  • This study was conducted to evaluate maize downy mildew resistance using spreader row technique in Cambodia. A total of forty maize lines were used in this experiment. Seven Korean varieties and seven breeding lines showed high infection rates (80~100%) and highly susceptible (HS) to downy mildew disease in both spring and fall. Also most of nested association mapping (NAM) parent lines were highly susceptible (HS). Meanwhile three inbred lines, Ki3, Ki11, and CML228, showed highly resistant (HR) or resistant (R) in spring and moderately resistant (MR) in fall. These three lines were already known as resistant inbred lines against downy mildew disease. It appears that spreader row technique was suitable for selection of maize downy mildew resistance in Cambodia. The incidence of downy mildew was influenced by weather conditions, especially relative humidity and temperature. Among several inoculation methods to screen for downy mildew resistance, this spreader row technique is effectively and easily used in the field of Southeast Asia.

  • Detecting data races is important for debugging programs with OpenMP directives, because races result in unintended non-deterministic executions of the program. It is especially important to detect the first data races to occur for effective debugging, because the removal of such races may make other affected races disappear or appear. The previous tools for race detecting can not guarantee that detected races are the first races to occur. This paper suggests a tool what detects the first races to occur on the program with nested parallelism using the two-pass on-the-fly technique. To show functionality of this tool, we empirically compare with the previous tools using a set of the synthetic programs with OpenMP directives.

  • This paper presents a novel seven-level (7L) voltage source converter for high-power medium-voltage applications. The proposed topology is an H-bridge connection of two nested neutral-point clamped (NNPC) converters and is referred to as an HNNPC converter. This converter exhibits advantageous features, such as operating over a wide range of output voltages, particularly for 10-15 kV applications, without the need to connect power semiconductors in series; high-quality output voltage; and fewer components relative to other classic seven-level topologies. A novel sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique is also developed for the proposed 7L-HNNPC converter to control flying capacitor voltages. One of the main features of the control strategy is the independent application of control to each arm of the converter to significantly reduce the complexity of the controller. The performance of the proposed converter is studied under different operating conditions via MATLAB/Simulink simulation, and its feasibility is evaluated experimentally on a scaled-down prototype converter.

  • In the present study, we develop two history matching techniques based on Markov chain Monte Carlo method where radial basis function and Gaussian distribution generated by unconditional geostatistical simulation are employed as the random walk transition kernels. The Bayesian inverse methods for aquifer characterization as the developed models can be effectively applied to the condition even when the targeted information such as hydraulic conductivity is absent and there are transient hydraulic head records due to imposed stress at observation wells. The model which uses unconditional simulation as random walk transition kernel has advantage in that spatial statistics can be directly associated with the predictions. The model using radial basis function network shares the same advantages as the model with unconditional simulation, yet the radial basis function network based the model does not require external geostatistical techniques. Also, by employing radial basis function as transition kernel, multi-scale nested structures can be rigorously addressed. In the validations of the developed models, the overall predictabilities of both models are sound by showing high correlation coefficient between the reference and the predicted. In terms of the model performance, the model with radial basis function network has higher error reduction rate and computational efficiency than with unconditional geostatistical simulation.

  • The development of wireless network technology and the increasing use of wireless networks to mobile users with a variety of wireless network systems has arisen. Wireless sensor networks, they can be nested together, and the need to switch between the network, depending on your needs. Next Generation Wireless Networks(NGWN) gives the mobile user a wide coverage and optimized service etc. Previous hand off management protocol is not enough to secure support of the NGWN application program. Cross-layer Handoff(CLH) protocol technique has been developed to support between and inside networks of handoff management of NGWN. CLH supports mobility management in a wireless network environment and also utilizes mobility speed and handoff signaling delay information to improve the handoff performance ability. For the analysis of handoff performance ability, we analyzed sensitivity of link layer and network layer, therefore, CLH technique is suggested based on this analysis.

