The object of this study is to explore the attitudes of occupational therapy students and "general students" (who study in different areas other than occupational therapy) towards people with disabilities, and to examine the causing factors of positive and negative attitudes toward people with disabilities by using Disability Factor Scales (DFS). According to the result of the study using the Disability Factor Scales (DFS), it indicates that the attitudes of the occupational therapy students were more positive than those of "general students" from other departments. In the case of score differences among occupational therapy students by class standing, seniors who experienced clinical practice showed a less favorable attitude toward the disabled than freshmen, so it is necessary to develop clinical practice and an occupational therapy curricula that incorporate patient-centered treatment rather than therapist-centered education with simple physical contact or illness problems.
The purpose of this study was to establish the reliability and validity of the passive lumbar extension (PLE) test and prone instability test (PIT). Thirty-three subjects (14 males, 19 females) with lower back pain enrolled in the study and the subjects were divided into 2 groups (positive and negative instability groups) on the basis of radiographies of flexion and extension. Reliability was determined by the kappa coefficient and validity was examined using calculated sensitivity, specificity, and the likelihood ratio. The results showed that the reliability of the PLE test was higher than the PIT (intra-rater reliability: k=.86 and k=.81, interrater reliability: k=.65 and k=.62) and the validity of the PLE test was also higher than the PIT (sensitivity: 91% and 62%, specificity: 95% and 85% positive likelihood ratio: 20.00 and 4.10, negative likelihood ratio: .10 and .45). In conclusion, we think that the PLE test was a more reliable and valid method for lumbar instability than the PIT.
Purpose: This study investigated whether the strength imbalance between two muscles can affect the score of EMG based biofeedback game, and whether the EMG based biofeedback game score can be used as predictable indicator of the degree of muscle balance alternating the conventional strength measuring equipment. Methods: 40 participated in this study. Biodex was used to measure the peak torque/weight in order to calculate the muscle strength balance index between plantar flexor and dorsiflexor of ankle joint. And muscle balance index (MBI) was calculated. The EMG biofeedback game scores of dorsiflexor and plantar flexor were acquired, so that the EMG electrodes were attached at tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius. The relationship between the game score and the muscle balance index were analyzed. Results: There was negative correlation between the muscle balance index between plantar flexor and dorsiflexor and the peak torque/weight of plantar flexor (r=-0.70). And there was negative correlation between the muscle balance index between plantar flexor and dorsiflexor and the game score of plantar flexor (r=-0.83). Conclusion: The EMG biofeedback game score had significant relationship with muscle imbalance at ankle joint, so it seems that the game score can be used for predicting the degree of muscle imbalance as a parameter.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary compliance and related variables in NIDDM patients. One hundred and fourteen patients at two hospitals in Seoul were interviewed and height, body weight, family history and postprandial blood glucose were analyzed statistically along with the dietary practices. 1) When the degree of dietary compliance was expressed as Tunbridge score, 75% was grouped as satisfactory, 9.7% as Tolerable, and 14.9% belonged to Hopeless group. 2) Calorie intake of the subjects was lower then RDA. Carbohydrate, fat, and protein contributed each 60 : 22 :18. When SFA was used 1, the relative ratio of PUFA : MUFA : SFA was 0.8 : 1.2 : 1. 3) The mean score of knowledge test on diet therapy was 5.6$\pm$2.9 out of possible 12.0 points. 4) Age had significant positive correlation with duration of diabetes(p<0.001), and significant negative correlation with scores of knowledge test on diet therapy was observed(p<0.001). 5) The difference of actual and prescribed calorie intake had positive correlation with PP2 blood glucose level(p<0.05), and significant negative correlation with age(p<0.05). 6) Statiscally significant variables on the practice of diet therapy were the present body weight, protein and carbohydrate intake, age, and sex.

Background: The purpose of this study is to analysis of correlation upper body according to forward head posture. Methods: The subjects of this study were 40 female university students who were equally and randomly allocated to a forward head posture group, normal group. Using general posture system, electromyograph, visual analogue scale, tape measurement, neck disability index were evaluated. Results: There was positive correlation between posture analysis and Sternocleidomastoid, neck flexion (p<.05). There was positive correlation between Craniovertebral angle (CVA) and trapezius upper, VAS (p<.05). There was negative correlation between posture analysis and CVA (p<.05). There was negative correlation between Cranial rotation angle and CVA (p<.05). Conclusion: Increased forward head posture lead to increase of pain, muscles activity, so it suggests to be necessary on the prevention of dysfunction and limited activities daily living.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of auricular acupressure therapy on dysmenorrhea of puberty girls. Methods: This study was a pretest-posttest design with a nonequivalent control group. The subjects of this study were 61 girls who were middle and high school students in Seoul and the experiencing dysmenorrhea; 31 for the experimental group and 30 for the control group. The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Results: The experimental group which applied the auricular acupressure therapy scored lower for low abdominal pain (F=136.13, p=.000), low back pain (F=62.79, p=.000). autonomic nervous system reactions (F=102.31, p=.000) and negative emotions on the menstruation (F=102.31, p=.000) compared to the control group. There were significant interaction effects of auricular acupressure on low abdominal pain, low back pain, autonomic nervous system reactions, and negative emotions on the menstruation between time and group. Conclusion: We observed that auricular acupressure therapy is effective for reliving pain and the symptom of dysmenorrhea. Based on these result, auricular acupuncture is useful by individual nursing intervention and improves the quality of life for dysmenorrhea of puberty girls.
