The rapid proliferation of in-home and office information applications and services is driving the need for new wireless technologies enabling wideband short range multimedia communications. Due to the growing demand for higher quality media and faster wireless connections, several IEEE standardization groups are considering very high data rate alternatives physical layer(s) for Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN). The Ultra Wide Band (UWB) multiple access technology based on very narrow pulse transmission, is one viable candidate for these applications providing very high bit rates services, low power consumption and accurate positioning capability. In this paper we provide a methodology to evaluate the UWB system BER performance in UWB wireless fading networks with power controlled UWB devices are considered. Results can be used to analyze the performance of a given network topology and to provide useful design ideas for an UWB home sensor network.

In discrete multi-tone (DMT)-based very high bit-rate digital subscriber line (VDSL) systems, the ingressed RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) accompanied by transmitted signal at the receiver is known to cause the spectralleakage by the finite-point FFT, resulting in significant performance degradation.0 this paper, we propose a RFIcancellation technique which can compensate the ingressed RFI efficiently, especially for a high data-rate VDSLsystem. The proposed technique compensates the performance degradation of e VDSL system due to RFI byusing a time-domain RFI canceller whose coefficients are obtained from the estimated center frequency of RFI inthe frequency domain under the assumption that the ingressed RFI is a narrow-band signal compared to VDSLsampling frequency. The proposed technique requires no training symbol and convergence period, and worksproperly even when spectral shape of the ingressed RFI is unknown or arbitrary. Feasibility of the proposedtechnique is demonstrated via a computer simulation by comparing its performance with the performance of theprevious RFI cancellation technique.

From 2010 to 2014, CQUEAN (Camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse) has been operated for the observation at the 82 inch Otto Struve Telescope of the McDonald Observatory, US. This camera is optimized at wavelength range of 0.7 - 1.1 um with seven (g', r', I', z', Y, Iz and Is) broad-band filters for the survey of high redshift (z > 5) quasars in the early universe. We are upgrading this system to identify more details of SED (Spectral Energy Distribution) of quasar candidates and other astronomical sources. The SQUEAN is comprised of a focal reducer, a CCD camera, a new filter wheel, new auto guiding system and new control software. The new filter wheel consists of interchangeable cartridges for various wavelength and size of filters. 50 nm medium bandwidth filters from 600 - 1050 nm, seven SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey) filters and Johnson-Cousin BVRI filters are installed for now. We also have a plan to use narrow band interference filters to classify high redshift quasars or to obtain SEDs of interesting astronomical sources in details more efficiently. We also developed KAP82 (Kyung Hee University Auto guiding Package for 82 inch telescope) for auto guiding software. CQUEAN and SQUEAN have been developed by CEOU (Center for the Exploration of the Origin of the Universe).
We have developed a daytime measuring rotational Raman LIDAR system for temperature measurement. To decrease the background signal from sunlight, we have designed and installed narrow band (0.5 nm) and high rejection ($10^{-6}$) rate band pass filter system using a grating and an interference filter. We calibrated our system by comparing our horizontal temperature profile and KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) data. We have found that our temperature profile has a good correlation with KMA data within our theoretically expected variance. And we have used these calibration values in obtaining a vertical temperature distribution. To check our system, we also have compared our vertical temperature data with US standard atmospheric temperature profile. We also have compared our temperature profile with sonde data.
The IBAC (In-Band Adjacent-Channel) DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) system is to provide multichannel CD quality audio services and multimedia data services including text and picture in FM band (88~105 MHz). As the FM band is being used by the existing analog radio broadcasting, there must he an analysis of the interference effect between IBAC DAB and analog FM signal. Therefore, the protection ratio should be evaluated to verify the system compatibility and allocate the new IBAC DAB channel in FM band. In this paper, among the three types of interferences, FM-to-DAB, DAB-to-FM and DAB-to-DAB, that can be occurred, the Protection ratio of IBAC DAB system for co-channel FM interferer is analyzed by modeling the FM interferer and considering the multipath fading channel. The simulation results show that IBAC DAB system has far better sensitivity than Eureka 147 and needs a relatively high protection ratio for co-channel FM interferer, because of its narrow bandwidth, about one third of that of Eureka 147.

