  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the moderating role of Ego-Resilience between Peer Attachment and Mobile Phone Dependency in late adolescence. Methods: The participants were 2056 third year high school adolescents (1,041 boys and 1,015 girls) from the Korea Youth Panel Study (KYPS), a national representative of Korean Children and adolescence. Hierarchical Regression was used for data analysis. Results: First, the correlation between peer attachment, ego-resilience and mobile phone dependency were all significant. Second, ego-resilience takes the role of moderator for mobile phone dependency. In detail, ego-resilience relieves the mobile phone dependency caused by 'peer relationships' or 'conflict in peer relationships. Conclusion/Implications: Ego-resilience was found to control the relationship between peer attachment and mobile phone dependency. Therefore, in order to lower the dependence of mobile phones in adolescents with low peer attachment, a program that can enhance ego-resilience is needed.

  • This study aimed to improve mother-child attachment relationship by goal-corrected partnership. The subjects of this study were three 5- to 6-year-old children with insecure attachment patterns and their mothers. The Mother-Child Attachment Intervention Program with Applied Sand-Play Therapy consisted of two steps, sand-play therapy for each mother and child for 8 sessions and three different intervention activities(activities for children only, mother education activities and mother-child cooperative activities) conducted for 12 sessions. Each of the therapy and the activity sessions ran for 40 and 80 minutes weekly. After completing the program, the mothers' representation of their parents changed positively, but the changes depended on their attachment classifications. All of the mothers' warm/responsive parenting behaviors increased despite some individual differences.

  • Subjects were 2192 middle and high school students of Seoul and Kyonggi Province. Data, consisting of a self-report questionnaire, were analyzed by two-way ANOVA, univariate F-test and stepwise multiple regression. Findings were that boys showed more avoidance/distraction and active problem solving styles but less support seeking than girls. Older adolescents reported less parent attachment than younger adolescents; girls reported more mother attachment than boys. Older adolescents reported more life satisfaction than younger adolescents; girls reported more life satisfaction than boys. A higher degree of life satisfaction was reported by subjects with more parent attachment, more active problem solving and less avoidance/distraction styles, by younger adolescents, and by girls. Degree of parent attachment was the most powerful predictor of adolescents' satisfaction with life.

  • This study was aimed at investigating the gender differences in the relationships among parental attachment, educational gender egalitarianism, and achievement motivation in university students in Korea. A total of 338 students from the Seoul and Kyungnam areas participated in this study. The results found that male students showed lower levels of mother attachment and educational egalitarianism and higher levels of achievement motivation compared to female students. For female students, parental attachment and educational egalitarianism were significantly correlated with achievement motivation; however, no such relationships were detected in male students. For male students, social and demographic variables were more predictive of achievement motivation than attachment or educational egalitarianism.

  • This study attempted to investigate the influence of psychological separation and parental attachment of school resilience of middle school students. Although six hundred forty two middle school students participated in this study, final subjects of this study were 492(male, 243; female, 249) ones. Participants completed Psychological Separation Inventory, Parental Attachment Inventory and School Resilience Scale. Collected data were statistically analyzed using t-test, product moment correlation coefficient and multiple regression. The results of analyses revealed psychological separation statistically significantly predicted school resilience of middle school students and parental attachment statistically significantly predicted school resilience of middle school students. Based upon above results, it is concluded that psychological separation and parental attachment can be useful protective factors for school resilience. The implications of these results were discussed and future research questions were suggested with several comments on limitations of this study.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the causal relations among attachment, and school adjustment influencing psychological well-being in middle school students. The data contains 564 middle school students. The statistical techniques were correlation analysis and structural equation modeling. To summarize the results, the correlations among attachment, school adjustment and psychological well-being were significant. The results of the structural equation modeling show that students's attachment and school adjustment had direct positive influence on psychological well-being. These results imply that perceived attachment, school adjustment influence adolescents' psychological well-being.

Methods: A survey using a structured questionnaire was conducted with 245 nurses who work in one of six general hospitals. Additionally, a qualitative method was used to obtain data on experiences in interpersonal relations. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WINdows 14.0 and qualitative data from open question in the survey questionnaire were analyzed using content analysis. Results: There was a significant difference in interpersonal relations, hope, and professional self-concept according to adult attachment styles. In the interpersonal relation of early stage nurses, 8 themes were identified, of which the most frequent were: a comfortable relationship with my co-workers (43%) and stress from the relationship (34%). Conclusion: Findings from this study should be useful in the development of programs to promote adult attachment and professional self-concept for early stage nurses.

In addition, this study investigated the mediating effect of parental attachment in relation to anger and other variable. Methods: Data were collected from 112 subjects in grade 4 or 6, and descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierachical multiple regression were used with SPSS/PC 18.0 program to analyze the data. Results: There was a significantly positive effects between state-trait anger and psychosomatic symptoms. Father attachment negatively correlated state-trait anger and psychosomatic symptoms. Also, mother attachment negatively correlated state anger and psychosomatic symptoms. However, maternal attachment was not significantly associated with trait anger. Parental attachment had a significant mediating effect in relation to state-trait anger and psychosomatic symptoms. Conclusions: For the effective management of multi-cultural children's psychosomatic symptoms, programs including parental attachment increasing strategies should be established. These programs can increase parental attachment security which is mediator role between anger and psychosomatic symptoms.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of discriminating a high level of school adjustment in low-income school-aged children using interpersonal-related variables(mother attachment, peer attachment) and self-related variables(ego-resiliency, self-control). The subjects were 335 children in fourth, fifth and sixth grades in 4 elementary schools in Daegu. Mean(SD), t-test, and stepwise discriminant analysis were used for data analysis. Base on the results of the discriminant analysis, the discriminant functions suggested that the best predictor for distinguishing between a high level of school adjustment in low-income school-aged children and a low level of school adjustment was ego-resiliency. Self-control, mother attachment and peer attachment reliably separated the groups. And using ego-resiliency, self-control, mother attachment and peer attachment as predictors, the discriminant analysis correctly classified 92.3% of the participants.

  • This study examined the relationships between place attachment to home, acculturative stress, and psychological adjustment among Korean youth in the United States. In particular, this study sought to better understand how place attachment to home and acculturation stress impacts upon youth's psychological adjustment, as measured by depression and self-esteem. The subjects consisted of 225 Korean youths (113 males and 111 females) residing in Michigan in the USA, of whom 47.6% attended middle school while 52.4% of whom attended high school. The instruments utilized were the acculturative stress scale (Sandhu and Asrabadi, 1994), the place attachment scale (Choi, Lee, & Han, 2009), Radloff's depression scale (CES-D), and Rosenberg's self-esteem scale. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses were used to assess the predictive effects of place attachment to home and acculturative stress on youth's psychological adjustment, alongside controlling demographic variables. The findings indicated that place attachment to home and acculturative stress impacted upon depression and self-esteem, as experienced by the youths examined. These results have implications for our understanding of the importance of both youths' place attachment to home and acculturative stress in the acculturation process.