Background: The phosphatidylinositol 3'-kinase/Akt (PI3K/Akt) pathway is a key regulator for HER2-overexpressing breast cancer, but data about whether activation of PI3K/Akt is associated with poor prognosis and resistance to trastuzumab therapy is controversial. In this study we investigated predictive and prognostic significance of expression of p27, Akt, PTEN and PI3K, which are components of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, in HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (MBC), retrospectively. Materials and Methods: Fifty-four HER2-positive MBC patients who had received first-line trastuzumab-based therapy were recruited for the study group. All of the patient's breast tissue samples were examined for p27 and Akt expression. In addition, twenty-five patients with sufficient amount of tumor tissue were also examined for PTEN and PI3K expression. p27, Akt, PTEN and PI3K were evaluated by immunohistochemistry and their relationship with patient demographic features, tumor characteristics, response to trastuzumab-based treatment and survival outcomes were analyzed. Results: p27, Akt, PTEN and PI3K were positive in 25.9%, 70.4%, 24% and 96% of the cases, respectively. Nomne were significantly associated with response to trastuzumab and time to progression (TTP). A trend toward statistical significance for longer overall survival (OS) was found for PTEN-positive patients (p=0.058); there was no significant relationship between the other immunohistochemical variables and OS. When we analyzed groups regarding co-expression, the PTEN-negative/Akt-negative group had a significantly lower objective response rate (ORR) (20% vs 80%, p=0.023) and the PTEN-negative/p27-negative and PTEN-negative/Akt-negative groups had significantly lower median OS compared to other patients (26.4 months vs 76.1 months, p=0.005 and 25.6 months vs 52.0 months, p=0.007, respectively). Conclusions: p27, Akt, PTEN and PI3K expression is not statistically significantly associated with ORR, TTP and OS, individually. However, the combined evaluation of p27, Akt and PTEN could be helpful to predict the response to trastuzumab-based therapy and prognosis in HER2-positive MBC.
This study was conducted in order to inquire into the impact of children's self-concept construction and ego-development enhancement during Group Sandplay Therapy. The Group Sandplay Therapy sessions were held once week, for a total of 20 weeks. The Group Sandplay Therapy Process consisted of playing with sand and creating a sand tray in groups. There were two group in total. Each group had 4 children of the same sex aged from six to seven years old. In order to study the self-concept and ego-development, we used a self-concept test and ego-development as a research tool. In addition, the present research analyzed any changes which tool place by dividing each aspect in each sand tray of the therapy process into a positive subject and a negative subject, and analyzed the changing patterns seen in the sand tray worldas it unfolded. It was proven that an efficient treatment in changing the sand tray world and children's action, had an effect on rearranging the children's mental schemas. In terms of the progress of the sandplay journey, it was seen that negative elements decreased dramatically and positive elements were observed to have increased. As a result it was confirmed that Group Sandplay Therapy had a number of positive effects in the construction of children's self-concept and in terms of the enhancement of children ego-development.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes of the tooth mobility and maximal bite force over 4 weeks following initial therapy on the periodontal disease. Tooth mobility and maximal bite force due to change of viscoelastic property of periodontium were influenced by inflammation of periodontal tissue. 10 patients with the chronic adult periodontitis participated in this study. Each tooth was divided into anterior areas, premolar areas and molar areas. Tooth mobility was tested using Periotest(Siemens Co. Germany) and maximal bite force was evaluated with MPM-3000(Nihon kohden Co. Japan). Tooth mobility and maximal bite force were recorded at the initial examination, 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks following initial therapy. All data were analyzed statistically. The obtained results were as follows ; 1. The changes of the tooth mobility following initial therapy were generally decreased in maxilla, showing the significant decrease at 1 and 4 weeks on premolar areas (p<0. 05). 2. The changes of the tooth mobility following initial therapy were generally decreased in mandible, however this changes were not statistically significant. 3. The changes of the maximal bite force following initial therapy in maxilla were significantly increased at 3 and 4 weeks on anterior areas, at 4 weeks on premolar areas (p<0. 05). These were decreased at 1 week on molar areas, but generally increasing with time. 4. The changes of the maximal bite force following initial therapy in mandible were significantly increased at 3 and 4 weeks on anterior areas (p<0. 05, p<0. 01). These were decreased at 1 week on premolar but molar areas, and generally increasing with time. 5. As tooth mobility increased, maximal bite force decreased with significance (p<0. 01), and they had high negative correlation on anterior areas but low negative correlation on premolar and molar areas.
This study investigated the effectiveness of "Healing Stay in Forest," a long-term stay forest therapy program implemented by National Center for Forest Therapy in 2019 with 49 participants by measuring pre- and post-questionnaire responses and physical changes, such as blood pressure, body composition, and HRV. Results confirmed statistically significant reduction in negative emotions and enhancement of autonomic nerve balance in the participants. Regarding the changes in the evaluation of physical fitness based on medical history, some significant differences were observed in grip strength and standing high jump, in which participants with no medical history showed better results than those with medical history. These findings are important for verifying the effectiveness of long-term stay forest therapy (6 nights and 7 days).
