User Interface Design & Evaluation of Mobile Applications

  • The design functionality put forward by mapping the interactiveness of information. The presentation of such information with the user interface model indicates that the guidelines, concepts, and workflows form the deliverables and milestones for achieving a visualized design, therefore forming the right trend is significant to ensure compliance in terms of changing consideration and applying evaluation in the early stages. It is evidenced that prototype design is guided by improvement specifications, includes modes, and variables that increase improvements. The study presents five user interface testing methods. The testing methods are heuristic evaluation, perspective-based user interface testing, cognitive walkthrough, pluralistic walkthrough, and formal usability inspection. It appears that the five testing methods can be combined and matched to produce reasonable results. At last, the study presents different mobile application designs for student projects besides the evaluation of mobile application designs to consider the user needs and usability.

  • Recently various of information suppliers provide information via WWW so the necessary of search engine grows larger. However the efficiency of most search engines is low comparatively because of using simple pattern match technique between user's query and web document. And a manifest contents of query for special expert field so much worse A specialized search engine returns the specialized information depend on each user's search goal. It is trend to develop specialized search engines in many countries. For example, in America, there are a site that searches only the recently updated headline news and the federal law and the government and and so on. However, most such engines don't satisfy the user's needs. This paper proposes the specialized search engine for ocean information that uses user's query related with ocean and search engine uses the association rules in web data mining. So specialized search engine for ocean provides more information related to ocean because of raising recall about user's query

이용자 연구에 관한 연구동향 분석 (An Analysis of the Research Trend on The Information User studies)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the research trend of information user studies. The following findings are made. The literature on information user studies during 1980-1990 reveals 120 titles. The faculty members of university tend to publish their results in scientific journals and university publication while non-faculty members are more likely to represent their research papers in unpublished master thesis and bulletin. Subject distribution of research were classified into ten: user studies, material use studies, information needs and uses, user education, library use pattern, citation analysis, journal use, catalog use, information system, non-use study. Survey research, literature research, survey reserch and literature research use jointly, experimental research and citation analysis were employed for information user studies.

  • 스마트폰과 같이 일상에서 이미 익숙하게 사용하는 제품이나 서비스에 있어 이미 드러난 사용자 니즈가 많은 만큼 드러나지 않는 니즈도 많아진다. '익숙한 불편함'을 알아채고 해결함으로써 기존의 제품 혹은 서비스에 대한 가치 확장의 기회를 끌어낼 수 있다. 숨은 니즈에 대한 다양한 연구들이 있었으며 그 결과 숨은 니즈에 대한 개념정의와 이를 알아내기 위한 방법들이 제시되었다. 그러나 기존 숨은 니즈에 관한 연구들은 주로 새로운 제품이나 서비스 개발에 초점이 맞춰져 있기 때문에 이미 익숙해진 사용에 있어서의 숨은 니즈를 다루기에는 어려운 점이 있다. 이에 익숙한 사용에서의 드러나지 않는 니즈에 대해 가설적으로 재정의하고 이를 알아내기 위해 새로운 방식으로 접근해보고자 한다. 숨은 니즈는 사용자의 표현 범위 밖에 존재하고 명백하게 설명하기 복잡한 문제로 지표 수준에서 다루기 어렵다. 이러한 이유에서 모든 설명을 배제한 사용자 행동 데이터로써 선택한 기본 데이터의 형태는 스마트폰의 스크린 샷이다. 또한 비정형 데이터 기반 정성적 분석의 한계를 극복하기 위해 정성코딩 기법을 사용하여 개별 데이터들에 규칙과 패턴을 부여하고자 한다. 사용자의 숨은 니즈를 이해할 수 있는 유의미한 단서들을 끌어내고 실제 시장동향과의 관련성 검토를 통해 숨은 니즈를 발견하는 방법으로써의 작동 가능성을 확인할 수 있다. 본질적으로 체계화하기 어려운 과제이지만 향후 다른 제품, 서비스 디자인의 숨은 니즈 발견에 있어 참고 가능한 하나의 프레임이 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • 본 연구는 대표적인 영상 공유 사이트인 유튜브와 비메오를 사용자 관점에서 비교 분석하고 이를 통해 인터페이스 디자인에 따른 사용자 경험의 개선 방향을 제안하는 데 목적이 있다. 1차로 문헌연구를 통하여 현재 제공되고 있는 서비스 현황과 이론적 배경을 고찰하고, 앞으로의 서비스 전망에 대하여 비교 분석하였다. 2차로 스티븐 앤더슨(Stephen Anderson)의 Creating Pleasurable Interfaces 6가지 원칙을 바탕으로 심층인터뷰를 진행하였다. 그 결과, 유튜브의 경우 기능에 대한 접근성 저하와 광고량 과다로 편의성 개선이 필요하였다. 비메오의 경우 대중적 콘텐츠 부족으로 인한 대중성 향상과 개인 방송 시스템, 커뮤니티 등과 같은 관계성 서비스가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 앞으로 영상 공유 사이트의 사용자 경험 개선 방안을 위한 참고 자료로 사용될 수 있을 것을 기대하며, 이후 진행될 다른 분야의 사용자 경험 연구에도 도움이 되길 바란다.

