  • This study was conducted to evaluate effects of various eco light sources with various lighting distance in 'Viking' rose (Rosa spp.) on the growth and flowering quality to be applied for farm sites. Treatment included 10-, 20-, and 30-RL (-BL, -RBL, -FL, and -IL), which referred to red LED (blue LED, red+blue LED, fluorescent, and incandescent) lighting at 10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm respectively, apart from flowers. NL referred to natural light as a control. Growth and flowering of 'Viking' rose were non-destructively measured at 4, 6, and 8 weeks after treatment (WAT). FL treatment increased plant height at 4, 6, and 8 WAT, regardless of lighting distance, with the shortest height observed for the NL-treated flowers. 30 RL treatment also increased plant height at 6 and 8 WAT. Stem diameter and number of leaves were not significantly different for all the treatments at 8 WAT, with the lowest values observed for RBL treated-flowers among the light source treatments. Number of root was the greatest for the 30 BL-treated flowers (10.0) but the fewest for the 30 FL (4.7). Length of flower neck at 6 WAT was the extended by 6~7 cm in the 10 FL and 20 FL treatments as well as by 5~6 cm in the 20 RL and 30 RL treatments, inducing 100% of flowering. NL increased $a^*$ (29) of flower color, with the lowest value (10) observed for 20 RL. All things considered, 30 RL would be the best interaction treatment of source and distance of eco light to improve plant height and flowering quality of 'Viking' rose.

  • Antheraea yamamai silkworm cocoon is considered as a natural biocompatible materials, but can not be used as medical resources due to its difficult processability. In this study, we examined the general characteristics including cocoon shell weight and structural and thermal properties of Antheraea yamamai silkworm cocoon. The cocoon shell weight and thickness of wild silkworm cocoon was 0.528 g and 0.424 mm, respectively. The cocoon has yellow-green color in outside cocoon but white in inner layer cocoon. Amino acid analysis showed that the main amino acid of Antheraea yamamai cocoon is alanine, glycine, serine, aspartic acid, tyrosine and arginine. X-ray diffractometry showed that strong diffraction peaks at $2{\theta}=16.8^{\circ}$, $20.4^{\circ}$, corresponded to ${\beta}$-sheet structure and sharp diffraction peaks at $2{\theta}=15.0^{\circ}$, $24.3^{\circ}$, $30.0^{\circ}$ due to the presence of calcium oxalate on cocoon surface. Antheraea yamamai cocoon was degraded at $370^{\circ}C$. These results might be used as basic information for development of non-textile materials using Anthereae yamamai silkworm cocoon.

  • Textural properties of the cooked wheat noodles prepared from 5 Korean wheat varieties (Woori, Yeunpa, Allgeuru, Geuru, and Tapdong), and 3 foreign wheat varieties (ASW, WW and DNS) were evaluated by mechanical and sensory analyses, and their correlations to the physicochemical properties of the flours were examined. Cooking loss for noodle was negatively correlated with protein content, and weight increase during cooking showed a positive correlation with damaged starch content. From the mechanical tests, hard wheats (Tapdong and DNS) showed greater values for hardness, chewiness and tensile strength of the noodles than soft wheats. Foreign soft wheats (ASW and WW) showed relatively lower values for these attributes than the Korean soft wheats. Among the mechanical tests, multi-blade compression shear test had better correlations to the sensory characteristics than 10% compression, repeated compression and tensile tests. Among the flour characteristics, protein content was the most determining factor for the textural properties of noodle. Amylose increased the tenderness and slipperiness, but decreased internal firmness of the noodle. The Korean soft wheat noodles showed relatively darker color for the cooked noodle than WW or ASW. From acceptability test for noodle, Geuru was most preferred among the tested wheat varieties.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of red ginseng extracted with water extract (WE) and 50% ethanol extract (EE) from white ginseng on cooked meat patties during storage. Different concentrations of extracts were examined (0.25%, 0.5%, and 1.%, respectively, dry base w/w). A significantly higher water holding capacity (WHC) was observed in samples supplemented with ${\geq}$ 0.5% WE (p < 0.01); however, EE had no significant effect on the WHC of meat patties. Samples supplemented with ${\geq}$ 0.5% WE or EE showed a significantly higher redness ($a^*$-value) compared to the control (p < 0.01). The total plate counts (TPC) and 2-thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) of all treated samples were lower than those of the control. However, there were no significant differences in volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) values and sensory evaluation scores between the samples. These results suggest that red ginseng extract improves color and inhibits lipid oxidation and bacterial population at doses > 0.25%, prolonging the shelf-life of meat products and acting as a natural colorant.

  • Vision-based Human computer interaction is an emerging field of science and industry to provide natural way to communicate with human and computer. Especially, recent increasing demands for mobile augmented reality require the development of efficient interactive technologies between the augmented virtual object and users. This paper presents a novel approach to construct marker-less mobile augmented reality object and control the object. Replacing a traditional market, the human hand interface is used for marker-less mobile augmented reality system. In order to implement the marker-less mobile augmented system in the limited resources of mobile device compared with the desktop environments, we proposed a method to extract an optimal hand region which plays a role of the marker and augment object in a realtime fashion by using the camera attached on mobile device. The optimal hand region detection can be composed of detecting hand region with YCbCr skin color model and extracting the optimal rectangle region with Rotating Calipers Algorithm. The extracted optimal rectangle region takes a role of traditional marker. The proposed method resolved the problem of missing the track of fingertips when the hand is rotated or occluded in the hand marker system. From the experiment, we can prove that the proposed framework can effectively construct and control the augmented virtual object in the mobile environments.

