Relationship between Perceived Neighborhood Characteristics and Vigorous Physical Activity among Adult Seoul Residents

  • Objectives : Vigorous physical activity is a well-known method to promote people s health. This research aims to investigate whether perceived neighborhood characteristics affect vigorous physical activity among adult Seoul residents (aged 19 to 64). Methods : Utilizing the 2005 Seoul Citizens Health Indicators Survey data, this study estimates the probability of vigorous physical activity. Particular attention is given to the effects of three perceived neighborhood characteristics satisfaction with relationship to the neighborhood, satisfaction with park and recreational facilities, and satisfaction with public security). Logistic regression models are analyzed separately by gender for the parameter estimation. Results : Vigorous physical activity is positively associated with three perceived neighborhood characteristics for women, while neither significant nor substantive association is found for men. Conclusions : As vigorous physical activity among Seoul citizens is differentially affected by perceived neighborhood characteristics and by gender, a different approach will be needed to increase vigorous physical activity of men and women in Seoul.

온라인 커뮤니티를 매개로한 공동체가 근린관계에 미치는 영향 - 목동 'The Sharp' 공동주택 중심으로 (The Effect of Internet Community on the Neighborhood Relationship - Case study of Mokdong 'The Sharp' apartment area)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 공동주택 단지 내 커뮤니케이션 수단으로 채팅, 게시판 카페 등과 같은 온라인 커뮤니티가 근린공동체관계에 미치는 영향을 분석하는데 있다. 근린관계의 다양한 요소를 도출하여 주민들의 근린관계 의식 및 공동체적 활동이 온라인 커뮤니티의 활성화와 관계되어 있는지를 관찰조사와 설문조사를 통하여 분석하였다. 온라인 커뮤니티 이용자와 비이용자의 근린관계특성을 비교분석하였고 근린 공통체관계에 미치는 요인들을 회귀분석을 통하여 살펴보았다. 분석결과를 통하여 온라인 커뮤니티를 이용하는 주민은 상대적으로 이웃과 자신의 감정이나 생각, 정보 등을 원활히 교류할 수 있어 주거단지 내 근린관계 수준을 높이는 것으로 해석되었다. 공동주택 내 단절되어 가는 이웃관계를 개선시키기 위해 공동주택 계획의 중요한 요소로서 온라인 커뮤니티가 다루어질 필요가 있다. 본 연구가 공동주택 내 범죄와 사고에 대한 예방과 해결을 위한 향후연구에 기초자료로서 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

인지된 동네 무질서가 청소년의 문제행동에 미치는 영향 -청소년의 부모관계 스트레스의 매개효과- (The effects of perceived neighborhood disorder on problem behavior among adolescents -The mediating effects of parent-child stress-)

  • 본 연구는 청소년의 부모관계 스트레스가 인지된 동네 무질서와 문제행동의 관계를 매개하는지 검증하기 위해 수행되었다. 이에 대한 연구 가설은 관련 선행연구와 Pearlin(1999)의 스트레스 과정 모델을 기초로 설정되었다. 활용된 자료는 한국청소년정책연구원의 '한국청소년패널조사(KYPS) 중2 패널 4차년도 데이터'이며, 연구대상은 2,301명의 만16세~만18세 청소년이었다. 가설검증을 위해 Baron과 Kenny(1986)의 분석방법에 따라 회귀분석 및 Sobel test를 실시하고, 추가적으로 Hayes(2013)의 'PROCESS procedure for SPSS' macro를 활용하여 부트스트래핑(bootstrapping)을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 청소년의 부모관계 스트레스는 인지된 동네 무질서와 문제행동을 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 인지된 동네 무질서의 수준이 높을수록 청소년은 불안 우울과 공격성을 더 경험하는 것으로 나타났으며, 인지된 동네 무질서의 수준이 높을수록 부모관계 스트레스의 수준이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 인지된 동네 무질서가 통제된 상태에서, 부모관계 스트레스 수준이 높을수록 청소년의 불안 우울과 공격성의 수준이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. Sobel test 및 부트스트래핑 실시 결과, 청소년의 부모관계 스트레스는 인지된 동네 무질서와 불안 우울의 관계, 인지된 동네 무질서와 공격성의 관계를 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 따라, 사회복지적인 관점에서 청소년 문제행동을 예방하고 완화하기 위한 연구의 함의와 한계가 논의되었다.

The Impact of Neighborhood Settings on Peer Risks among Delinquent Adolescents

  • The main purpose of this study was to identify the impact of neighborhood settings on peer risks experienced by delinquent adolescents. A convenience sample of 1,086 youth who came to the attention of four county juvenile courts was used for the present study. The peer risk levels were measured through use of version 1.0 of the Global Risk Assessment Device (GRAD); in addition, neighborhood information obtained from the National Census was utilized. The results of the HLM demonstrated that there were significant between-neighborhood variations in peer risks and the neighborhood economic disadvantage variable was associated with peer risks after controlling for the variables of individual characteristics. The findings of this study add to the literature on juvenile delinquency by providing empirical support for the proposed model that illustrates the significant relationship between a neighborhood setting indicator and peer risks experienced by delinquent adolescents when practicing treatment or intervention programs with delinquent adolescents.

