  • Hemocytes in marine bivalves play important immunological roles in discrimination, opsonization and phagocytosis of foreign materials as a defense mechanism. In this study we report the flow cytometric implications to investigate the immune parameters such as the compositional and the functional characteristics of hemocytes isolated from the Manila clams, Ruditapes philippinarum. Heterogeneity of the hemocytic cell population was determined by the forward scatter (FSC) and side scatter (SSC) cytometric profile which showed three populations: granulocytes, hyalinocytes and small agranular cells. In addition, phagocytosis rate was measured after adding fluorescent-labeled particles. The data were initially analysed for two-parameters: FSC and SSC, then the fluorescent (FL 1) frequency distribution histogram of the hemocyte population was subsequently obtained.

  • In GNSS, the structure of the navigation message has been improved to increase the flexibility of data addition and transmission, and the robustness of message reception in a low SNR environment. GNSS signals currently being broadcast have a different message structure from each other, and the structure can be largely classified into the fixed structure, the packetized structure, and the packetized and fixed pattern structure. This paper analyzes the features of these three types of structures and compares the performance using the indicators. It can be seen that the performance after adopting the packetized structure is superior to those of other structures. In particular, there has been remarkable improvement in terms of the message management and transmission efficiency.

  • The Korean navy has made many efforts to apply the concepts of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and M&S to its naval design and production. However, most of the efforts that have being applied to some acquisition processes, focused only on the element technologies without information models and data frameworks. This study discusses an information model of naval ships for advanced naval acquisitions. We introduce a naval ship product model, and it refers to the DPD (Distributed Product Description) concept of SBA (Simulation-Based Acquisition). To realize the product model concept, we design a data architecture and develop a Product Model Management System (PMMS) based on a PDM System. It is validated through the case study of building the product model of the battle ship that the PMMS has the applicability to effectively manage the naval ship acquisition data on the basis of a 3D product model.

  • The safety-related raw water system's strong operational condition supports the radiation defense and biological shield of nuclear plant containment structures. Gaps and failures in maintaining proper working condition of main equipment like pump were among the most common causes of unavailability of safety related raw water systems. We integrated the advanced data analytics tools to evaluate the maintenance records of water systems and gave special consideration to deficiencies related to pump. We utilized maintenance data over a three-and-a-half-year period to produce metrics like MTBF, MTTF, MTTR, and failure rate. The visual analytic platform using tableau identified the efficacy of maintenance & deficiency in the safety raw water systems. When the number of water quality violation was compared to the other O&M deficiencies, it was discovered that water quality violations account for roughly 15% of the system's deficiencies. The pumps were substantial contributors to the deficit. Pump availability was predicted and optimized with real time data using response surface method. The prediction model was significant with r-squared value of 0.98. This prediction model can be used to predict forth coming pump failures in nuclear plant.

  • In 2010, the Ministry of National Defense decided to build a MegaCenter including the cloud computing technology by 2014, as part of the '2012 Information Service Plan', which is now underway. The Cloud computing system environment should be designed applying cloud computing technology and policy for an efficient infrastructure that many IT resources are available in the data center as a concentrated form. That is, the system should be designed in such a way that clouding services will be efficiently provided to meet the needs of users and there will not be unnecessary waste of resources. However, in order to build an optimal system, it should be possible to predict the service performance and the resource availability at the initial phase of system design. In this paper, using the CloudAnalyst simulator to predict availability of the K-defence cloud computing system service, conducts cloud modeling and analysis of the 'Facebook', one of the most famous social network service applications with most users in the world. An Optimal K-Defense cloud computing design model is proposed through simulation results.

