  • WC-12-17%Co powders with nano- and micro-structures were deposited by cold spray process using nitrogen and helium gases. The results show that there is no detrimental phase transformation and/or decarburization of WC by cold spray deposition as expected. It is also observed that nano-sized WC in the feedstock powder is maintained in the cold spray deposition. It is demonstrated that it is possible to fabricate the nano-structured WC-Co coating with low porosity and very high hardness (-2050 HV) by cold spray deposition with reasonable powder preheating.

  • The phenomenon of electrical explosion of conductors is considered in the context of the changes in the energy and structural states of the metal at the stages of energy delivery and relaxation of the primary products of EEC. It is shown that these changes are related to the forced interaction of an intense energy flux with matter and to the subsequent spontaneous relaxation processes. The characteristics of nano-sized metal powders are also discussed. The preferential gas media during EEC is Ar+$H_2$. An increase in $e/e_s$ (in the range of values studied) leads to a reduction in the metal content. For reactive powders obtained with high metal content, it is necessary to separate the SFAP fractions, which settled on the negative electrode of the electric filter.

  • Densification behavior of nano-agglomerate powder during pressureless sintering of Fe-Ni nanopowder was investigated in terms of diffusion kinetics and microstructural development. To understand the role of agglomerate boundary for sintering process, densification kinetics of Fe-Ni nano-agglomerate powder with different agglomerate size was investigated. It was found that activation energy for densification was lower in the small-sized agglomerate powder. The increase in the volume fraction of inter-agglomerate boundary acting as high diffusion path might be responsible for the enhanced diffusion process.

  • Pure and nano-sized $TiO_2$ and $CaTiO_3$ powders were fabricated by a polymeric steric entrapment route and planetary milling process. An ethylene glycol was used as a polymeric carrier for the preparation of organic-inorganic precursors. Titanium isopropoxide and calcium nitrate were dissolved in liquid-type ethylene glycol without any precipitation. At the optimum amount of the polymer, the metal cations were dispersed in solution and a homogeneous polymeric network was formed. The dried precursor ceramic gels were turned to porous powders through calcination process. The porous powders were crystallized at low temperatures and the crystalline powders were planetary milled to nano size.

  • $LiCoO_2$ cathode powders with round particle shaped and nano grain sized of 70-300nm were synthesized by a mechanochemical method. The surface of Li-Co precursor prepared by freeze drying method was modified by $K_2SO_4$ coating and ball milling was used for the coating process. The precursor was crystallized to high temperature form of $LiCoO_2$ at $800^{\circ}C$ and the grain growth was inhibited by the $K_2SO_4$ coating effect. The $K_2SO_4$ coating was not decomposed at $800^{\circ}C$ and prevented the contact in the Li-Co precursor particles. The nano-sized $LiCoO_2$ powder had tetragonal phase and it affected the Li diffusion through the surface of particles. It means that the anode materials for hight performance battery should be satisfied not only small particle size but phase contol on the surface of particles. In this study, the powder characteristics and rate capabilities were compared with a commercial powder and the nano-sized $LiCoO_2$ powder fabricated by the mechanochemical method. And the crucial factor which affects on battery performance was also examined.

  • The calcination and hydrogen-reduction behavior of Fe- and Ni-nitrate have been investigated. $Fe_2O_3$/NiO composite powders were prepared by chemical solution mixing of Fe- and Ni-nitrate and calcination at $350^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The calcined powders were hydrogen-reduced at $350^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. The calcination and hydrogen-reduction behavior of Fe- and Ni-nitrate were analyzed by TG in air and hydrogen atmosphere, respectively. TG and XRD analysis for hydrogen-reduced powders revealed that the $Fe_2O_3$/NiO phase transformed to $FeNi_3$ phase at the temperature of $350^{\circ}$. The activation energy for the hydrogen reduction, evaluated by Kissinger method, was measured as 83.0 kJ/mol.

  • Processing and properties of high power piezoelectric transformer (PT) fabricated by PIM with nano-sized piezoelectric powders are demonstrated. The high power characteristics of a PMed dome-shaped PT were examined by the lighting test for a 55watt PL lamp. The 55watt PL lamp was successfully driven by the PIMed PT with sustaining efficiency higher than 98%. The transformer with ring/dot area ratio of 2.1 exhibited the maximum properties in terms of output power, efficiency and temperature stability.

  • Nano-sized WC particles in WC/Co composite powders were synthesized by mechanochemical method. The raw powders$(WO_3,\;Co_3O_4,\;VC,\;Cr_3C_2$ and graphite) were mixed by planetary milling for 30 hours. The compositions were WC-10 and -20 wt% Co added VC and $Cr_3C_2$. The direct reduction and carburization of the mixed powders were carried at $900\;^{\circ}C$ for 1 to 3 hours under flowing Ar gas. The mean size of WC particles in WC/Co composite powders was about 16 nm. The resultant powders were compacted and sintered at $1300{\sim}1360\;^{\circ}C$ for 0.5 hour. After sintering the mean size of WC particles was about 50 nm.

  • To synthesize $Gd_{2}O_{3}:Eu$ phosphor powder of nano size and high luminescence efficiency under UV (ultraviolet) and VUV (vacuum ultraviolet) light, organic additives such as citric acid and ethylene glycol and $Na_{2}CO_{3}$ flux were introduced in large-scale spray pyrolysis and critical conditions for forming nano-sized particles were investigated. The $Gd_{2}O_{3}:Eu$ phosphor particles prepared from solutions with organic additives such as citric acid and ethylene glycol had micron size and spherical shape. However, the particles prepared from polymeric precursor solution with $Na_{2}CO_{3}$ flux had nano size and non-aggregation characteristics. The as-prepared spherical particles with micron size turned into nano-sized particles during post-treatment by recrystallization process. The nano-sized $Gd_{2}O_{3}:Eu$ phosphor particles showed higher brightness than the commercial $Y_2O_3:Eu$ phosphor product under both UV light of 254nm and VUV light of 147 nm.
