  • Organolead halide perovskite have attracted much attention over the past three years as the third generation photovoltaic due to simple fabrication process via solution process and their great photovoltaic properties. Many structures such as mesoporous scaffold, planar heterojunction or 1-D TiO2 or ZnO nanorod array structures have been studied to enhance performances. And the photovoltaic performances and carrier transport properties were studied depending on the cell structures and shape of perovskite film. For example, the perovskite cell based on TiO2/ZnO nanorod electron transport materials showed higher electron mobility than the mesoporous structured semiconductor layer due to 1-D direct pathway for electron transport. However, the reason for enhanced performance was not fully understood whether either the shape of perovskite or the structure of TiO2/ZnO nanorod scaffold play a dominant role. In this regard, for a clear understanding of the shape/structure of perovskite layer, we applied anodized aluminum oxide material which is good candidate as the inactive scaffold that does not influence the charge transport. We fabricated vertical one dimensional (1-D) nanostructured methylammonium lead mixed halide perovskite (CH3NH3PbI3-xClx) solar cell by infiltrating perovskite in the pore of anodized aluminum oxide (AAO). AAO template, one of the common nanostructured materials with one dimensional pore and controllable pore diameters, was successfully fabricated by anodizing and widening of the thermally evaporated Al film on the compact TiO2 layer. Using AAO as a scaffold for perovskite, we obtained 1-D shaped perovskite absorber, and over 15% photo conversion efficiency was obtained. I-V measurement, photoluminescence, impedance, and time-limited current collection were performed to determine vertically arrayed 1-D perovskite solar cells shaped in comparison with planar heterojunction and mesoporous alumina structured solar cells. Our findings lead to reveal the influence of the shape of perovskite layer on photoelectrical properties.

  • A novel strontium titanate/binary metal sulfide ($SrTiO_3/SnCoS_4$) heterostructure was synthesized by a simple two-step hydrothermal method. The visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance of $SrTiO_3/SnCoS_4$ composites was evaluated in the degradation of methyl orange (MO) under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic performance of $SrTiO_3/SnCoS_4-5%$ is much higher than that of pure $SrTiO_3$, $SnCoS_4$, $SrTiO_3/SnS_2$ and $SrTiO_3/CoS_2$. The $SrTiO_3/SnCoS_4$ composite material with 5 wt.% of $SnCoS_4$ showed the highest photocatalytic efficiency for MO degradation, and the degradation rate could reach 95% after 140 min irradiation time. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was ascribed to not only the improvement of visible light absorption efficiency, but also the construction of a heterostructure which make it possible to effectively separate photoexcited electrons and holes in the two-phase interface.

  • Core-shell structured $BaTiO_3$ powders were produced via nano-coating of $Cr_2O_3$ and $Mn_2O_3$ to barium titanate powder system for MLCCs. From preliminary experiments, the optimal solution reaction condition employing using $KMnO_4$, $K_2Cr_2O_4$ and sulfur was established. Not only powders of $Cr_2O_3$ and $Mn_2O_3$ were synthesized but also their coating on $BaTiO_3$ powders were peformed under the same reaction condition. The coating was carried out in two ways, one-step and two-step, and its results were characterized for comparison. Conclusively speaking, two oxide additives were coated onto the $BaTiO_3$ powder surface with high quality and excellent reaction yield even under mild condition, which indicates that the contents as well as the properties of additive shell layer can be precisely controlled with rather ease.

  • The properties of cement mortar mixed with manganese-doped titanium dioxide nanowires (TiO2(Mn)-NWs) were investigated in this study. The TiO2(Mn)-NWs were synthesized using solvo-thermal synthesis and electro-spinning techniques. The TiO2(Mn)-NWs at weights of 1%, 2%, and 3% of the cement were respectively mixed into the cement mortar. The results showed that as the amount of TiO2(Mn)-NWs increased, the flow value of the cement mortar was decreased and the setting time of cement mortar was accelerated. Moreover, as the amount of TiO2(Mn)-NWs increased, the compressive strength of cement mortar was increased and the efficiency of acetaldehyde removal was improved.

