Exploration of the Path Model among Goal Orientation, Self-efficacy, Achievement Need, Entity Theory of Intelligence, Learning Strategy, and Self-handicapping Tendency in Chemistry Education (화학교육의 목표지향성, 자기효능감, 성취욕구, 지능신념, 자기핸디캡경향 및 학습전략 간의 경로모형 탐색)

  • This study is to search an optimal model on causal relationships of the motivations to learn and motivation strategy in chemistry education. The participants in this study are consisted of G and I high schools students (487) in Gwangju. They all answered to the questionnaire. Model I is hypothesized to be path model of the mediation between 'self-efficacy, achievement need, and entity theory of intelligence' and 'learning strategy and self-handicapping tendency of motivation strategy' by goal orientation to explore variables of study effecting the motivation strategy. And Model II is hypothesized path model of the mediation between goal orientation and 'learning strategy and self-handicapping tendency' by 'self-efficacy, achievement need, and entity theory' to explore variables of study effecting the motivation strategy. Based on these models, structural equation modeling techniques are used to evaluate for the path model among goal orientation(learning, performance approach, and performance approach goal orientation), self-efficacy, achievement need, entity theory of intelligence, self-handicapping tendency, and learning strategy in chemistry education. As the results, Model II is considered. Goodness-of-fit indexes of this model related modification models are identified and analyzed in phases. And this model is accomplished by correcting the model the fifth time to enhance goodness-of-fit indexes.   • In the area of the multimedia computer, the demand for the image processing engineer is large. However, there are not many engineers capable of developing practical systems. To teach practical image processing techniques, we need an intergrated education systems which can efficiently present the image processing theory and, at the same time, provide interactive experiments for the theory presented. In this paper, we propose an integrated education systems for the image processing. It consists of the theory presentation systems and the experiment systems. The theory presentation systems uspports multimedia display functions and HTML. It is tightly integrated with the experiment systems which developed based on the integrated image processing algorithm development system called Hello-vision.

  • This paper presents a new method to compensate the non-linearity for matrix converter drives using PQR instantaneous Power theory. The non-linearity of matrix converter drives such as commutation delay, turn-on and turn-off time of switching device, and on-state switching device voltage drop is modelled by PQR power theory and compensated using a reference current control scheme. The proposed method does not need any additional hardware and off-line experimental measurements. The proposed compensation method is applied for high performance induction motor drives using a 3 kW matrix converter system without a speed sensor. Simulation and experimental results show the proposed method using PQR power theory Provides good compensating characteristic.

A four-variable plate theory for thermal vibration of embedded FG nanoplates under non-uniform temperature distributions with different boundary conditions

  • In this paper, thermal vibration of a nonlocal functionally graded (FG) plates with arbitrary boundary conditions under linear and non-linear temperature fields is explored by developing a refined shear deformation plate theory with an inverse cotangential function in which shear deformation effect was involved without the need for shear correction factors. The material properties of FG nanoplate are considered to be temperature-dependent and graded in the thickness direction according to the Mori-Tanaka model. On the basis of non-classical higher order plate model and Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory, the small size influence was captured. Numerical examples show the importance of non-uniform thermal loadings, boundary conditions, gradient index, nonlocal parameter and aspect and side-to-thickness ratio on vibrational responses of size-dependent FG nanoplates.

Thermal-induced nonlocal vibration characteristics of heterogeneous beams

  • In this paper, thermal vibration behavior of nanoscale beams made of functionally graded (FG) materials subjected to various types of thermal loading are investigated. A Reddy shear deformation beam theory which captures both the microstructural and shear deformation effects without the need for any shear correction factors is employed. Material properties of FG nanobeam are assumed to be temperature-dependent and vary gradually along the thickness according to the power-law form. The influence of small scale is captured based on nonlocal elasticity theory of Eringen. The nonlocal equations of motion are derived through Hamilton's principle and they are solved applying analytical solution. The comparison of the obtained results is conducted with those of nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and it is demonstrated that the proposed modeling predict correctly the vibration responses of FG nanobeams. The effects of nonlocal parameter, material graduation, mode number, slenderness ratio and thermal loading on vibration behavior of the nanobeams are studied in detail.

