  • This papaer discusses the recent tendencies of health approach in the developed countries and suggests the strategy of health approach in order to cope with the changing environmental conditions of Korea in 2000's. In 2000's, Korea will have the environmental conditions and health problems similar to those of the developed countries at present. The American and European developed countries have shown the integrative approach trend by the interdisciplinary cooperation based on the holistic health conception, for example, as in the behavioral medicine, with the active drive of the medical self care movement and the national health preactice movement. The basic solution to the 2000's main health problems such as high morbidity of chronic diseases and high medical expenditure is to decrease the health need through the health promotion, disease prevention and early. ditection and early treatment of disease. The above actions need to induce the public to change their health behavior in the desirable direction through the national health practice movement and the health self care movement. The succeed of the movements depends upon how to use effectively the mass media, health and administrative organizations, schools, industrial and medical insurance organizations with the strong government support of health and preventive policies and programs.

  • Objectives: A healthy campus enables students to pursue their academic goals. This study examines the health in a broad spectrum of university students and suggests a systematic approach to building a healthy university campus. Methods: The Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1998-2009) results and the American College Health Association-National College Health Assessment (2000-2011) report were used as bases for this study. Results: The most common health problems were allergies, sinusitis, ear infections, anemia, depression, and stress among both American students and Korean young people in the 19-29 age group. American students were more likely to be overweight, while Korean young people were to become underweight. College students were also less likely to practice healthy behavior(i.e. vaccinations, physical activity, and not smoking). To build a healthy university campus, six areas of health services are suggested: medical care, health education, counseling, immunization, heath promotion, and employee assistance programs (EAP). In addition, universities should develop effective strategies to improve health on campus, such as community partnerships. Conclusions: To make the most of the limited resources requires a systematic approach that focuses on continuous monitoring of health on campus, health surveys, and collaboration between universities and their communities.

To this end, we collected data on the satisfaction on the invitational training from 192 participants of short-term and long-term training programs conducted by the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare(KOFIH). T-test, ANOVA analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were conducted. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the national image was enhanced after the invitational training. Second, satisfaction on contents of the training programs had a significant positive (+) effect on the national image. Third, English proficiency and nationality influenced national image significantly. According to this study, it was confirmed that the invitational training in healthcare was influential for enhancing the national image. To enhance the effectiveness of the invitational training, it is necessary to study the contents of the training program and the process of selecting the participants.

  • The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which has continuously evaluated the performance of healthcare systems, has recently invested much effort into hospital performance measurement. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the hospital performance measurement programs operated by international organizations or at the national level based on the OECD's hospital performance project. Health Insurance Review & Assessment service (HIRA)'s quality assessment was analyzed based on the analytical framework of the OECD's hospital performance project. The hospital performance measurement programs of WHO, Canada, Australia, United States and United Kingdom are briefly explored, in view of the conceptual framework, key performance dimensions and indicators that are currently in use. The OECD suggested seven key dimensions of hospital performance: timeliness, efficiency, continuity, effectiveness and appropriateness, staff orientation, patient orientation and safety. The analysis of the quality assessment program of HIRA, which operates 36 diseases and procedures and 347 indicators, shows that the numbers of indicators are relatively small in the areas of safety, patient centeredness and efficiency. Continuity of care and staff orientation are not fully developed also, but the situations are similar in other countries. In conclusion, hospital performance measurement using stable and comprehensive data should be developed to improve overall system performance, and discussions on a conceptual framework that can lay out directions and key performance domains need to take into place.

Data were obtained from 355 university students in Gyeongbuk region through a self-administered questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS Windows V.21.0. To describe characteristics of the respondents, frequency distributions were used. In addition, t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Duncan's multiple range tests were conducted. For 'how many times do you drink a month?', 70.4% of the respondents answered they drank '1~5 times a month'. Additionally, for 'how much alcohol do you drink?', 54.1% of the respondents answered they drank 'appropriately'. The main motive for drinking was to promote friendship or celebrate an anniversary such as a birthday, and 44.8% of respondents started drinking from high school days. Many respondents took meals before drinking, and smokers smoked more while drinking. Methods: Subjects were 212 out-patients with cancer at Kangwon University Hospital. The study was conducted from July 10 to August 14, 2008. Quality of life as determined by the Euro Quality of life-5 Dimensions (EQ-5D) was measured using Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(KCDC). Mental health and subjective health status were measured using KCDC. Results: EQ-5D determined degrees of difficulty were 25.5%(mobility), 25.2%(anxiety or depression), 23.6%(pain or discomfort), 20.3%(activities of daily living), and 13.7%(self care). An analysis of the association between several factors and mental health showed that the statistically significant factors were age, gender, medical coverage, and private insurance. An analysis of the association between several factors and subjective health status showed that the statistically significant factor was occupation. Conclusion: Cancer patients suffer from significant psychological distress. Programs that address mental and physical health would be beneficial.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to provide a scoping review of the impact of COVID-19 on people with disabilities. Methods: PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) Group's key questions (PICO) for systematic reviews, a literature search was conducted from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023 using the "AND" search formula. The databases used were Korea DB: RISS, SCIENCEON, and KoreaMed, and International DB: PubMed, CINAHL, and Embase. Results: Among a total of 22 selected articles, 4 studies were published in korea journals: 3 were survey studies (75.0%), 1 was an analysis study (25.0%), and 18 studies were published in international journals. Through a literature review, we confirmed the differences in difficulties between PwD (People with Disability) and PwoD (People without Disability) in the COVID-19 situation, differences by disability type, and post-COVID-19 impact. In order to examine this systematically and objectively, the results were examined by dividing them, which are components based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Conclusion: In order to respond well to crises and establish effective health policies in similar pandemic situations in the future, understanding and exploration of more diverse types and areas of disability are necessary. In addition, the development and application of appropriate health education and health promotion programs for disability type and ICF component area are required. In addition, it is necessary to develop and apply appropriate health education and health promotion programs tailored to the type of disability and ICF component area.

  • I have analyzed the present status of national certifications and qualifications systems in overseas countries in order to come up with improvement alternatives to National Qualifications Framework(NQF). Most national certifications and qualifications systems at home and abroad have introduced, implemented or are in the process of modifying evaluation programs on the basis of Level 8. I have come to the conclusion that certificates and qualification titles equivalent to those for education programs in cosmetology related departments should be developed for high school to the masters and PhD diplomas, at the same time, the certification program to foster industrial engineers as well as master craftsman for skin & nail-care as well as makeup courses that are not available in beauty field, and I expect this study to be used as the basis material for onsite education & training programs for professionals in beauty field whose capability are respected upon acquisition of relevant certificates in relations with cosmetology related education courses.