  • In big data analysis, raw text data mostly exists in various unstructured data forms, so it becomes a structured data form that can be analyzed only after undergoing heuristic pre-processing and computer post-processing cleansing. Therefore, in this study, unnecessary elements are purified through pre-processing of the collected raw data in order to apply the wordcloud of R program, which is one of the text data analysis techniques, and stopwords are removed in the post-processing process. Then, a case study of wordcloud analysis was conducted, which calculates the frequency of occurrence of words and expresses words with high frequency as key issues. In this study, to improve the problems of the "nested stopword source code" method, which is the existing stopword processing method, using the word cloud technique of R, we propose the use of "general stopword corpus" and "user-defined stopword corpus" and conduct case analysis. The advantages and disadvantages of the proposed "unstructured data cleansing process model" are comparatively verified and presented, and the practical application of word cloud visualization analysis using the "proposed external corpus cleansing technique" is presented.

  • In the Unix-like system environment, the GOT overwrite attack is one of the traditional control flow hijacking techniques for exploiting software privileges. Several techniques have been proposed to defend against the GOT overwrite attack, and among them, the Full Relro(Relocation Read only) technique, which blocks GOT overwrites at runtime by arranging the GOT section as read-only in the program startup, has been known as the most effective defense technique. However, it entails loading delay, which limits its application to a program sensitive to startup performance, and it is not currently applied to the library due to problems including a chain loading delay problem caused by nested library dependency. Also, many compilers, including LLVM, do not apply the Full Relro technique by default, so runtime programs are still vulnerable to GOT attacks. In this paper, we propose a GOT protection scheme using the Control Flow Integrity(CFI) technique, which is currently recognized as the most suitable technique for defense against code reuse attacks. We implemented this scheme based on LLVM and applied it to the binutils-gdb program group to evaluate security, performance and compatibility. The GOT protection scheme with CFI is difficult to bypass, fast, and compatible with existing library programs.

  • Morphological observation of roots and molecular technique were used to investigate the symbiotic relationships between arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi and ginseng roots. Korean ginseng, Panax ginseng, was collected from 8 sites in Korea. Colonization pattern of AM fungi in ginseng roots was determined as an Arum type under light microscopes. Nested PCR using AM fungal specific primers was employed to amplify a partial region on 18s rDNA of AM fungi from the root extracted mixed DNA. The amplified DNA was cloned and analyzed by random fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) with restriction enzymes, AluI, HinfI and AsuC21. One from each RFLP pattern was selected for sequencing. A total 16 clones were sequenced and identified as 2 species of AM fungi; Paraglomus brasilianum and Glomus spurcum. Paramglomus brasilianum was found from most of the ginseng roots, in this syudy suggesting that this species of AM fungi could have specific relationship with the ginseng root. Possible roles of AM fungal species in ginseng roots are discussed.

  • Insertional mutagenesis induced by T-DNA or transposon tagging offers possibilities for analysis of gene function. However, its potential remains limited unless good methods for detecting the target locus are developed. We describe a PCR technique for efficient identification of DNA sequences adjacent to the inserted T-DNA in a higher plant, Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis). This strategy, which we named variable argument thermal asymmetric interlaced PCR (VA-TAIL PCR), was designed by modifying a single-step annealing-extension PCR by including a touch-up PCR protocol and using long gene-specific primers. Amplification efficiency of this PCR program was significantly increased by employing an autosegment extension method and linked sequence strategy in nested long gene-specific primers. For this technique, arbitrary degenerate (AD) primers specific to B. rapa were designed by analyzing the Integr8 proteome database. These primers showed higher accuracy and utility in the identification of flanking DNA sequences from individual transgenic Chinese cabbages in a large T-DNA inserted population. The VA-TAIL PCR method described in this study allows the identification of DNA regions flanking known DNA fragments. This method has potential biotechnological applications, being highly suitable for identification of target genomic loci in insertional mutagenesis screens.

  • Dual-layer differential codebook using 8-PSK (phase shift keying) constellation as its codeword elements, is proposed for Long term evolution (LTE) and/or LTE-Advanced systems. Due to the temporal correlation of the adjacent channel matrices, the consecutive precoding matrices are likely to be similar. This approach quantize only the differential information of the channel instead of the whole channel subspace, which virtually increase the codebook size to realize more accurate quantization of the channel. Especially, the proposed codebook has the same properties of LTE release-8 codebook that is, constant modulus, complexity reduction, and nested property. The mobile station can be designed by using less expensive non-linear amplifier utilizing constant modulus property. Computer simulations show that the capacity of the proposed dual-layer codebook performs almost 1.2dB better than those of any other non-differential codebooks with the same amount of feedback information.
