In this study, we investigated plasmon effects to maximize the sterilization of dielectric discharge. We predicted the effect using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method as a function of electrode shape, size, and period. The structure of the electrode was designed with a thickness of 100 nm of silver nanoparticles on a glass substrate, and was varied according to the shape, size, and period of the electrode hole. Based on the results, it was confirmed that the effect of plasmons was independent of the shape of the electrode hole. It was thus confirmed that the plasmon effect depended only on the size and period of the holes. Further, the plasmon effect was affected by the size rather than period of the holes. Because the absorption of light by the metal varied according to the size of the hole, the plasmon effect generated by the absorption of light also varied. The best results were obtained when the radius and period of the electrode holes were $0.1{\mu}m$ and $0.4{\mu}m$, respectively.
In order to increase the magnetic loss for electromagnetic(EM) wave absorption, the soft magnetic $Fe_{73}Si_{16}B_7Nb_3Cu_1$(at%) alloy strip was used as the basic material in this study. The melt-spun strip was pulverized using an attrition mill, and the pulverized flake-shaped powder was crystallized at $540^{\circ}C$ for 1h to obtain the optimum grain size. The Fe-based powder was mixed with 2 wt% $BaTiO_3$, $0.3{\sim}0.6$ wt% carbon black, and polymer-based binders for the improvement of electromagnetic wave absorption properties. The mixture powders were tape-cast and dried to form the absorption sheets. After drying at $100^{\circ}C$ for 1h, the sheets of 0.5 mm in thickness were made by rolling at $60^{\circ}C$, and cut into toroidal shape to measure the absorption properties of samples. The characteristics including permittivity, permeability and power loss were measured using a Network Analyzer(N5230A). Consequently, the properties of electromagnetic wave absorber were improved with the addition of both $BaTiO_3$ and carbon black powder, which was caused by the increased dielectric loss of the additive powders.
The chemical synthesis of anisotropic defective polyaniline/Ag composite (PANI/Ag) is explored using silver nitrate ($AgNO_3$) as the precursor material. This study provides a simple method for the formation of PANI/Ag nanocomposites at two different aniline concentrations $5{\mu}l$ (PANC5) and $10{\mu}l$ (PANC10). The composite PANC5 exhibits UV-Visible absorption peaks at 436 nm and 670 nm whereas, PANC10 exhibits absorption peaks at 446 nm and 697 nm. This shift is caused by the strong interaction between polyaniline and silver. The characterized FTIR peaks observed at around $3410cm^{-1}$ (PANC5) and $3420cm^{-1}$ (PANC10) was due to the N-H stretching vibrations. The appearance of a broad band instead of a sharp peak can be attributed due to the presence of a high concentration of N-H groups in the nanocomposite. The TEM images show that the sample contains defective spherical, truncated triangular and rod shaped particles. The results showed that the PANI/Ag nanocomposites are composed of nano-sized particles of 43-53 nm that contain Ag domains of 33-37 nm with polymer thickness 5.7-11.2 nm at two different aniline concentrations.
We establish a visible light emission from porous polycrystalline silicon nano structure(PPNS). The PPNS layer are formed on heavily doped n-type Si substrate. 2um thickness of undoped polycrystalline silicon deposited using LPCVD (Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition) anodized in a HF: ethanol(=1:1) as functions of anodizing conditions. And then a PPNS layer thermally oxidized for 1 hr at $900^{\circ}C$. Subsequently, thin metal Au as a top electrode deposited onto the PPNS surface by E-beam evaporator and, in order to establish ohmic contact, an thermally evaporated Al was deposited on the back side of a Si-substrate. When the top electrode biased at +6V, the electron emission observed in a PPNS which caused by field-induces electron emission through the top metal. Among the PPNSs as functions of anodization conditions, the PPNS anodized at a current density of $10mA/cm^{2}$ for 20 sec has a lower turn-on voltage and a higher emission current. Furthermore, the behavior of electron emission is uniformly maintained.
