to patients, to form a wireless data network to send data to base-station, providing mobility and convenience to the users in home environment.

  • In conducting studies related to the national base networks, it is very important to construct a simulation network. This research provides an algorithm to construct the simulation network from the digital transportation map which is constructed based on the National Geographic Information System(NGIS). The algorithm consists of three functions(extraction of networks from transportation digital map, transform of the derived network into one suitable to transportation simulation model, and inspection of errors in the network). The direct derivation of a simulation network from GIS enables to enhance the reliability of an analysis related to a transportation facility investment as well as to reduce cost and time. In this research, Emme/2 which is generally accepted transportation planning fields is adapted for the target system. However, this algorithm will be extended to other simulation models such as Satong-Paldal which is the only transportation simulation model developed in Korea, and Tranplan in the near future.
