  • An optimal problem in which the dynamics is nonlinear and the cost functional includes a discontinuous integrand is investigated. By using Neustadt's abstract maximum principle, a necessary conditions in the form of Pontryagin's maximum principle is derived and it is further shown that this necessary condition is also a sufficient condition for normal problems with linear-in-the-state systems.

  • In this paper we formulate an optimal control problem governed by time-delay Volterra integral equations; the problem includes control constraints as well as terminal equality and inequality constraints on the terminal state variables. First, using a special type of state and control variations, we represent a relatively simple and self-contained method for deriving new necessary conditions in the form of Pontryagin minimum principle. We show that these results immediately yield classical Pontryagin necessary conditions for control processes governed by ordinary differential equations (with or without delay). Next, imposing suitable convexity conditions on the functions involved, we derive Mangasarian-type and Arrow-type sufficient optimality conditions.

  • This paper is concerned with deriving necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for a fuzzy linear programming problem. Toward this end, an equivalence between fuzzy and crisp linear programming problems is established by means of a specific ranking function. Under this setting, a main theorem gives optimality conditions which do not seem to be in conflict with the so-called Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions for a crisp linear programming problem.

  • In the optimal control problem, at first we search the expected optimal solution by using Pontryagin type's necessary conditions called the maximum principle. Next we use the sufficient conditions to conclude that the searched solution is optimal. In this article the sufficient conditions are studied. The value function is used for sufficient conditions.

  • In this paper we propose an inquiry task on the subject of congruent triangles. The task deals with conditions that are sufficient for congruency, and conditions that are insufficient. The aim of the task is to find the minimal number of identical components in two triangles that is sufficient to ensure congruency.

  • The problem of feedback linearization of SISO nonlinear systems with outputs has been solved by Lee et al. [5]. Also, Cheng et al. [1] have found the necessary and sufficient conditions for MIMO systems, which are, however, uncheckable. In this paper, we consider the MIMO nonlinear systems and obtain the verifiable necessary and sufficient conditions for feedback linearization with output.

  • Necessary and sufficient conditions for the equality between the best linear unbiased estimators in two linear models with different covariance matrices, $V_1 and V_2$, say, are derived. Various applications of this discovery are also given. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the equality between the best linear unbiased estimator and the ordinary least squares estimator are discussed related to this topic.

  • Recently, H.Z.Ming [7] obtained a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a solution to a general operator equation. In the present paper, we obtain such conditions in general forms and give some examples. We begin with the well-known Fan-Browder fixed point theorem, from which we deduce two general theorems on such necessary and sufficient conditiions. We give some examples of such conditions, which are improved versions of fixed point theorems of Halpern-Bergman [5], Ky Fan [3], [4], Kaczynski [6], Reich [9], Schauder [10], Tychonoff [11], and Ming [7]. In fact, we restate Ming's result in its correct form. The following is known as the Fan-Browder fixed point theorem [1], [2].

  • This study tried to reveal the relation among the necessary and sufficient conditions of human relation, which is the core concept of human-centered counseling. The relation of these three conditions are quite different according to what we take as the main content of authenticity. If we take congruence as its content, as Rogers did in his early academic years, three conditions are equal in their importance as instruments which counselor can use. But, if we take presence as its content, as Rogers did in his later academic years, authenticity possesses central position while using empathy and unconditional positive regard as its instruments. In this relation, we can say authenticity is a continuous growing process of self realization. And it also can be sad that the three necessary and sufficient conditions compose productive counseling relation inviting both counselor and client to the self realizing process.

  • We reconsider the classical orthogonal polynomials which are solutions to a second order differential equation of the form $$l_2(x)y'(x)+l_1(x)y'(x)={\lambda}_ny(x)$$. We investigate two characterization theorems of F. Marcellan et all and K.H.Kwon et al. which gave necessary and sufficient conditions on $l_1(x)\;and\;l_2(x)$ for the above differential equation to have orthogonal polynomial solutions. The purpose of this paper is to give a proof that each result in their papers respectively is equivalent.
