Utilizing Spatial Information for Landform Analysis and Web-Based Sight-Seeing Guidance of the Natural Park -A Case Study of Kumoh Mt Province Park- (자연공원의 지형분석과 웹기반 관광안내를 위한 공간정보의 활용 -금오산 도립공원을 중심으로-)

  • For the purpose of data construction for the systematic management and sight-seeing guidance of the natural park, the Kumoh Mt. Province Park was selected as a pilot area. Digital topographic maps, thematic maps and satellite imagery covering the object area were processed and then landform analysis for elevation, slope, aspect and so on was conducted through DEM generation, and the landcover map and NDVI maP were extracted from Landsat TM data. The database was then constructed with these spatial data for GSIS. The image map was generated from IKONOS satellite data, which cover the pilot area data, with one meter resolution and also 3D visualization which was overlaid with main paths up a mountain were conducted. And the moving image files were produced along main paths up including main natural spectacular sights, cultural assets and management facilities. It is expected that the research result can be utilized as the fundamental data for re-assessing suitable land use and constructing Web-based guidance system.

  • Damage on assets and lives caused by natural disasters can be minimized by the provision of early warning information and preventive activities. In this sense, the importance of a disaster early warning system continues to increase. This study specifies the kinds of early warning systems depending on the type of natural disasters such as typhoon, flood and heavy snow. The mechanism for information transmission and status of early warning operations are analyzed. Through this analysis, the urgent need to establish a national integrated early warning transmission system is emphasized. In addition, this study offers methods to prevent unnecessary overlapping of investments by establishing an organic mechanism among individual early warning systems. Based on the standardization of disaster-related information, this study also provides methods to improve the efficiency of disaster early warning systems by organizing a permanent team for handling the systematic management and operation of the system.

Rearrangement of the Designated Area and Modification of Features of Buryeongsa Valley as a Scenic Site (불영사계곡의 명승 지정구역 조정 및 현상변경 방안 연구)

  • Since ancient times, Korea has been called a land of beauty. Scenic sites under the Cultural Properties Protection Act include picturesque places that are famous for their natural scenic beauty as well as their historical and cultural value. Scenic sites are managed as natural assets to promote their preservation and use. However, the management of scenic sites can produce adverse effects on regional development and ownership rights. Moreover, the purpose of their designation as cultural assets is not fully understood because scenic sites are managed by focusing on restraint on users' act the same as was applied to historic sites. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to protect inhabitants' rights of ownership by arranging the boundaries of designated areas and by providing standard permission for condition changes in the Buryeongsa Valley, which was designated as a Scenic Site in 1979. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, arranging the boundaries of the designated area includes the arrangement of the edge lines standardized on the visual range of the mountain ridge, preventing the loss of landscape beauty in the designated district; the internal clearing district focuses on the existing settlement. Gearing the designated areas after the arrangement of the boundaries results in $11,928,932m^2$, 38.6% compared to the existing designated areas. Second, it establishes a 500m buffer zone inside the radius of the boundary of the cultural asset as a standard for condition changes that seriously affect landscape preservation. Third, the standards for permission on building 'height regulations' are divided into flat and gable, according to the roof shape. The adopted standard is 8m high for 2 story flat roofs, and 12m high for 2 story gable roofs.

Synthesis and Property Evaluation of Bio-adhesives Using Peach Gum(桃膠) (도교(桃膠)를 이용한 바이오 접착제의 합성 및 물성 평가)

  • This basic research was conducted to support the development of woodcraft bio-adhesives using peach gum, which is the resin produced by peach trees. The synthesis conditions of these adhesives were optimized by performing 144 experiments. The application potential of peach gum adhesives was explored by comparing their properties with those of three natural adhesives and four synthetic adhesives. The best adhesive strength was obtained by dissolving the resin in 80 mL of distilled water containing 1.5 g NaOH, 1.65 g H2O2 ( pH 8.0-9.0), 0.5 g NaClO, and 0.5 g H2BO2. The adhesive strength, which showed minimal changes and excellent reversibility, was 125.39 kgf/cm2. Ultraviolet radiation-mediated deterioration in strength in the absence of total aerobic bacteria was negligible (△E*ab = 2.75). These data confirm the potential value of peach gum-based bio-adhesives for woodcraft as well as their utility as alternatives for natural and synthetic adhesives used for the manufacture and restoration of handicrafts and preservation of cultural assets.

