Subjects were selected for the housewives of middle and high socioeconomic classes living in Seoul area. A questionnaire including items of life style, self image, similarity between brands, preference degree to brands, and demographic variables was developed for the empirical study. The questionnaire was administrated to 137 housewives during fall in 1989. Data were analyzed by cluster analysis and multidimensional scaling method. The study had two research problems. The first research problem was to construct a brand perceptual map for ladies' ready-to-wear brands, selected for the study The perceptual map was constructed on the basis of brand similarity scores by multidimensional scaling method. As a result, brands were grouped into 4 clusters, and evaluative criteria for perceptual map were found to be fashionability (classic- fashionable) and familiarity (familiar-unfamiliar). The second problem was to construct a brand preference map for ladies' ready-to-wear brands, selected for the study. The preference map was constructed on the basis of brand preference scores by multidimensional scaling method. As a result, the brands were grouped into 4 clusters and evaluative critiera for preference map were found to be fashionability (unfashionable-fashionable) and image to age (mature-young directed). Also was shown the relationship among self image, age, socioeconomic class, and brand preference. The multidimensional scaling method was found to be useful as well as valid instrument for brand positioning research and the result can be utilized for establishing strategies for ladies' ready-to-wear brands.

Snack culture, which can be easily enjoyed and consumed in a short period of time just like eating sweets, is spreading rapidly. Among them, TikTok is gaining popularity mainly among the MZ generation, and TikTok is rapidly emerging as a means of advertising or marketing. In this study, we studied the effect of TikTok Advertising's informativeness, interactivity, and impediment on brand attitudes. Previous studies have suggested that brand attitudes are formed through usefulness. However, this study divided usefulness into utilitarian value and hedonic value, and proved that brand attitudes are formed through these mediation variables. This is because of the TikTok advertising includes entertainment as well as usefulness. Therefore, this study established and verified the model in which informativeness, interactivity, and impediment of TikTok advertising form brand attitude through utilitarian value and hedonic value. In order to verify this research model, survey questionnaires were distributed to TikTok users and a total of 220 data samples were collected and analyzed. As a result of data analysis, informativeness and interactivity have a positive effect on utilitarian value and hedonic value, but impediment has a negative effect. In addition, informativeness, interactivity, impediment influenced brand attitudes through practical value and hedonic value, not directly influencing brand attitudes. This study is meaningful in that it suggests a marketing strategy that can further enhance brand attitude by considering utilitarian value and hedonic value simultaneously, rather than focusing on either utilitarian value or hedonic value.
This study analyzed the colors used in the logos of infants' and children's clothing brands, comparing them based on brand type and the pursued image. A total of 34 brands with the highest recent sales rates were selected. Among these, 17 were large-sized enterprise brands found in department stores, and the other 17 were in-house production enterprise brands. All colors used in the logos of the selected brands were extracted from the brand logo images. In addition, the study classified the pursued images of the selected brands using emotional adjectives in order to assess variations in different color attributes of the logos according to the brand type and pursued image. The study found that in-house production enterprise brands used lighter and more varied colors compared to department store brands. For both brand types, reddish-to-yellowish hues were most commonly used. Brands projecting a 'cute' and 'gorgeous' image exhibited a greater array of colors in their logos, while brands with a 'neat', 'modern', and 'luxurious' image used less saturated colors. In terms of logo type, symbol logos used the most colors with a moderate level of lightness, while typographic logos used the fewest colors with a low level of lightness.

This study identifies the effects of the perceived risk by adolescents on fashion brand conformity for peer groups. Perceived risk, self-esteem, and gender were adopted as variables in order to analyze conformable fashion brand behavior with peer group consideration. A quantitative survey used 672 questionnaires from male and female students between the ages of 14 and 18. The data were analyzed using factor analysis and regression analysis. The results are as follows. First, the dimensions of the brand conformity and perceived risk were revealed. The brand conformity dimensions were normative, informational, and identificational conformity. The perceived risk dimensions were socio-psychological, economic, exchange-refund, performance, management, and fashion risks. Second, fashion (+) and performance (-) risk significantly affected three types of brand conformity. In addition, socio-psychological and economic risk positively affected informational brand conformity. Third, there were more factors of perceived risk that affected brand conformity in the highly self-esteemed group and in the female adolescent group.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of evaluative criteria and brand preferences by clothing purchasing motivations of Chinese female consumers. Data were obtained from 350 Chinese women in the 20's and 30's who were living in Shanghi, China. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, cluster analysis, and descriptive statistics using SPSS WIN 12.0. The results of this study were as follows. The clothing purchasing motivations of consumers were classified into 'hedonic,' 'utilitarian,' and 'economic' motivation. The evaluative criteria of clothing were classified into 'aesthetic/quality,' 'service/care,' and 'social status symbol' evaluative criteria. Chinese female consumers were divided into four groups by cluster analysis of clothing purchasing motivation; economic, practical hedonic, utilitarian, and inactive groups. There were significant differences in evaluative criteria of clothing, brand preference of foreign brand and Korean brand, and purchase intention among four groups. Practical hedonic and economic groups showed the highest means of evaluative criteria of clothing, foreign brand, Korea brand, and purchase intention of Korean apparel brand. This study provides implications into Korean fashion marketers for developing marketing strategies in China.

Purpose: The is study aimed to examine the impact of consumer ethnocentrism on reasoned action and brand equity on Generation Z in Vietnam. Research design, data and methodology: A quantitative study was undertaken on 302 Generation Z members. The data for the study was collected using a Google Form-based questionnaire from December 2021 to January 2022. Descriptive statistics, Cronbach's alpha, and structural equation modeling were among the data analysis techniques employed. The results: The results show that consumer ethnocentrism has a direct positive impact on reasoned action (subjective norms and attitude toward domestic goods) as well as an indirect positive impact on brand equity, including brand awareness, brand quality, and brand image. Major findings: According to the findings of this study, governments should continue to push propaganda and advocacy programs, call for national pride and encourage home consumers to support and use domestic goods. Domestic brands must strengthen their ties to the community and invest in community-oriented programs that promote domestic consumption. Vietnam's domestic fashion brands need to promote the exploitation of community-oriented and nationalistic content to call on domestic consumers to support them to consume domestic brands.
As SPA brands are growing in Korean apparel markets, they are extending their well-established brands into new markets (i.e., SPA brand extensions). To investigate psychological mechanism underlying SPA brand extensions, this study conceptually proposed such consumer information processing of SPA brand extensions as (1) perception of similarity between SPA brand extensions and their original brands and (2) evaluations on the SPA brand extensions (i.e., attitude and purchase intent). For hypothetical SPA brand extensions (high, moderate and low similarity conditions), perceived similarity was measured by using a eye-tracker and evaluations were assessed by using a self-reported questionnaire. The results reveal that the amount of external information searching for SPA brand extensions was larger in the following order: moderate, low and high similarity conditions. The depth of SPA brand information processing was also deeper in the same order. Evaluations on SPA brand extensions were higher in high and moderate similarity conditions than in low similarity condition. The findings suggest that the evaluations are affected by perceived similarity and the amount of cognitive efforts in processing SPA brand extensions.