Due to the increasing demand for high data multimedia service, there has been progressing study of adaptive smart antenna to increase both the performance and capacity using limited wireless resource. IS-95 scheme in the origin of cdma2000 of IMT-2000 standard uses signals of spreading and Walsh-Orthogonal Modulation in reverse link. But, in the case of reverse lint there exists difficulty in synchronous of signals transmitted from users. Therefore, orthogonality between users is not satisfied. So, asynchronous MC-CDMA scheme may yield low performance. In this paper, MC/DS-CDMA scheme to reverse link transmission in adaptive array antenna environment is proposed for spreading the S/P-converted data streams using a given spreading code. Due to frequency diversity effect, simulation results show that the proposed system provides improved BER performance and narrow band interference supple psi on.

The OFDM system has better characteristics in transmission rate, power efficiency, bandwidth efficiency, impulse-noise immunity, and narrow band interference immunity etc. in comparison with other conventional systems. However, high PAPR of an OFDM signals causes some serious non-linear processing of RF amplifier. And performance of the communication system gets worse. Therefore, various methods reducing PAPR of an OFDM skills such as the clipping method, block coding method, and phase rotation method etc. have been researched. In this paper, we propose a high-speed adaptive PTS method which eliminates high PAPR. And we compare the proposed method with other conventional methods. The proposed method has decreased quantity of calculation compare with an adaptive PTS method. Of course, The more its calculation amount is decreased, the more its BER characteristic is not better than an adaptive PTS method. However, keeping up satisfactory BER performance, we highly improved calculation amount of a PTS method.

For orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems sharing the spectrum with narrow band primary devices, a fractional bandwidth (FBW) mode has been proposed recently to reduce the interference to the primary users. The FBW mode divides the total OFDM bandwidth into subbands and activates (or deactivates) a subset of the subbands according to the result of spectrum sensing. In this paper, we analyze the detection error probability of FBW mode information which is delivered by the sequence embedded in the preamble and evaluate the performance in wireless regional area network environments. The results show that the detection probability derived analytically estimates the actual value from simulation adequately and that a low detection error probability less than $10^{-3}$ is obtained at a low signal-to-noise power ratio.

The assessment of wind-induced motion plays an important role in the development and design of the majority of today's structures that push the limits of engineering knowledge. A vital part of the design is the prediction of wind-induced tall building motion and the assessment of its effects on occupant comfort. Little of the research that has led to the development of the various international standards for occupant comfort criteria have considered the effects of the low-frequency motion on task performance and interference with building occupants' daily activities. It has only recently become more widely recognized that it is no longer reasonable to assume that the level of motion that a tall building undergoes in a windstorm will fall below an occupants' level of perception and little is known about how this motion perception could also impact on task performance. Experimental research was conducted to evaluate the performance of individuals engaged in a manual tracking task while subjected to low level vibration in the frequency range of 0.125 Hz-0.50 Hz. The investigations were carried out under narrow-band random vibration with accelerations ranging from 2 milli-g to 30 milli-g (where 1 milli-g = 0.0098 $m/s^2$) and included a control condition. The frequencies and accelerations simulated are representative of the level of motion expected to occur in a tall building (heights in the range of 100 m -350 m) once every few months to once every few years. Performance of the test subjects with and without vibration was determined for 15 separate test conditions and evaluated in terms of time taken to complete a task and accuracy per trial. Overall, the performance under the vibration conditions did not vary significantly from that of the control condition, nor was there a statistically significant degradation or improvement trend in performance ability as a function of increasing frequency or acceleration.

Beamforming for underwater acoustic communication (UAC) is affected by the broadband feature of UAC signal, which has relatively low currier frequency as compared to the signal bandwidth. The narrow-band assumption does not hold good in UAC. In this paper, we discuss a broadband FIR beamformer for UAC using the baseband equivalent way signal model. We consider the broadband FIR beamformer for QPSK UAC with carrier frequency 25kHz and symbol rate 5kHz. Array geometry is a uniform linear way with 8 omni-directional elements and sensor spacing is the half of the carrier wavelength. The simulation results show that the broadband n beamformer achieves nearly optimum signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) and outperforms the conventional narrowband beamformer by SINR 0.5dB when two-tap FIR filter is employed at each sensor and the inter-tap delay is a quarter of the symbol interval. The broadband FIR beamformer performance is more degraded as the FIR filter length is increased above a certain value. If the inter-tap delay is not greater than half of the symbol period, SINR performance does not depend on the inter-tap delay. More training period is required when the inter-tap delay is same as the symbol period.