사용자 주도형 혁신 모델로서 ICT 리빙랩 사례 분석과 시사점 (ICT Living Lab as User-driven Innovation Model: Case Analysis and Implication)

  • 우리나라 혁신시스템에 탈추격 창조형으로의 전환이 요구되면서 '지속가능성', '삶의 질', '사회문제 해결' 등의 의제에 대응할 수 있는 새로운 혁신모델이 화두가 되고 있다. 특히 혁신정책에서 ICT 활용의 강화와 함께 사용자 니즈, 개발 성과의 확산, 기술의 사회적 영향을 고려할 것을 강조하고 있다. 리빙랩은 사용자가 혁신활동에 능동적으로 참여함으로써 문제를 해결하고, ICT인프라를 활용하여 직접 개발활동 및 혁신주체 간 연계, 사용자 경험 활용이 용이하다는 장점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 사용자와의 협업을 통해 과학기술 ICT 기반 서비스 개발을 수행하는 리빙랩으로 핀란드 Turku Archipelago 리빙랩, 범 유럽 차원에서 리빙랩 방법론 확산을 목표로 하는 EIT ICT Labs와 ELLIOT에 대한 사례분석을 수행하였다. 리빙랩에서 실현되는 최종 사용자(지역 구성원)의 수요와 경험, 과학기술 ICT의 활용 양태를 분석한 결과 이들 리빙랩에서는 기술의 사용자 현장지향성이 강하고, 지역사회를 기반으로 한 혁신활동을 강조하였으며, 거버넌스 다학제 활동에 의한 협업을 중시하였다. 이를 통해 ICT 리빙랩을 국내에 성공적으로 안착하기 위해서는 사용자 지역사회의 역할 강화, 협업구조, R&D 프로세스 등의 설계에 있어 사용자 참여와 숙의가 강조되는 새로운 접근이 필요하다는 함의를 제시할 수 있다.

거주자 요구를 고려한 수납면적에 관한 연구 (A Study on planning of storage area considering residents' needs)

  • The storage style has changed because of diversity of family types, improvement of cost of living, and increase of leisure time. In spite of this change, storage space has still caused discomfort since it did not consider residents' convenience. Therefore, in this study, Brand Apartments were selected, furniture detail drawing was analyzed by plan of housing size and zone to calculate storage area and capacity, and finally needs of storage space were analyzed using survey. Satisfaction of storage space was generally low and $20{\sim}30%$ increase of storage space was demanded. The reasons why the storage space was not satisfied are followed. First, storage space was insufficient. Second, the inner structure of storage space was unified. According to change of life style, needs have changed. To satisfy these needs, the inner division of storage space is planned with considering various items. In addition, development of hardware, flexible division, and priority of storage space with considering user's convenience are needed.