  • The sutdy is to investigate the variables that influenced on territoriality$.$privacy and to find the relation between territoriality$.$privacy and self-identity. Data were collected from 342 homemakers in Pusan. Data were analysed by SPSS programs. To test hypotheses frequency, correlation and Multiple Regression (Path Analysis) were applied. The results were as follows: 1. The significant variales that influenced on territoriality were space occupancy level, SES and neighborhood relationship. 2. The significant variables that influenced on privacy were space occupancy level, SES and neighborhood relationship. 3. The significant variables that influenced on self-identity were territoriality, privacy, neighborhood relationship, housing ownership, space occupancy level and SES.

공동주거단지 개발에 따른 주변지역 거주자의 근린의식 특성에 관한 연구 - 광주광역시 사례를 중심으로 - (Study on the Characteristics of the Residents' Sense of Neighborhood in the Surrounding Area after the Housing Complex Development - Focused on the Cases in Gwang-Ju -)

  • This study aims to examine the characteristics of the changes in residents' perception of neighborhood and sense of neighborhood according to the residential structural changes caused by city renewal projects such as old urban large redevelopment. Research findings benefits of the residential environment changes after the development are environment improvement, convenient traffic, leisure activity increase, and green area increase, whereas their drawbacks are encroachment of sunshine and view, However, with the regard to the relationship with neighbors, paired-sample t-test results showed there were no statistically significant differences between before and after the development. It appeared to be that the community residential complex development did not influence the relationship with neighbors. ANOVA was used to examine the differences in the neighborhood perception among age categories. The results showed that there were no differences between age groups but when there were changes in their life cycle, residents showed differences in their neighborhood perception among age groups. The neighborhood perception was measured on 5-point Likert Scale in four factors of intimacy, participation, reliability, and group identity. The perception decreased somewhat after the development and the group identity, especially, showed a significant difference (p<.001). This was considered to be caused by a sense of incongruity due to the influx of different social-economic groups.

한국 도시동네의 형태변화 모델 - 동네의 성장과 교육시설과의 관계를 중심으로 - (A Development Model of Korean Urban Neighborhood: - focusing on the Neighborhood Growth and the Educational Facility -)

  • This study aims to propose a hypothetical urban neighborhood, HanGyo-dong, which is a model for understanding the relationship between the neighborhood change and educational facilities. Three issue layers of the model derived from preceding case studies are: establishment, relocation and redevelopment of educational facilities; formation and redevelopment of adjacent residential areas; and growth of neighborhood commercial cores. The neighborhood changes observed through HanGyo-dong include (1) the formation of educational base and commercial activities along the stream, (2) the growth of student and intellectual community and the installment of public transportation nodes, and (3) the relocation of schools and hospitals followed by a series of redevelopments of single family house into multi-family housing of low-rise residence and high rise apartment complex. The findings call for the collaborative practice of educational administration and neighborhood planning regarding how educational facilities, which were the tool for urban expansion policy, will contribute to the development of the neighborhood's identity as a localized hub.

서울지역 노인들의 근린시설 이용실태와 근접정도에 대한 분석 (The analysis of elderly using behavior and propinquity of neighborhood facilities)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine elderly using behavior and propinquity of neighborhood facilities and to analyze the relationship of propinquity and using behavior of each neighborhood facility. The results of the study indicated that the elderly are using more frequently and living more close to leisure facility such as sports/health facility, hobby/education facility, and entertainment facility. Age and health status of the elderly were the important factors on the use and propinquity of neighborhood facilities. On the other hand, the elderly having higher education and economic status were more likely to use and live close to leisure facilities. For the elderly, the need of physical propinquity to neighborhood facilities and providing information about the facility location were required. For the mid-aged people, the education about leisure culture of the later-hood years were suggested since the use of neighborhood facility is depending on one's habit.

아파트 거주자의 근린 스트레스에 관한 연구 (A Study on The Neighborhood stress of Residents Living in Apartment)

  • The purpose of this study is to find a better residential plan from the results of apartment residents various forms of stress caused by their neighborhood. The major findings are as follows ; 1) This study finds privacy, noise from children, rules & morality, noise sounds by indoor life, and relationship between neighborhood as 5 main factor of apartment residents stress. 2) This study concludes that the stress caused by neighborhood have similar results by socio-demographis, housing-related, and social-psychological variables. 3) The problems caused by neighborhood noise is very serious ones of apartment residents. This study also finds that neighborhood who have more than average visit feel more stress.