Metal-Insulator-Metal(MIM) capacitors have been studied extensively for next generation of high-density dynamic random access memory (DRAM) devices. Of several candidates for metal electrodes, Ru or its conducting oxide $RuO_2$ is the most promising material due to process maturity, feasibility, and reliability. ALD can be used to form the Ru and RuO2 electrode because of its inherent ability to achieve high level of conformality and step coverage. Moreover, it enables precise control of film thickness at atomic dimensions as a result of self-limited surface reactions. Recently, ALD processes for Ru and $RuO_2$, including plasma-enhanced ALD, have been studied for various semiconductor applications, such as gate metal electrodes, Cu interconnections, and capacitor electrodes. We investigated Ru/$RuO_2$ thin films by thermal ALD with various deposition parameters such as deposition temperature, oxygen flow rate, and source pulse time. Ru and $RuO_2$ thin films were grown by ALD(Lucida D150, NCD Co.) using RuDi as precursor and O2 gas as a reactant at $200\sim350^{\circ}C$.
We have studied the effects of Ag on the characteristics of $Sn_{43}Bi_{57}Ag_x$(wt%) lead-free solders for photovoltaic ribbon. Ag atoms in the solder formed an alloy phase of Ag3Sn after reacting with some part of Sn atoms, while they did not react with Bi atoms, but decreased the mean size of Bi solid phase and the thickness of solder. When Ag atoms of 3.0 wt% was added to eutectic $Sn_{43}Bi_{57}$(wt%) solder, it showed the optimally useful results that the peel strength of photovoltaic ribbon greatly increased and the sheet resistance of the solder decreased. In the meanwhile, the eutectic $Sn_{43}Bi_{57}$(wt%) solder showed a low melting temperature of $138.9^{\circ}C$, and showed a very similar result regardless of the added amount of Ag atoms.
We suggest and simulate an optical filter that a red wavelength range cannot transmit to protect the psychological stress that originates from the cognition of red color in emergency medical technicians. When a nanohole hexagonal array is fabricated on gold film using Anodic Aluminum Oxide (AAO), the blocked wavelength can be tuned by the hole diameter and film thickness. The characteristic of the transmittance for normal incident white light is simulated with Finite Element Method (FEM) in the MATLAB platform. Although the transmittance of the overall wavelength is reduced by 50% by the gold film, the transmittance of the red wavelength range is decreased by over 87%.
High temperature alloy steel such as Ni-Cr-Mo-V material has excellent properties of high strength and high heating resistance. It has been used for several military weapon components such as gun barrel of a warship, turbine rotor and turbine disk for nuclear power plant. Being curious about this material required excellent wear resistance and durability in extreme environmental conditions. A dry wear test at the ambient air and Ar gas conditions in the room temperature were performed in this study. What's more a lubricant wear test at different temperature was conducted. In addition that DLC was coated on Ni-Cr-Mo-V alloy steel substrate with a thickness of $3{\mu}m$, a property of it was compare with lubricant conditions. All the coefficient of friction and wear volume, comparing with DLC coated specimens. The test parameters were selected as follows: 10 N for normal load; 80 rpm for sliding wear speed; and 300 m for the sliding wear distance.
Silicon carbide ceramics are used for oxidation resistive coating films due to their excellent properties like high strength, good oxidation resistance, and good abrasion resistance, but they have poor formability and are prepared by vapor process which is complicated, costly, and sometimes hazardous. In this study, preparation of silicon carbide coating film by liquid process using polymer precursor was attempted. Coating film was prepared by dip coating on substrate followed by heat treatment in argon at $1200^{\circ}C$. By changing the dipping speed, the thickness was controlled. The effects of plasticizer, binder, or fiber addition on suppression of crack generation in the polymer and ceramic films were examined. It was found that fiber additives was effective for suppressing crack generation.
Nano-crystalline Si thin films were deposited on polymer and glass by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) - assisted RF magnetron sputtering at low temperature in an argon and hydrogen atmosphere. Internal ICP coil was installed to increase hydrogen atoms dissociated by the induced magnetic field near the inlet of the working gases. The microstructure of deposited films was investigated with XRD, Raman spectroscopy and TEM. The crystalline volume fraction of the deposited films on polymer was about 70% at magnetron RF power of 600W and ICP RF power of 500W. Crystalline volume fraction was decreased slightly with increasing magnetron RF power due to thermal damage by ion bombardment. The diffraction peak consists of two peaks at $28.18^{\circ}$ and $47.10^{\circ}\;2{\theta}$ at magnetron RF power of 600W and ICP RF power of 500W, which correspond to the (111), (220) planes of crystalline Si, respectively. As magnetron power increase, (220) peak disappeared and a dominant diffraction plane was (111). In case of deposited films on glass, the diffraction peak consists of three peaks, which correspond to the (111), (220) and (311). As the substrate temperature increase, dominant diffraction plane was (220) and the thickness of incubation (amorphous) layer was decreased.