A Study on Value of Geumseonjeong as a Scenic Spot (금선정의 명승적 가치에 관한 연구)

  • The Confucian culture of the Chosun Dynasty has a great effect on the construction of ByeolSeo gardens. Among them, especially the gardens built in Gyeongsang Province areas, where a great number of Confucian scholars were produced in the beautiful natural environment, have maintained various heritage of Confucian culture established by the scholars. Along with the Nakdong River, we can find so many cultural assets of buildings such as head houses, ByeolSeo gardens, including the literary remains such as administrative certificates, poetry and prose, and records of pavilions, which show the trace of the scholars who followed the instructions of the doctrines of Chu-tzu. The Geumseonjeog located in Punggi County, Gyeongsangbuk Province, which was the ByeolSeo gardens possessed by Geumgye Whang Jun-ryang(1517-1563), who was the governor of the area and one of the representative students of Toigye Lee Whang. The building is located nearby the Geumseon Valley with beautiful natural scenery under Sobaek Mountain. Especially the pine forest around the valley boasts a unique natural setting. This study is aimed to analyze the value of natural scenic spot of the Geumseonjeong through the surveys on surroundings, topography, vegetation and water system. including the value of humanistic elements focused on the writings such as 'Geumgyejip' written by Whang Jun-ryang and Lee Whang, another 'Geumgyejip' written by Ryu un-ryong, and 'Geumgyejeongsajungsugi' written by Hong Gyeong-ryeom. And also, the scenic spot value of the signboards such as the 'Geumgyejeongsajungsugi' written by Ryu un-ryong, 'Geumgyejeong' by Lee Han-il, 'Geumgyejeong' written by Jo Un-hyeong and 'Geumgyejeongsa, written by Lee Jung-gi, was analyzed. And the historical and cultural value was analyzed through the semantic interpretation of the series of poetry and pose and the old map established in 1872. In respect of the scenery, the surroundings of the Geumseon Valley boast the outstanding settings as the clean mountain stream in front of the Geumseonjeong makes a beautiful harmony with the pine forest. The pine forest surrounding the Geumseon Valley has played a secret role in the history of the village. Considering the fact that the pine forest was expressed in the map of Punggi County produced in 1872, it may be assumed that the forest was regarded to have historical and scenic value in those times. Considering the fact that the words like 'Beautiful' and 'Scenic spot' were used in the writings like 'Geumgyejip' and there were meeting places around the valley, we can recognize the value of the place as a scenic spot. The beautiful natural scenery surrounding the ByeolSeo gardens, and the increase in humanistic value of the poetry and prose, including the administrative certificates, has recently brought about the cases in which some scenic spots of the ByeolSeo gardens were designated as cultural assets. According to the value as a scenic spot and semantic interpretation of the Geumseonjeong, the pavilion appeared to have a great scenic spot value as a ByeolSeo gardens, so that this study was designed to prepare criteria with which the pavilion may be designated as a scenic spot of ByeolSeo gardens.

Assessment of physical condition of old large Chionanthus retusus(Chinese Fringe Tree) using structural stability analysis (천연기념물 이팝나무 노거수 구조안정성 진단을 통한 물리적 생육상태 평가)

  • Decay or large cavities inside trees are the main causes of trees overturning and broken branches, and structurally weakened trees are more vulnerable to strong winds and heavy snowfall. Recently, as strong winds and typhoons increase due to climate change, the damage to human life and property due to trees overturning continues to increase, and cultural assets are in a similar situation. In particular, old big trees are structurally vulnerable to external shocks such as strong winds and heavy snowfall. This study was aimed at providing a scientific basis for preventive protection measures by conducting a structural stability diagnosis of seven retusa fringe trees designated as natural monuments. For the structural stability diagnosis, tree risk assessment and internal tree defect measurements were performed. As a result of the tree risk assessment, the Retusa Fringe Trees in Sinjeon-ri, Yangsan and Gwangyangeupsu had the highest risk of broken branches due to weak branch attachment strength. As a result of the diagnosis of internal defects of cross sections of measured trees, there were suspected cavities or severe decay in all except two trees of the population of Retusa Fringe Trees in Pyeongji-ri. Natural disasters due to climate change are increasing, and the scale is getting larger, so it is very important to preemptively manage large old trees through scientific structural safety diagnosis to manage trees that are vulnerable to environmental changes.