  • To establish an effective security strategy, business enterprises need a security benchmarking tool. The strategy helps to lessen an impact and a damage in any threat. This study analyses many aspects of information security management and suggests a way to deal with security investments by considering important factors that affect security manager's decision. To address the different threats resulting from a major cause of accidents inside an enterprise, we investigate an approach that followed ISO17799. We unfold a criminology theory that has designated many measures against the threat as suggested by General Deterrence Theory. The study proposes a coherent model of the theory to improve the security measures especially in handling and protecting company assets and human lives as well.

  • A study conducted in NaeSorak Mt. from 1996 to 2006 shows some interesting results indicating general characteristics of natural forests, regeneration and structural patterns on fir stands. Those fir stands could have been confused as climax forests, which is a short-sighted from human-centered view on those stands. A classic theory of succession, which has been frequently applied to analyse the changes in forest ecosystem changes, failed to provide further understanding of fir stands. To comprehend the complicated and diverse process, a concept of ecosystem circulation need be introduced to the theory. This is a main idea of 'patch dynamics' theory developed from 'mosaic cycle' theory.

  • Public diplomacy activities can benefit from social capital theory, when its social dynamics is elucidated in the investment of complex social networks and in the establishment and management of relationships with foreign publics. Social capital theory explains that actors can produce purposive actions to mobilize resources in social structures, which thus explains the dynamics of social interactions. In response to the lack of conceptual frameworks for understanding public diplomacy activities within social capital theory, we conducted a narrative literature review that intends to identify the means through which international actors, such as governments, engage with foreign publics through the dynamics of social networks and the resources embedded in them. In addition, we explored the multidimensional characteristics of social capital to enhance the comprehension of the manner in which actors access, share, and maintain resources in target communities, institutions, or organizations through public diplomacy activities. In summary, we highlight the importance of new theoretical explorations on the application of social capital theory to public diplomacy and the need for a research agenda in the field.

Bending analysis of exponentially varied FG plates using trigonometric shear and normal deformation theory

  • In this paper, bending analysis of exponentially varying functionally graded (FG) plate is presented using trigonometric shear deformation theory (TSDT) considering both transverse shear and normal deformation effects. The in-plane displacement field consists of sinusoidal functions in thickness direction to include transverse shear strains and transverse displacement include the effect of transverse normal strain using the cosine function in thickness coordinate. The governing equations and boundary conditions of the theory are derived using the virtual work principle. System of governing equations, for simply supported conditions, Navier's solution technique is used to obtain results. Plate material properties vary across thickness direction according to exponential distribution law. In the current theory, transverse shear stresses are distributed accurately through the plate thickness, hence obviates the need for a shear correction factor. TSDT results are compared with those from other theories to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the present theory. The current theory is in excellent agreement with the semi-analytical theory.

Optimal learning in English through dynamic cooperation between theory and practice (이론과 실제의 상호작용을 통한 효율적인 영어학습)

  • Nowadays in Korea the subject of English education has been rising as one of the essential matters which need to be emphasized, reorganized, and thus refined. From the history of about one century to the current, English education may be compared to an adolescent who should be paid much more attention to grow as an independent adult. Although we recognize that there was much improvement in the past age of English education, a lot of assignments to solve await us. This study aims to suggest a recipe for optimal learning in English classes by linking theory with practice: First, the nation-wide academic associations of English teaching should act more energetically and cooperatively than ever. They need further specialization, dynamic participation, and systematic organization. At the same time the academic journals of their own should be publicized broadly, internationally as well as nationally. Second, there should be close contact and discussion between professors and secondary-school teachers. To achieve better learning in English classes, an effective cycle of equilibrium ought to be maintained by combining theory with practice. For example, language institute in universities/colleges can serve instructional programs such as lectures, colloquiums, and intensive courses for conversation. Third, native speakers of English should be positively utilized. Teachers had better keep close contact with native speakers as frequently as possible if they want to become fluent or at least acceptable speakers in English. Teachers may also use native speakers as aides in their classes.
