  • Purpose: At the moment prevention and treatment of animal related diseases is becoming a social concern as the demand for animal increases. Furthermore, The design of the veterinary medical teaching hospital are even more complex because they have to accommodate medical program for animal and education and research program for students. However, there are a few experience and useful guidelines for the planning of the veterinary medical teaching hospital. So it is not easy for the regional hub universities to work out the proper plan for the construction of the veterinary medical teaching hospital for their own. This study has been started in order to provide basic informations for the planning of Korean veterinary medical teaching hospital. Methods: Interview to veterinarian, intern and employee of the veterinary medical teaching hospital and Field surveys to veterinary medical teaching hospital in Korea have been conducted for the data collection. The drawings of three universities of veterinary medical teaching hospital have been analysed and diagramed. Results: The result of this study can be summarized into three points. The first one is that the veterinary medical teaching hospital spaces are divided into five areas (ambulatory care, central medical care, hospitalization, education and research, operations and support) and each area is divided independently and connected properly. The second one is that the veterinary medical teaching hospital differs from hospital in the detailed space plan in the sense that the animal is a patient. The third one is that each hospital has different operating practices and programs according to local conditions Implications: It is meaningful as a basic source of veterinary medical teaching hospital design in the future.

  • Purpose: The aim of this research was to identify the relationships between occupational stress, ethical dilemma, burnout and turnover intention and the factors influencing turnover intention in hospital nurses. Methods: The participants, 215 nurses, were recruited from two university hospitals located in two provinces of Korea. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 22.0. Results: Participants' scores for occupational stress, ethical dilemma, burnout and turnover intention were $3.96{\pm}0.45$, $2.60{\pm}0.39$, $3.71{\pm}0.70$, and $3.50{\pm}0.90$ respectively. The results show that the higher the score for occupational stress, ethical dilemma, and burnout the higher the score for turnover intention. The most important factor influencing turnover intention was burnout (${\beta}=.42$, p<.001), followed by position (${\beta}=.21$, p=.001), educational level (${\beta}=.21$, p=.007), ethical dilemma (${\beta}=.13$, p=.020) in that order. These factors explained 43.5% of total variance in turnover intention (F=19.34, p<.001). Conclusion: Changes in hospital structural management systems and support strategies should be developed and operated, taking into account burnout, ethical dilemma, and personal characteristics of clinical nurses in order to reduce turnover.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate pediatric nurses' perceptions regarding in end-of-life care and turnover intention. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed among 111 hospital nurses. Pediatric nurses' perceptions of obstacles and supportive behaviors were measured using the Pediatric Nurses' Perceptions of End of Life Care Questionnaire which was translated into Korean and turnover intention was measured using the Korean Nurse Turnover Intention Scale (K-NTIS). Results: The supportive behavior with the highest perceived magnitude was 'Physicians who are compassionate, but very clear about prognosis.' The obstacle with the highest perceived magnitude was 'Instigating painful treatments when there is no hope of recovery.' Pediatric nurses' perceptions of obstacles in end-of-life care showed statistically significant differences depending on whether nurses received end-of-life care education (t=2.02, p=.046). The perception of obstacles in end-of-life care was positively correlated with turnover intention (intensity r=.28, p=.002) (frequency r=.20, p=.027). Conclusion: These results suggest that pediatric nurses' perception of obstacles and supportive behaviors in end-of-life care need to be assessed when considering turnover intention. Furthermore, psychological counseling should be offered to nurses to prevent burnout and reduce moral distress which is correlated with the turnover rate.

The results of the study were summarized as follows. The subject profession group against which each profession group feels the most conflict in interprofession mutual recognition relation was found out as follows; Specialists(34%) against colleague specialists, residents(54.0%) against nurses, nurses(54.8%) against residents, radiologic technicians(44.0%) against residents, and clinicopathologic technicians(34.5%) against nurses, while it was shown that health record administrator felt even conflict against residents, nurses and administrative employees and administrative employees(48.1) did against nurses. Most employee group answered that medical specialists have a one-sided and individual attitude toward all affairs, while both medical specialists and administrative employees of hospital answered that nurses are one-sided. It was shown among such groups that radiologic technicians' conflict results from their thinking which mutual dependence and cooperation are lowest while individual difference is highest, clinicopatholigic technicians' conflict from the problem in mutual communication, medical specialists' conflict from difference in goals greater than other group, respectively lower than other group. The rate of vertical conflict between groups was highest for the health record administrators and then for the radiological technicians, while it was lowest for the medical specialists and then for the nurses. In addition, the rate of horizontal conflict was high for both medical specialists and nurses, but it was low for the health record administrations and clinicopathological technicians. The group with the highest job satisfaction was the medical specialists and nurses, and the group with the highest involvement in organization was the medical specialists and administrative employees. Also it was shown that both medical specialists and clinicopathological technicians show a favorable attitude toward patients. Factors having an effect on the vertical conflict included difference in goals, cooperation within group and leadership. It was shown among those factors, however, that only the leadership has an effect on all the groups evenly. The horizontal conflict was influenced by such factors as educational level, mutual dependence, difference in goals, cooperation within group, and individual difference, when an important factor was the difference in goals for all the groups. Their attitude toward patients was influenced by the vertical conflict and age, but the vertical conflict was the most significant factor for the medical specialists.
