  • Nowadays, distributed mobility management (DMM) approaches have been widely adopted to address the limitations of centralized architectural methods to support seamless data transmission schemes in wireless sensor networks. This paper deals with the end-to-end (E2E) integration of Network Mobility (NEMO) basic support protocol in distributed wireless sensor network systems in structural health and environmental monitoring of social overhead capital (SOC) public infrastructures such as bridges, national highways, tunnels, and railroads. The proposed scheme takes advantage of the features of both the NEMO basic support protocol and partially distributed network-based DMM framework in providing seamless data transmission and robust mobility support. The E2E seamless data transmission scheme allows mobile users to roam from fixed-point network access locations and mobile platforms (i.e., vehicles such as cars, buses, and trains) without disconnecting its current sessions (i.e., seamless handover).

  • The efficiency and safety of social-overhead capital (SOC) public infrastructures have become an eminent social concern. In this regard, a continuous structural health monitoring has been widely implemented to oversee the robustness of such public infrastructures for the safety of the public. This paper deals with the analysis of a distributed mobility management (DMM) support for wireless sensor network (WSN) based information transmission system. The partial DMM support separates the data and control plane infrastructures, wherein, the control plane is managed by a particular mobility management network entity, while the data plane is distributed by the mobility anchors. The system will be able to optimize the information transmission for a wireless structural health monitoring of SOC public infrastructures specifically designed for bridges, and thus, guarantees the safety of public commuters.

  • Network human-robot interface is an important research topic. In home application, users access the robotic system directly via voice, gestures or through the network. Users explore a system by using the services provided by this system and to some extend users are enable to participate in a service as partners. A service may be provided by a robot, a group of robots or robots and other network connected systems (distributed sensors, information systems, etc). All these services are done in the network environment, where uncertainty such as the unstable network connection, the availability of the partners in a service, exists. Moreover, these services are controlled by several users, accessing at different time by different methods. Our research aimed at solving this problem to provide a high available level, flexible coordination system. In this paper, a multi-agent framework is proposed. This framework is validated by using our new concept of slave agents, a responsive multi-agent environment, a virtual directory facilitator (VDF), and a task allocation system using contract net protocol. Our system uses a mixed model between distributed and centralized model. It uses a centralized agent management system (AMS) to control the overall system. However, the partners and users may be distributed agents connected to the center through agent communication or centralized at the AMS container using the slave agents to represent the physical agents. The system is able to determine the task allocation for a group of robot working as a team to provide a service. A number of experiments have been conducted successfully in our lab environment using Issac robot, a PDA for user agent and a wireless network system, operated under our multi agent framework control. The experiments show that this framework works well and provides some advantages to existing systems.

Abstract Recently, due to the rapid development of network technology, the need for the network management appeared. So two representative standardards, SNMP and CMIP, have been applied to many network management system. But the more complex and vaious network are constructed, the demand for more efficient network management technology grew bigger. Currently, TMN technology is beginning to be widely applied to the management of networks. CORBA has been widely adopted for developing distributed systems in many areas of information technology. CORBA provides the infrastructure for the interoperability of various object-oriented management applications in a distributed environment, and, recently there have been world-wide research for the integration of CORBA within a TMN framework. Many attempts have been made to enable network management using CORBA techonology and some are working on already. This paper defines the architecture for integrated network management based on current CORBA/TMN integration technologies and then presents the design and implementation for alarm surveillance system which was applied to the defined architecture. The prototype implementation was done using IONA orbix. The proposed integrated network management framework will provide users with consistent management operations and ability to manage complex and various networks and to gather statistical data from those networks.

  • As distributed systems become used in wider area of applications, many works has been done to invent more efficient way to manage the distributed systems. The client-server based distributed system management by using SNMP or CMIP has many problems such as scalability, interoperability, flexibility, and so on. Recently, it is evident that managing distributed systems using mobile agents have popularity, and the Java language helps the trend. However, the improvement of performance has to be analyzed when the mechanism of mobile agent is applied In this paper, we discuss a more efficient way to make use of the mobile agent mechanism for managing distributed systems, and propose an Agent-On-Demand (AOD) method. The core of the method is not to use the previous method that mobile agents doing management job is dispatched to the managed nodes by a manager application, but to make agents requested by the managed nodes and then the manager application send the requested agents to that nodes. This process is done through Hierarchical State Threshold (HST). Also we present a performance model for Java RMI and mobile agent, and compare the AOD method with the previous work in terms of network overhead and execution time.

  • Advances in computer and network technology provide new computing environment that were only possible with supercomputers before. In order to provide the environment, a distributed runtime system has to be provided, but most of the conventional distributed runtime systems lack in providing dynamic and flexible system reconfiguration depending on workload variance, due to a static architecture of fixed master node and slave working nodes. This paper proposes and implements a new model for distributed job allocation and management which is a distributed runtime system is P2P environment for flexible and dynamic system reconfiguration. The implemented systems enables job program transfer and management, remote compile and execution among cooperative developers based on P2P standard protocol Jxta platform. Since it makes dynamic and flexible system reconfiguration possible, the proposed method has some advantages in that it can collect and utilize idle computing resources immediately at a needed time for distributed job processing. Moreover, the implemented system's effectiveness and performance increase are shown by applying and processing the crawler jobs, in a distributed way, for collecting a large amount of data needed for internet search.

  • Active networks not only allows the network nodes, switches or routers. to perform routing and forwarding but so allows their users inject customized programs into the nodes of the network or the packets. that may modify, store or redirect the user data flowing through the network. In this paper, we proposed a new network management system built using active network technology, that can solve problems inherent in most of existing legacy centralized network management systems. The main contribution is to present the Smart Router model that can reduce traffics due to managing networks by way of making control packets into simplified patterns. The disadvantages of the centralized network management are presented and the current solution for distributed network management are discussed. The performance improvements that our architecture offers are showed through a service example experiment.

  • Wireless access technologies are emerging to enable high data rates for mobile users and novel applications that encompass both human and machine-type interactions. An essential approach to meet the rising demands on network capacity and offer high coverage for wireless users on upcoming fifth generation (5G) networks is heterogeneous networks (HetNets), which are generated by combining the installation of macro cells with a large number of densely distributed small cells Deployment in 5G architecture has several issues because to the rising complexity of network topology in 5G HetNets with many distinct base station types. Aside from the numerous benefits that dense small cell deployment delivers, it also introduces key mobility management issues such as frequent handover (HO), failures, delays and pingpong HO. This article investigates 5G HetNet mobility management in terms of radio resource control. This article also discusses the key challenges for 5G mobility management.

  • As the size and complexity of networks increase, it is difficult to manage the whole network using single network manager, thus it is more resonable to manage the network using several network managers distributed on the network. Security interoperability should be supported among network management systems (NMSs)that use different management policies. In this paper, an algorithm that makes it posible to take a role into a role lattices is suggested to provide security interoperability among NMSs that have their own role lattices. In addition, security constraints are proposed to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of information by dynamically modifying the access rights of roles as the state of a system changes. Also, the security constraints are expressed using ECA rules in this paper.
