The architecture in a differentiated services (DiffServ) network is based on a simple model that applies a per-class service in the core node of the network. However, because the network behavior is simple, the network structure and provisioning is complicated. If a service provider wants dynamic provisioning or a better bandwidth guarantee, the differentiated services network must use a signaling protocol with QoS parameters or an admission control method. Unfortunately, these methods increase the complexity. To overcome the problems with complexity, we investigated scalable dynamic provisioning for admission control in DiffServ networks. We propose a new scalable $qDPM^2$ mechanism based on a centralized bandwidth broker and distributed measurement-based admission control and movable boundary bandwidth management to support heterogeneous QoS requirements in DiffServ networks.
In this paper, we propose methods for designing the Virtual Private Network (VPN) which guarantees a strict Quality of Service (QoS) over A TM networks. The required Quality of Service is a very strict Cell Loss Probability, and it is guaranteed by pro riding equivalent bandwidth which is computed so that the provided bandwidth is sufficient to guarantee that requirement. We consider two network architectures for constructing VPM, the customer pipe scheme and the Hose scheme, and we propose a method to compute the amount of the required bandwidth for the two schemes. Finally, we investigate the implication of the scheme via numerical experiments.
In the global Internet, a constraint-based routing algorithm performs the function of selecting a routing path while satisfying some given constraints rather than selecting the shortest path based on physical topology. It is necessary for constraint-based routing to disseminate and update link state information. The triggering policy of link state updates significantly affects the volume of update traffic and the quality of services (QoS). In this letter, we propose an adaptive triggering policy based on link-usage statistics in order to reduce the volume of link state update traffic without deterioration of QoS. Also, we evaluate the performance of the proposed policy via simulations.
Recently broadband convergence network technology is emerging as an integrated network of telecommunication, broadcasting and Internet. But there are various threats as side effects against the growth of information technology, and malicious codes such af Internet worms may bring about confusions to upset a national backbone network. In this paper, we survey the traditional spreading models and propose a new worm spreading model on Internet environment. We also analyze the spreading effects due to tile spread period and the response period of Internet worms. The proposed model leads to a better prediction of the scale and speed of worm spreading. It can be applied to high-speed network such as broadband convergence network.

Nowadays communication network is steadily changing from a main body of telephone to a network which is creating new services such as multimedia etc. Jhis article introduces a bud of new service and new network which are able to sustain the above service. Including Korea, world advanced countries have been digitatizing their network with N-ISDN (narrowband ISDN) by e.g. 64K b/s and 1.5M b/s. New service by N-ISDN are extraordinary, though it can not solve all kinds of services. To solve these problems, a solving platform should be constituted. B-ISDN(broadband ISDN), as a platform has to be built to deal with almost all uinds of services, whatever the communication speed, communication mode or communication quality may be. Korea Telecommunication Authority(KTA) opened the narrowband ISDN(N-ISDN) at the end of 1993. This was one step previous opening of the broadband ISDN(B-ISDN) service scheduled to be rendered in 2001. B-ISDN, receiving and transmitting by far more information with high speed than the N-NSDN does, is one of G-7 Progects which the Korean government is driving foreward to raise the national scientific power to seven advan ced countries. This is also linked with an extremely high speed information network scheduled to be built by the Ministry of Communications in 2015.
Joint time-frequency images of the broadband acoustic echoes of six fish species were obtained using the smoothed pseudo-Wigner-Ville distribution (SPWVD). The acoustic features were extracted by changing the sliced window widths and dividing the time window by a 0.02-ms interval and the frequency window by a 20-kHz bandwidth. The 22 spectrum amplitudes obtained in the time and frequency domains of the SPWVD images were fed as input parameters into an artificial neural network (ANN) to verify the effectiveness for species-dependent features related to fish species identification. The results showed that the time-frequency approach improves the extraction of species-specific features for species identification from broadband echoes, compare with time-only or frequency-only features. The ANN classifier based on these acoustic feature components was correct in approximately 74.5% of the test cases. In the future, the identification rate will be improved using time-frequency images with reduced dimensions of the broadband acoustic echoes as input for the ANN classifier.
As the community antenna television (CATV) networks becomes ubiquitous, instead of constructing an entirely new broadband network infrastructure, it has emerged as one of the rapid and economic technologies to interconnecting heterogeneous network to provide broadband access to subscribers. How to support ubiquitous real-time multimedia applications, especially in a heavy traffic environment, becomes a critical issue in modern CATV networks. In this paper, we propose a time guaranteed and efficient upstream minislots allocation algorithm for supporting quality-of-service (QoS) traffic over data over cable service interface specification (DOCSIS) CATV networks to fulfill the needs of realtime interactive services, such as video telephony, video on demand (VOD), distance learning, and so on. The proposed adaptive fast expansion algorithm and the loading statistics with dynamic swapping algorithm have been shown to perform better than that of the multimedia cable network system (MCNS) DOCSIS.
Automatic discovery of physical topology plays a crucial role in enhancing the manageability of modern metro Ethernet networks. Despite the importance of the problem, earlier research and commercial network management tools have typically concentrated on either discovering logical topology, or proprietary solutions targeting specific product families. Recent works have demonstrated that network topology can be determined using the standard simple network management protocol (SNMP) management information base (MIB), but these algorithms depend on address forwarding table (AFT) entries and can find only spanning tree paths in an Ethernet mesh network. A previous work by Breibart et al. requires that AFT entries be complete; however, that can be a risky assumption in a realistic Ethernet mesh network. In this paper, we have proposed a new physical topology discovery algorithm which works without complete knowledge of AFT entries. Our algorithm can discover a complete physical topology including inactive interfaces eliminated by the spanning tree protocol in metro Ethernet networks. The effectiveness of the algorithm is demonstrated by implementation.
Synchronization Markup Language (SyncML) is a specification of a common data synchronization framework for synchronizing data on networked devices. SyncML is designed for use between mobile devices that are intermittently connected to a network and network services that are continuously available on the network. We have designed and developed a data synchronization system based on the SyncML protocol and evaluated the throughput of the system using the stochastic Petri nets package (SPNP) and analyzed the relationship between the arrival rate and the system resources. Using this model, we evaluate various performance measures in different situations, and we estimate the relationship between the arrival rate and the system resources. From the results, we can estimate the optimal amount of resources due to the arrival rate before deploying the developed system.
In this paper, a two-stage single-ended power amplifier (PA) with broadband gain characteristics was presented by utilizing a radio frequency (RF) transformer (TF), which is essential for a differential amplifier. The bandwidth of a PA can be improved by designing TF to have broadband characteristics and then applying it to the inter-stage matching network (IMN) of a PA. For broadband gain characteristics while maintaining the performance and area of the existing PA, an IMN was implemented on an monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) and a multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB), and the simulation results were compared. As a result of simulating the PA module designed using InGaP/GaAs HBT model, it has been confirmed that the PA employing the proposed design method has an improved fractional bandwidth of 19.8% at a center frequency of 3.3GHz, while the conventional PA showed that of 11.2%.
