  • Several kinds of High Temperature Superconducting(HTS) power cables have already been developed and evaluated for use in the utility power network. HTS power cable is expected to be used as a very powerful energy delivery system supplying electric power for densely populated cities in the near future, because HTS power cable is capable of the high current density delivery with low AC loss and the size effect comparing with the conventional cable whose capacity is same. Before applying the HTS power cable to real utility network system analysis should be carried out by some simulation tools. Hereby the electrical power system analysis is very important for the practical use of HTS power devices. In this paper, authors propose a real-time simulation method which incorporates a real HTS tapes into the simulated 22.9kV utility power network system using Real Time Digital Simulator(RTDS). For the simulation analysis, a test sample of HTS tapes was actually manufactured, and the transient phenomenon of HTS power cable system was analyzed in the simulated utility power network.

  • This paper deals with the high precision of GPS measurement reduction and its implementation on near real-time and kinematic mode for those applications requiring centimeter-level precision of the estimated coordinates, even if target stations are a few hundred kilometers away from their references. We designed the system architecture, data streaming and processing scheme. Intensive investigation was performed to determine the characteristics of the GPS medium-range functional model, IGS infrastructure and some exemplary systems. The designed system consisted of streaming and processing units; the former automatically collects GPS data through Ntrip and IGS ultra-rapid products by FTP connection, whereas the latter handles the reduction of GPS observables on static and kinematic mode to a time series of the target stations' 3D coordinates. The data streaming unit was realized by a DOS batch file, perl script and BKG's BNC program, whereas the processing unit was implemented by definition of a process control file of BPE. To assess the functionality and precision of the positional solutions, an experiment was carried out against a network comprising seven GPS stations with baselines ranging from a few hundred up to a thousand kilometers. The results confirmed that the function of the whole system properly operated as designed, with a precision better than ${\pm}1cm$ in each of the positional component with 95% confidence level.

  • The DISCOVER Project (${\underline{D}}istributed$ ${\underline{I}}nformation$ ${\underline{S}}ervices$ for ${\underline{C}}limate$ and ${\underline{O}}cean$ products and ${\underline{V}}isualizations$ for ${\underline{E}}arth$ ${\underline{R}}esearch$) is a NASA funded Earth Science REASoN project that strives to provide highly accurate, carefully calibrated, long-term climate data records and near-real-time ocean products suitable for the most demanding Earth research applications via easy-to-use display and data access tools. A key element of DISCOVER is the merging of data from the multiple sensors on multiple platforms into geophysical data sets consistent in both time and space. The project is a follow-on to the SSM/I Pathfinder and Passive Microwave ESIP projects which pioneered the simultaneous retrieval of sea surface temperature, surface wind speed, columnar water vapor, cloud liquid water content, and rain rate from SSM/I and TMI observations. The ocean products available through DISCOVER are derived from multi-sensor observations combined into daily products and a consistent multi-decadal climate time series. The DISCOVER team has a strong track record in identifying and removing unexpected sources of systematic error in radiometric measurements, including misspecification of SSM/I pointing geometry, the slightly emissive TMI antenna, and problems with the hot calibration source on AMSR-E. This in-depth experience with inter-calibration is absolutely essential for achieving our objective of merging multi-sensor observations into consistent data sets. Extreme care in satellite inter-calibration and commonality of geophysical algorithms is applied to all sensors. This presentation will introduce the DISCOVER products currently available from the web site, http://www.discover-earth.org and provide examples of the scientific application of both the diurnally corrected optimally interpolated global sea surface temperature product and the 4x-daily global microwave water vapor product.

  • This paper develops a travel time prediction algorithm that can be used for real-time application. The algorithm searches for the most similar pattern in historical travel time database as soon as a series of real-time data become available. Artificial neural network approach is then taken to forecast travel time in the near future. To examine the performance of this algorithm, travel time data from Gyungbu Highway were obtained and the algorithm is applied. The evaluation shows that the algorithm could predict travel time within 4% error range if comparable patterns are available in the historical travel time database. This paper documents the detailed algorithm and validation procedure, thereby furnishing a key to generating future travel time information.

  • In order to develop an HNS safety management system to assess and visualize hazard levels via an automated method, we have conceptualized and configured a sample system. It is designed to quantify the risk of a vessel carrying HNS with a matrix method along navigational route and indicate hazards distribution with a contour map. The basic system which provides a visualized degree of hazards in real time has been introduced for the safe navigation of HNS ships. This is useful not only for decision making and circumstantial judgment but may also be utilized for HNS safety management with a risk base. Moreover, this system could be extended to address the navigational safety of marine traffic as well as of autonomous vessels in the near future if the sensors used are connected with IoT technology.

  • Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) is a process of incorporating imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Positron emission tomography (PET), and ultrasound (US) during radiation therapy (RT) to improve treatment accuracy. It allows real-time or near real-time visualization of anatomical information to ensure that the target is in its position as planned. In addition, changes in tumor volume and location due to organ motion during treatment can be also compensated. IGRT has been gaining popularity and acceptance rapidly in RT over the past 10 years, and many published data have been reported on prostate, bladder, head and neck, and gastrointestinal cancers. However, the role of IGRT in lymphoma management is not well defined as there are only very limited published data currently available. The scope of this paper is to review the current use of IGRT in the management of lymphoma. The technical and clinical aspects of IGRT, lymphoma imaging studies, the current role of IGRT in lymphoma management and future directions will be discussed.

  • In AVL, GIS analyze the information from the vehicles to provide commercial or other value far user. As spatial analysis functions in GIS make a new valuable information using the vehicle's position and geographic object's location, they perform an important roles to improve the management efficiency of vehicles. Most GIS however are used static data for the spatial analysis, so the research area on AVL used dynamic vehicle location has generated unsuitable result. In this study, we use GPS real time tracking data to perform spatial analysis between moving vehicle and static geographic object. The method proposed in this paper considers the driving direction of vehicle and creates the result which is located in forward of vehicle. In this paper, two spatial analysis functions, near and connectivity, are developed.

  • The Total Electron Content (TEC) measured from Global Positioning System (GPS) can be continuously or peculiarly increased (positive ionospheric storm) or decreased (negative ionospheric storm) with solar and geomagnetic activities as well as the chemical and dynamic processes with thermosphere in the mid-latitudes. The ionospheric storm is not easy to predict owing to its difficult mechanism, and the real-time GPS TEC monitoring may be useful to follow ionospheric response to solar and geomagnetic storms. Korea Astronomy & Space Science Institute has continuously monitor GPS TEC over Korea Peninsula in near real-time of 10 minutes to watch activities. In this presentation, we will report the variation of GPS TEC over Daejeon and JeJu in Korea during the period of solar flare eruption and geomagnetic storm events in 2011. These events in 2011 will be compared with the event in October 2003 and November 2004.

• The problem of selecting a portfolio is to find Un investment plan that achieves a desired return while minimizing the risk involved. One stream of algorithms are based upon mixed integer linear programming models and guarantee an integer optimal solution. But these algorithms require too much time to apply to real problems. Another stream of algorithms are fur a near optimal solution and are fast enough. But, these also have a weakness in that the solution generated can't be guaranteed to be integer values. Since it is not a trivial job to tansform the scullion into integer valued one simutaneously maintaining the quality of the solution, they are not easy to apply to real world portfolio selection. To tackle the problem more efficiently, we propose an algorithm which generates a very good integer solution in reasonable amount of time. The algorithm is tested using Korean stock market data to verify its accuracy and efficiency.