  • The sand dollar, Astriclypeus manni is commonly encountered on a subtidal sand bottom along the coast of Cheju Island. limited information has been reported on their ecology despite their natural abundance. This study reports ecology and an annual reproductive cycle of the sand dollars present at Hamdock, northern coast of Cheju Island. A. manni collected from Hamdock revealed that they are 80 to 200 mm in test diameter. Sediment Brain size analysis indicated that A. manni mostly occurs on medium (particle diameter of 500 $\mu$m) to very find sand (particle diameter of 125 $\mu$m), particularly on fine sand (particle diameter of 250 $\mu$m). Internal morphology and in situ observations on their feeding habit indicated that A. manni is a deposit feeder, feeding on organic debris contained in the sediment around its habitat. A. manni were more frequently observed near Zostrea marina bed where content of organic matter in the sediment is considered to be higher. Gonadal tissues of the male were yellow in color while female gonads appeared to be purple. Fully mature eggs, with a mean diameter of 381 $\mu$m, and sperm were observed from the histological slides of the sand dollars collected in late July to August, suggesting that A. manni spawn during July to August when water temperature reaches 20 to $25^{\circ}C$.

  • Ceramic cultural artifacts restored with gypsum-based materials are prone to decay over time due to gypsum's natural absorption and release of atmospheric moisture, often leading to distortion and peeling of painted layers. This study proposes a new restoration material which utilizes extra hard stone, significantly superior in strength to regular gypsum. In order to enhance its physical properties and make it suitable for restoration of ceramics, extra hard stone is mixed with metakaolin. This mixture far surpasses regular gypsum in compressive strength(119MPa vs. 26MPa) while also maintaining a much lower wear rate(0.88% vs. 2.53%). Furthermore, the water absorption rate(2.9%) of the mixed material is over five times lower than that of regular gypsum(17.2%). When examined using a SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope), this mixture also proved superior to extra hard stone in terms of hardened density. The addition of metakaolin increases the mixture's strength and water resistance over that of extra hard stone and also improves its surface density, making it ideal for the restoration of ceramics. It has already been used to repair ceramic objects in the Museum's collection: Clay basin(sinan 18892), Buncheong ware bottle with incised peony design(jubsu 2034), Buncheong ware bowl with chrysanthemum(jubsu 1730). Results thus far have shown the mixture to be easy to inject and layer as well as harden into an even surface, which allows for smooth application of paint for color matching.

  • Based on fundamental properties and machining characteristics of Yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera L.), it has well performance on machinability or workability, drying, and fine surface. Additionally, yellow poplar is light weight and has bright color with high performance of bending processing, so it could be used for furniture or artworks materials and wood-based panel materials. Recently, public attention has been focused on indoor air quality, and Ministry of environment drift more tight regulation on indoor air quality for an apartment house and public facility with the times. Construction materials has been assessed emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde according to law (No.10789), so yellow poplar is also needed to assess these emission characteristics. Emission of VOC and aldehyde compounds from dry and green wood condition of yellow poplar were investigated with KS M 1998:2009. Based on results, more than 30 compounds were detected from yellow poplar, and lower NVOC (natural VOC) were emitted than AVOC (Anthropogenic VOC) and OVOC (other VOC). Formaldehyde emission was lower than $5{\mu}g/m^3$ and acetaldehyde, ketone, and propionaldehyde were detected from yellow poplar. From dry yellow poplar, m-Tolualdehyde ($33.6{\mu}g/m^3$) was additionally detected while no detection of propionaldehyde. After drying process, amount of ketone emission increased significantly. The unique smell of yellow poplar may not only come from emission of acetaldehyde and propionaldehyde.

  • Seok-jang is one of traditional seasonings prepared by solidification of the mixture of say sauce and salt for long period of aging time. In this study, the physiochemical properties of Seok-jang were investigated for the substitution of solar salt. Seok-jang exhibited highest mineral (P, Na, Fe, Mn, and Al) contents than those of solar salt and soy sauce, while showed lower soluble solids content than that of soy sauce. Seok-jang also exerted the highest pH value 7.70 compared to solar salt and soy sauce. Whereas magnesium and calcium contents of solar salts were 2.90 and 0.26 ppm, which were significantly higher than those of Seok-jang. In color values, $L^*$ value was highest in solar salt and lowest in say sauce, While the highest $a^*$ and $b^*$value were 6.19 and 18.2 observed in Seok-jang followed by a solar salt and soy sauce. On the other hand, less amount of insoluble solid and sand powder content were 0.03 and 0.07% found in Seok-jang, respectively. In conclusion, Seok-jang was suitable for the potentional substitution of natural salt ingredient.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate physicochemical and antioxidant characteristics of immature flat persimmon during 7 heat treatment aging steps. The pH decreased, and hence, acidity increased with aging. Hunter L value decreased with aging. The a value rapidly increased until step 3, whereas the b value decreased. Fructose content decreased while glucose contents slightly increased during aging. Hardness, chewiness and gumminess rapidly decreased, indicating softening in texture, but it was negligible after aging step 3. Phenolic compounds including gallic acid and homogentisic acid were detected at step 3 and then gradually increased with aging. However, contents of flavonoid and tannin were much higher in step 1 sample than others. The antioxidant activities observed by DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assay were the highest at step 1 possibly due to the higher levels of flavonoids and tannin acid in the step 1 sample.
