  • A growing body of research explores how users of online communities navigate through large-scale platforms to find the information they seek. This study builds on the theories of homophily, structural embeddedness, and social exchange to investigate how interest homophily and existing communication structures serve as mechanisms driving information searches and the subsequent formation of communication networks in these communities. Specifically, we analyze comment-on-post tie formation using network data from "Today's House," the largest online user community specializing in interior design in Korea. Employing the LR-QAP method, a permutation-based hypothesis testing algorithm for social network data, our research identifies that network tie formation is driven by both homophilous information searches based on instrumental and hedonic interests, as well as by structurally induced searches such as preferential attachment, reciprocity, and transitivity. In addition, we investigate the contingent effects of communication structure on homophilous tie formation. Our findings suggest that while network-wide structural characteristics enhance homophilous tie formation based on instrumental interests, local network processes leverage homophily based on hedonic interests. We conclude by discussing the theoretical implications of the differential influence of participation motivations on information search patterns and the practical implications for the design of online communities.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the buckling characteristics of rigidly-jointed single-layer latticed domes with square network by using the experimental and the theoretical techniques in order to develop a reasonable method of theoretical analysis for these domes. Two methods of theoretical analysis are applied; one is based on the Yamada's method of shell analogy and the other is based on the frame analysis method using the finite element method. The effects of the nonuniformity of rigidity-distribution in the circumferential direction and the rigidity of the covering material on both the prebuckling and the buckling characteristics are examined. The results indicate that these effects should be considered reasonably in the theoretical analyses.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the users' stress and using reluctant intention to use social network service(SNS). This study especially focused on stress of SNSs' user. Because SNS has led to negative effects such as invasion of privacy, addiction and social overload recently. In addition, adverse effects of SNS had caused SNSs' user to feel stress and fatigue. Design/methodology/approach This study developed hypotheses to empirically examine the factors that affect SNS users' stress and using reluctant intention. In order to verify research hypotheses, this study collected data from 362 users who currently use the SNS in Korea. Further, we used the smartPLS analysis. Findings The results of this study are as follows; First, reputation perception, unwanted relation burden, privacy concern, information overload and interaction overload had a significant positive effect on SNS users' stress. But international influence had no significant positive effect on SNS users' stress. Second, SNS users' stress had a significant positive effect on using reluctant intention. The results of this study provides theoretical foundations on the research for dark side of SNS and implies that SNS providers are in need of exerting an effort to minimize the negative aspects.

  • Recently, mobile internet technologies are enabling the possibility of radically new computing services which can share information and communicate with others on the move. In this situation, prior studies have attempted to identify of what factors make people use mobile internet. However, prior researches focused on investigating the factors affecting users' adoption to Mobile Internet. In order to offer beneficial materials to mobile internet companies, we investigated important factors to increase mobile users' value from the viewpoints of customer. In particular, this study was progressed how characteristics of mobile contents affect users' intrinsic attributes and how perceived users' network effects affect users' value in the mobile computing environments. To empirically test proposed hypotheses, we have analyzed 285 survey data gathering from mobile internet users and verified hypotheses by using SEM (structural equation modeling). Based on the results of this study, we found that content accessibility and content quality have significant impacts on users' intrinsic attributes such as perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment. In addition, this study also revealed that perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment were positively related to users' emotional value. Moreover, this study found that perceived users' network effects could affect users' monetary value by mediating expected benefits. Based on our findings, we can understand that this perspective can provide a deeper understanding of the mobile users' value adoption by bridging the gap between mobile internet studies and actual practice.

  • Social capital theory provides a framework for analyzing the economic well-being. The purpose of this study is to analyze the age effect of social capital by comparing middle aged and the elderly, as well as to investigate the independent effects of social capital on their subjective economic well-being, respectively. The two concepts of "trust" and "social network" were used to measure the level of social capital. Comparisons between the age groups were made regarding the relationships between social capital and economic well-being of four age groups, including younger middle-aged, older middle-aged, younger elderly, and older elderly. Data from the $2^{nd}$ wave of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA) were used. The final sample for this analysis is 8,406 respondents aged 45~84. The major findings are as follows. First, the level of social capital, trust and social network, is statistically different by age groups. Second, the model fits in the case of model including social capital variables are all larger than their counterparts in the four age groups. Third, social capital is "resource" that can contribute to increasing the subjective economic well-being. Based on the empirical results, implications for welfare policies related with issues of social security for the elderly in Korea are provided.

  • In this article, we model the distributed relay assignment network as a many-to-one matching market with peer effects. We discuss two scenarios for throughput optimization of relay networks: the scenario of aggregate throughput optimization and the scenario of fairness performance optimization. For the first scenario, we propose a Mutual Benefit-based Deferred Acceptance (MBDA) algorithm to increase the aggregate network throughput. For the second scenario, instead of using the alternative matching scheme, a non-substitution matching algorithm (NSA) is designed to solve the fairness problem. The NSA improves the fairness performance. We prove that both two algorithms converge to a globally stable matching, and discuss the practical implementation. Simulation results show that the performance of MBDA algorithm outperforms existing schemes and is almost the same with the optimal solution in terms of aggregate throughput. Meanwhile, the proposed NSA improves fairness as the scale of the relay network expands.

  • This paper analyzed the delay characteristics of speech packets in virtual cellular network(VCN). The probability distribution of packet delay is obtained using the markov chain model when periodic speech packets are transmitted by slotted-ALOHA protocol. The effects of probility of capture and retransmission policy on the performance were also analyzed. At first, the probability cumulative function of packet delay is calculated from the probability of capture as a function of location of mobile terminal. In order to investigate the effects of backoff delay, we defined a parameter NPr, where N is the period (frame size) of the speech packets and Pr is the retransmission probability for each speech packet. We also obtained the 1% outage delay for various frame size N.

  • In respect of consuming energy, the optimization is the main objective in the solar energy harvesting sensor system (while battery-based sensor system aims at the minimization), due to the periodicity of solar energy. Aimed at the optimization of the network topology, we suggest 3-level transmission power control algorithm of which level is determined by the amount of residual energy on the rechargeable battery. Additionally, we experiment the effects of our scheme on network-wide performance such as the latency and the duty-cycle, and verify that our scheme shows the best performance in most of the metrics, compared to the schemes with fixed transmission power.

  • This study investigates the relationship between venture capital (hereafter, VC) syndicate diversity and the IPO performance of an entrepreneurial company backed by the syndicate. Specifically, focusing on three types of diversity within a VC syndicate, which are aligned with Harrison and Klein's seminal categorization in 2007 (i.e., separation, variety, and disparity), this study suggests their distinct effects on performance. Two stage least square analyses with 1,127 VC syndicate investments made by 6,268 VC firms strongly supported the hypotheses. The results showed that that capacity diversity decreases the performance and that expertise diversity and network diversity increase it.