Facebook Me Right: Needs-Based Segmentation of Facebook Brand Page Users

  • In the era of social media, marketers have struggled to understand and serve participants' diverse and multifaceted needs in a novel form of online brand community in the social-networking sites such as Facebook. Thus, this study identifies different groups of participants affiliated with Facebook brand pages based on their needs for brand connection. The need-based segments are validated by comparing results across foodservice and consumer goods. Results of cluster analysis reveal three distinct segments (i.e., residents, lurkers, and peepers) based on participants' functional, experiential, and incentive needs. Results of multivariate analysis of variance illustrate significant differences in relational tendencies for a brand of interest among these three groups. The three groups are profiled based on participants' engagement level. Findings of this study are expected to help marketers better understand the needs of diverse participants in their SNS-embedded brand community so they can develop tailored communication strategies for targeted groups.

정보조사제공에 있어서 비언어적 커뮤니케이션의 응용모형개발을 위한 실증적 연구 (A Pilot Study on the Practical Model of Nonverbal Communication for the Effective Information Services)

  • Traditionally, the emphasis of the information services had been placed on the information provider's knowledge of information sources or information systems. However, in view of the increasing complexity of the information environment. and changes taking place in information professions the evaluation of the information services has callded for further research in interpersonal communication aspects of the librarian user interface especially that which links to user satisfaction. This experimental study was carried out for the purpose of exploring the implications of nonverbal behaviors in measuring user satisfaction in the light of the fact that the meaning of nonverbal clues includes more than verbal communication especially in dealing with variable barriers even though they operate at low levels of awareness. In this sense, among the wide range of nonverbal communication areas in particular kinesics, artifacts and the proximics were examined to suggest alternative model which can be applied effectively in our specific set of information work environment. Two major university libraries and two research libraries in Korea were chosen and visited for the anlysis and per each refernce/information interview the librarian's nonverbal behaviors were checked on the observer's checklist and the qustionnaires completed by the user at a time. On the basis of these data firstly, the relation of user satisfaction concerned with the librarian's nonverbal communication to user satisfaction with information services was analyzed and the possible communication barriers were investigated. In addition, the effect of training the information librarian with positive nonverbal communication skills on the user's satisfaction was analyzed in a SAS computer program in the area of kinesics. On the other hand, the effect of other nonverbal behaviors such as proximics and artifacts known very important clues to improving a complex human interaction was discussed along with their experimental results. In conclusion, it was found that most of users were not sensitive to the importance of nonverbal behaviors exposed by the information librarian, but it was proved that the ultimate user satisfaction and the satisfaction of the librarian's nonverbal behaviors are correlated positively, Moreover, nonverbal behaviors displayed by the trained librarian toward the user had a considerable effect on the user's evalution of information services compared with those by the untrained. These findings imply that in order to control the librarian's nonverbal behaviors and to help the user overcome his barriers the information librarian as a specialist needs to assure and modify willilingly his communication behavior. Without making effective use of such nonverbal communication, information librarian could not expect to meet the user's information needs either. However, when these positive nonverbal behaviors are applied it would be highly desirable to be aware of cultural and contextual differences. With regard to increasing information services success the applicable nonverbal communication model for library management and education can be suggested as below.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate alteration situation and user demand through the case study, to analyze the problems of the user participatory design, and to propose the improvement direction of user participation in the apartment housing. The results of this study are as follows: 1) The method of participatory design using a questionary must be improved with other communication methods between suppliers and users to adapt to the demands of users. 2) The range of menu and the time of participation must be varied to select various materials, colors, types of the interior finish and floor plan freely according to users. 3) Users have the positive attitude about the menu-option method and want to other methods of participatory design like the flexible housing method.