  • To make more beautiful and exciting scenery of a city, the design of private buildings has to be controlled in a way to improve the public amenity by the proper design of buildings ensuring views to natural assets in the city. And it is important to provide an urban landscape solution, while solving the afflictions of architects between their dream in individual architecture and the significances of Urban landcape as a whole. This research is based on the survey of the experts and public officers in the field of Urban landcape planning and administration in Gwang-ju City and Chonnam Province in Korea. The search reveals the following fact. Comparing the fact that some of foreign countries have proper systems of planning, regulations, guidelines, and design awards for the improvement of Urban landcape long time ago, the systems of Urban landcape planning and related administration in Korea is still in a primitive stage, due to the lack of the consideration of local characteristics and resources, variety of solutions, and setting of goals and objectives. Consequently, public enlightening of the importance of Urban landcape and the development of relevant contents in Urban landcape planning and administration are mostly required, to build up the system that can allow people to live in beautiful and good scenery of a city.

  • The new paradigm of urban regeneration, would promote the comprehensive communal view. Therefore, the community role has become an important and necessary for regeneration of communities. It is necessary for urban regeneration which should be matched with the regional characteristics, to develop an evaluation framework that can objectively and accurately diagnose the status of community; so it can be an integrated prescription. A new alternative, asset-based approach may be an alternative to build the community based on opportunities and strengths, which focuses on community inside and things that community have. In this study, a community asset is defined as the tangible and intangible components in the community. A community asset evaluation system is developed through the content analysis related to previous studies of several researchers who investigated the asset-based approaches. Community assets are classified into seven types: human, social, cultural, natural, physical, economic, and political property. Each type is classified into components and establish as a framework with 3 levels in order to set the indicators which can be measured concretely.

A Study on the Effects and Adaptation of Climate Change in Insurance Industry (보험업의 기후변화 영향과 적응에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to screen for the effects of climate change and climate change adaptation in the insurance industry. There is now a consensus that the climate is changing, with potential risk to the global economy and human health and so on. On the other hand, unknown is the extent to which insurance business pattern have already been affected. But the increase in damage due to climate change is likely to raise insurance company losses. In this regard, I conduct especially an effects of the insurance industry on climate change. And than, I analyzed what insurance companies would do to lessen the impact of climate change. As a result, the impact of climate change on the insurance industry is a huge increases in claims due to disasters and diseases arising from climate change. And another thing is growth in climate change-related legislation, regulations and reporting requirements such as financial soundness regulation and climate change risk disclosure. Therefore, the insurance industry needs to build a climate change adaptation strategies include capital raising, liquidity of assets, faithful debt management and so forth.

The Differences in the Selection of Outward FDI Locations between State- and Privately Owned Enterprises of China: Focusing on the Effects of Host Country Factors (중국 국유기업과 민간기업 간 해외직접투자 입지 차이 분석: 현지국 요인의 영향을 중심으로)

  • In recent years, Chinese firms have explosively increased outward foreign direct investment (oFDI). While state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are still dominant in Chinese oFDI, privately-owned enterprises (POEs) are also accelerating their internationalization. These two types of Chinese firms differ in their behavior regarding oFDI. The objective of this paper is to analyze the differences in the choice of oFDI locations between Chinese SOEs and POEs by considering host country factors. By integrating the literature on Chinese firms' oFDI and on FDI locations, we developed six hypotheses concerning how host country factors affect their choice of location. We tested our hypotheses by conducting multiple regression analysis with recent secondary data on 413 Chinese MNEs in 88 countries between 2005 and 2016. The results of the test show that in selecting oFDI locations, Chinese SOEs invest relatively more in countries with richer natural resources, more abundant strategic assets, less production efficiency, higher political risk, and lower institutional quality compared with Chinese POEs. It is our hope that the empirical results of this paper will contribute to research on Chinese oFDI.
