  • The site coefficients in the common requirements for seismic design codes, which were promulgated in 2017, were reevaluated and the standard design spectrum for soil sites were newly proposed in order to ensure the consistency of the standard design spectra for rock and soil sites specified in the common requirements. Using the 55 ground motions from domestic and overseas intraplate earthquakes, which were used to derive the standard design spectrum for rock sites, as rock outcropping motions, site response analyses of Korean soil were performed and its ground-motion-amplification was characterized. Then, the site coefficients for soil sites were reevaluated. Compared with the existing site coefficients, the newly proposed short-period site coefficient $F_a$ increased and the long-period site coefficient $F_v$ decreased overall. A new standard design spectrum for soil sites was proposed using the reevaluated site coefficients. When compared with the existing design spectrum, it could be seen that the proposed site coefficients and the standard design spectrum for soil sites were reasonably derived. They reflected the short-period characteristics of earthquake and soil in Korea.

  • The study was carried out to confirm the reliability of standard samples, low concentration $0.74mgN(NO_3)/l$, $0.58mgF^-/l$, high concentration $2.14mgN(NO_3)/l$, $1.25mgF^-/l$, on the base of quality control chart. The analytical results had the precise reliability with standard deviation of 0.010, 0.017, 0.056 and 0.019, respectively. When three persons A, B and C, who had different analytical experiences, analyzed the standard samples six times repeatedly, C person, who had more academic career and analytical experience, produced far better reliability for analytical results. Therefore, these standard samples were very suitable for external quality control test, because all persons' average values for analytical results were close to the values of prepared standard samples.

  • Oriented strand board (OSB) distributed in Korea was collected, and its mechanical properties were investigated according to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Japanese Industrial Standards, and Korean Design Standard. Ten types of OSBs were collected, including six types for walls and others for floors. The thickness swelling, moisture content, and density of each product satisfied the ISO standards. All products showed lower formaldehyde emission values than those of the SE0 grade. The internal bonding strengths of all products, except products B, H, and I, met the ISO standards. However, products A, B, C, F, and H did not satisfy the thickness swelling standard of the load-bearing OSB for use in dry conditions. Products D and G showed heavy duty load-bearing OSB for use in humid conditions in terms of internal bonding and bending strength after boiling. In the nail head pull-through force and lateral nail resistance tests, all products met the standards. In terms of the structural bending performance (four points), the six types of OSBs for walls satisfied the standard for bending strength and modulus of elasticity. All the products for flooring met the standard for bending strength but, except for product G, the products did not meet the standard for modulus of elasticity. Although the results of this study cannot represent the performance of all imported OSBs, considering the above results, the water resistance performance of seven types of OSB products did not meet the standard, and 10 types of products did not match the labeling grades.

  • Japanese cedar has low density and poor mechanical performance. Manufacturing glue-laminated timber (glulam) is the best way to compensate for its poor mechanical performance. The Korean Standard (KS) confines outermost lamina of glulam to higher grade than E8, but the yield of higher than grade E8 from logs is only 6.5%. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the possibility of non-Korean-Standard glulam in structural applications. Allowable stresses determined by both hand-calculation and Monte-Carlo simulation show a higher allowable stress than that of the KS-standard glulam of 6S-22B. In the Korean Standard (KS), knot characteristics are not taken into account. Japanese cedar has relatively small knots. We believe that the small knots in Japanese cedar contribute to a higher allowable stress than the KS-standard glulam would predict. The species classification of KS is required to be further subdivided into sub-species groups based on knot characteristics.

  • A deadweight force standard machine is a mechanical structure that generates force by subjecting deadweights to the local gravitational field. The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) developed and installed a 100 kN deadweight force standard machine for national force standards. It can generate forces from 2 kN to 110 kN in increments of 1 kN. The uncertainty of the force machine was estimated and declared as $2\times10^{-5}$. This 100 kN deadweight force machine was compared with the 500 kN deadweight force standard machine at KRISS and the 20 kN and 50 kN deadweight force standard machines at the National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ). The measurement results showed good agreement between the deadweight force machines, and the accuracy level of the 100 kN deadweight force machine was verified.

  • Fiber industry is export leading industry that guide national economy development after the 1960s in Korea. But lately, including China and Southeast Asia pursuit, domestic fiber industry is taking serious situation. Various kind methods can be proposed for high value added in fiber industry, the research about color is essential. The importance of color is increasing in modern textile and fashion industry. Color is important factor of textile and fashion industry because color affects strong influence in human's sensitivity. Color expresses by hue, value and chroma but fashion industry is using mainly hue and tone color system. Daegu Gyeongbuk area is domestic maximum syntheic fiber producing district. This study planned the polyester standard color collections for general color management of the polyester industry in Daegu Gyeongbuk. As basic research for this I investigated the color appearance distribution of polyester fabrics in Daegu Gyeongbuk that were produced for the recently 10 years and Japanese polyester color collections "SCOTDIC 2450". Reflect these study finding, in this research planned the usable standard color collections "Hue and Tone Polyester Standard Color 288". This research constructs insufficient domestic color infrastructure and expect that basic role to develop the competitive power for Korean fiber industry.

  • Usually, bacterial spores are hundreds or thousands of times more resistant to chemical sanitizers than are vegetable bacteria. Consequently, it is hard to assess whether a commercial sterilant, containing hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid as ingredients, has or does not have sporicidal activity under certain conditions using the National Standard Test Method for assessing bactericidal activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Hence we established alternative the standard test method and requirements to determine whether they are effective in showing at least reduction of $10^3$ in the number of Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 spores under the required test condition for evaluation of sporicidal activity including verification methodology. This standardized method has proved to be suitable for evaluating effectiveness of commercial sterilants and could be used as Standardization Test Method for assessing sporicidal activity.
