Verrucous carcinoma (VC) is a rare subtype of squamous cell carcinoma that commonly occurs in the oral cavity. However, VC of the facial skin is relatively rare. We report a case of a 91-year-old woman with VC of the facial skin in the left zygoma area. She was diagnosed with actinic keratosis (4×3 cm) of the same site approximately 12 years previously, but declined further treatment. The mass was excised with a minimum of 0.4 cm from gross margins with the result of free from tumor of all margins by frozen section, allowing for primary closure after skin undermining. Basal resection was performed in the preplatysmal plane. The diagnosis of VC was confirmed by histopathological examination. Postoperatively, the wound healed without incident and with no signs of facial nerve injury. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of VC of facial skin arising from actinic keratosis.

The National Health Insurance Service(NHIS) has been selectively covering the elderly on the dental implant and removable denture treatment and gradually expanding the eligibility criteria. Every dentist needs to have a good understanding of the insurance policy to provide qualified dental service to the beneficiaries and to avoid confusions and complications. In order to help dentists understand the NHIS requirements, the definitions, categories, and procedures of dental implant and conventional denture treatment are suggested.

The present case report describes an external auditory canal injury following extraction of the lower molar. The external auditory canal was torn in the same fashion that occurs in an anterior tympanic plate fracture. This case demonstrates one of the rare complications associated with dental extractions.

This study analyzed dose reduction and quality of images through dose reduction tools and shielding board to protect sensitive eye lens in radiation during orbit CT examinations for clinical data use. During CT scans of the phantom, surface dose (CT scanner dosimetry phantom, ion chamber-3 times) and quality of image (radiosurgery head phantom, visual assessment-2 times, HU standard deviation) were evaluated using X-care which is dose reduction tools and bismuth shielding board. The results of experiments of eight conditions showed a relatively reduced dose in all other conditions compared to when no conditions were set. In particular, the area corresponding to the ophthalmic part reduced the surface dose by up to 45.7 %. The visual evaluation of images by specialists and the quality evaluation of images analyzed by HU standard deviation were clinically closest to the use of X-care and shielding board (1 cm in height). Therefore, it is believed that the use of shielding board in a suitable location with dose reduction tools while investigating the optimal radiation dose will reduce the exposure dose of sensitive lens at radiation while maintaining the quality of the images with high diagnostic value.

본 연구에서는 스웨덴의 장애인 보조기구 제공 시스템을 검토하고, 우리나라의 장애인 보장구건강보험 급여정책 대안 마련을 위한 기초자료로서 제공하고자 하였다. 스웨덴에서는 장애인구의 약 10%가 보조기구를 사용하고 있는데, 보조기구 제공을 위해서 중앙정부, 지역정부(란스팅 21개)와 지방정부(콤뮨 290개)의 역할을 명확하게 구분하여 효율적이고 체계적으로 운영하고 있다. 보건사회부 산하의 보건복지국가위원회에서는 지식기반 지침을 개발하고, 장애인정책개발국에서는 장애인 보조기구 정책을 모니터링하며, 장애인 보조기구기술연구소에서는 보조기구 개발연구 및 평가와 보조기구 전시장을 운영한다. 또한, 지역정부(란스팅)와 지방정부(콤뮨)는 보조기구 대여 및 추후관리를 담당하는데, 지역정부(란스팅)별로 보조기구센터를 운영하며 작업치료사, 물리치료사, 심리치료사, 간호사가 처방을 담당한다. 특기할 점은 장애인 보조기구를 무료로 대여하고 추후 관리를 하고 있다는 것과 사용이 끝난 보조기구는 회수하여 재활용을 하고 있다는 것이다. 또한, 처방자격자가 장애진단 담당의(우리나라 시스템)가 아니라 지역 및 지방정부에서 고용한 전문 인력이므로 대상자의 상태를 잘 파악하여 처방을 하고 추후 관리가 가능하다는 점이다.

Purpose: This study attempted to estimate the need for home visiting nurse at public health centers. Methods: A model was generated to estimate a community's home visiting health service needs in 16 regions and a workload analysis was adopted to estimate the number of required Nurses. Data were collected from 16 public health centers using the South Korean government's open-information systems. Subjects were divided into three groups: vulnerable social group, bottom 10% income group, and bottom 20% income group. Results: The analysis revealed that 2,158 and 6,667 nurses were needed to provide home visiting health service for the bottom 10% and 20% income groups, respectively. It was estimated that for the vulnerable social group, 10,336 nurses were needed to provide home visiting health service, implying that the need-based demand for nurses is well over 5 times the number currently employed. Conclusion: The results indicate that the number of currently employed nurses is insufficient for the health management of vulnerable social groups. The government should consider active employment policies to encourage nurses to apply for home visiting health service.

Benign symmetric lipomatosis, also known as Madelung's disease, Launois-Bensaude syndrome and multiple symmetric lipomatosis is a cutaneous condition characterized by extensive symmetric fat deposits in the neck, shoulders, and upper trunk. But symmetrical lipomatosis of the tongue is very rare and characterized by involvement exclusively of the tongue, invasiveness, and absence of encapsulation of the adipose tissue. A 75-year-old man presented with about a year history of painless tongue masses on both lateral border. Bilateral partial glossectomy was performed and subsequently was confirmed as symmetrical lipomatosis pathologically. We report this case with a review of the literatures.

Meningioma originates from arachnoid cap cells and is the second most common intracranial tumor; however, it can also be found in an extracranial location. A very rare primary extracranial meningioma without the presence of an intracranial component has also been reported. Primary extracranial meningiomas have been found in the skin, scalp, middle ear, and nasal cavity. A computerized tomography or magnetic resonance imaging scan is necessary to determine the presence or absence of an intracranial meningioma, and a biopsy is essential for diagnosis. We report a case of primary extracranial meningioma located in the forehead skin of a 51-year-old male.

Intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma is a rare benign neoplasm. Due to its rarity, it is not usually a prioritized diagnosis before surgery and may therefore lead to an unintentional treatment error. In this article, we report a single case of intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma. We were able to make a diagnosis with frozen biopsy. A complete resection of the mass while preserving the facial nerve was performed. Herein we present our clinical experience with regards to the treatment process of intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma.

Angiokeratomas represent vascular lesions and are histologically characterized by superficial dermal vascular ectasia with overlying epidermal hyperkeratosis. Angiokeratoma circumscriptum is one of five types in the group of the angiokeratomas. The lesion is present from birth but may appear in childhood or adulthood. Angiokeratoma circumscriptum is typically hyperkeratotic papules or nodules situated unilaterally on the foot or distal aspect of the leg, but can occur elsewhere on the body. Isolated tongue involvement is very rare. We report a 12-year-old boy with angiokeratoma circumscriptum of the posterior dorsal tongue with a review of the literatures.