  • Efficient visible-light photocatalysis was realized by exploring self-induced defect states, including the abundant surface states of TiO2-δ nanobelts synthesized through metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). The TiO2-δ nanobelts exhibited two strong defect-induced absorption peaks at 2.91 and 1.92 eV, overlapping with the conduction band states so that photoexcited carriers can contribute effectively for the photocatalysis reaction. To further enhance visible-light photocatalytic activity, carbon atoms, the by-product of the MOCVD reaction, were self-doped at the judiciously determined growth conditions. The resulting visible-light photocatalysis suggests that the large surface area and consequent high concentration of the surface states of the TiO2-δ nanobelts can be effectively utilized in a wide range of photocatalysis applications.

  • Dispersion stability of nano-sized rutile TiO$_2$powder with acicular typed primary particle produced by homogeneous precipitation process at low temperatures was studied in aqueous and non-aqueous media in the presence of various electrolytes. The zeta potential measurements have shown that the addition of electrolytes to aqueous and non-aqueous dispersion media leads to charge reversal on TiO$_2$particle surface. The electrostatic repulsive forces acting on between TiO$_2$particles dispersed in non-aqueous media were found to be significantly greater than that in aqueous media, which relate closely to the physical properties of the organic solvents, such as viscosities and dielectric constants. The pH values, the concentration of electrolytes and the valence of the ions have changed greatly the surface potential of TiO$_2$ particles and have governed the dispersion behavior of TiO$_2$particles virtually.

  • We prepared blocking layers by adding 0.0 ~ 0.6 wt% nano diamond blends (DBs) to $TiO_2$ blocking layers to improve the energy conversion efficiencies (ECEs) of dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). TEM and micro-Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize the microstructure and phases of DBs, respectively. Optical microscopy and FE-SEM were used to analyze the microstructure of the $TiO_2$ blocking layer with DBs. UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy was used to determine the absorbance of the working electrodes. A solar simulator and a potentiostat were used to determine the photovoltaic properties and the impedance of the DSSCs with DBs. From the results of the DBs analysis, we determined a 6.97 nm combination of nano diamonds and graphite. We confirmed that ECE increased from 5.64 to 6.48 % when the added DBs increased from 0.0 to 0.2 wt%. This indicates that the effective surface area and electron mobility increased when DBs were added to the $TiO_2$ blocking layer. Our results indicate that the ECE of DSSCs can be enhanced by adding an appropriate amount of DBs to the $TiO_2$ blocking layers.

  • In the present paper, the thermal deactivation characteristics of plate-type commercial $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ SCR catalyst were investigated. For this purpose, the plate-type catalyst was calcined at different temperatures ranging from $500^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. Structural and morphological changes were characterized byXRD, specific surface area, porosity, SEM-EDS and also NOx conversion with ammonia according to the calcine temperature. The NOx conversion decreased with increasing calcine temperature, especially when the catalysts were calcined at temperatures above $700^{\circ}C$. This is because the crystal phase of $TiO_2$ changed from anatase to rutile, and the $TiO_2$ grain growth and $CaWO_4$ crystal phase were formed, which reduced the specific surface area and pore volume. In addition, $V_2O_5$, which is a catalytically active material, was sublimated or vaporized over $700^{\circ}C$, and a metal mesh used as a support of the catalyst occurred intergranular corrosion and oxidation due to the formation of Cr carbide.

  • Transition metal ions($Ni^{2+}$, $Cr^{3+}$ and $V^{5+}$) doped $TiO_2$ nanostructured powders were synthesized by mechanical alloying(MA) to shift the adsorption threshold into the visible light region. The synthesized powders were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and BET for structural analysis, UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectrum for the optical study. Also, photocatalytic abilities were evaluated by decomposition of 4-chlorophenol(4CP) under ultraviolet and visible light irradiations. Optical studies showed that the absorption wavelength of transition metal ions doped $TiO_2$ powders moved to visible light range, which was believed to be induced by the energy level change due to the doping. Among the prepared $TiO_2$ powders, $NiO^{2+}$ doped $TiO_2$ powders, showed excellent photooxidative ability in 4CP decomposition.