  • The Operational Linescan System (OLS)sensor is a sensor aboard satellites launched through the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) that detects light in the visible and infrared bands emitted at night. Studies by several researchers have shown a high correlation between nighttime light data from OLS sensors and gross domestic product values. In this study, we investigated the correlation of nighttime light data with the total amount of individual land prices, which is one of the various indicators related to economic development. The study found that most cities and provinces showed a high correlation with a correlation coefficient of more than 0.7, and the correlation coefficient of 0.7837 between the total amount of individual land price and nighttime light data for the entire South Korea was also high. However, unlike other cities and provinces, Seoul has a low correlation coefficient of 0.5648 between nighttime light and the total amount of individual land price, which is analyzed as a reason that the digital number value of the OLS sensor is close to the maximum value and cannot show further brightness changes. This study is expected to help identify announced land prices in areas where announced land prices are not systematically organized and to analyze land use changes in such areas.

  • Because the USV(Unmanned Surface Vehicle) is capable of remote control or autonomous navigation at sea, it can secure the superiority of combat power while minimizing human losses in a future combat environment. To plan the technology for the development of USV, the trend analysis of related technology and the selection of promising technology should be preceded, but there has been little research in this area. The purpose of this paper was to measure and evaluate the technology trends quantitatively. For this purpose, this study analyzed the technology trends and selected promising/declining technologies using topic modeling of papers and patent data. As a result of topic modeling, promising technologies include control and navigation, verification/validation, autonomous level, mission module, and application technology, and declining technologies include underwater communication and image processing technology. This study also identified new technology areas that were not included in the existing technology classification, e.g., technology related to research and development of USV, artificial intelligence, launch/recovery, and operation, such as cooperation with manned and unmanned systems. The technology trends and new technology areas identified through this study may be used to derive key technologies related to the development of the USV and establish appropriate R&D policies.

  • One of the missions of active-duty units in charge of managing reserve forces is providing combat supplies to reserve forces to exercise their combat capabilities quickly when declaring a mobilization order. Rear area active-duty units must support large local reserve forces. On the other hand, military units have difficulties due to a lack of forces and the storage of large quantities of firearms and ammunition. For this reason, local reserve forces should move to an integrated storing place and receive their firearms and ammunition. The existing distribution plan (existing plan) is a first-in-first-out plan that can produce inconsistent distribution orders. The inconsistent distribution orders can increase the complete distribution time, which will affect the combat power of local reserve forces. Therefore, firearms and ammunition should be distributed quickly. Accordingly, this paper proposes the priority selection of firearms and ammunition for local reserve forces with a minimum complete distribution time using Dynamic Programming. To verify the proposed model, the existing plan was compared with the proposed model using real data, and the result showed that the proposed model outperformed the existing plan.

  • The microphysics and spatio-temporal distribution of atmospheric aerosols are responsible for estimating the optical properties at a given location. Its accurate estimation is essential to plan efficient simulation for radiative transfer. For this sake, synergetic use of reanalysis data with optics database was used as a potential tool to precisely derive the aerosol model on the basis of the major representative particulates exist within a model grid. In detail, mixing of aerosol types weighted by aerosol optical depth (AOD) components has been developed. This synergetic aerosol model (SAM) is spectrally extended up to $40{\mu}m$. For the major aerosol event cases, SAM showed that the mixed aerosol particles were totally different from the typical standard aerosol models provided by the radiative transfer model. The correlation among the derived aerosol optical properties along with ground-based observation data has also been compared. The current results will help to improve the radiative transfer model simulation under the real atmospheric environment.

  • Objectives: This article intends to describe the status of and challenges for physical activity in Korean university students. Methods: National level secondary data and related articles were reviewed including KNHANES(Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) and Online Youth Health Behavior Survey. Four tables and two figures were generated from original data and related articles. Results: The proportion of Korean university students practicing regular physical activity appear to be about half of that in American students. Gender difference in physical activity practicing rate seems to be maintained in university years. The main reason for physical inactivity was that physical activity was bothersome. The trends of physical activity practice in Korean students since middle school years needs further research. Conclusions: To increase the rate of physical activity in Korean university students, evidence-based comprehensive approaches are needed including campaign and informational approaches, behavioral and social approaches and policy and environmental approaches adapted to Korean university students.
