  • We studied the polarization state in an apertureless scanning near-field microscopy (a-SNOM) operating in reflection mode by using three-dimensional Finite-difference Time-domain (FDTD) method. As a result, the electric field around tip apex in the near-field region enhanced four times stronger than the incident light for ppolarization when the tip-sample separation was 10 nm. We find that the p- and s-polarization state is maintained for the scattered light when the probe is perpendicular to the sample. When the probe is not perpendicular to the sample, the polarization state of scattered light will rotate an angle that equals to the inclination angle of probe with p-polarization illumination. On the other hand, the polarization state will not rotate with s-polarization illumination.

  • The public services closely related to the daily lives of the Japanese people, such as firefighting, police or primary school education, are largely financed by the local governments. As the population as a whole in Japan declines, the population in local regions are forecasted to experience particularly rapid decline in the future, and it is inevitable to reduce the cost of public services provided by the local governments to keep their financial basis sustainable. In order to provide public services to the people properly and fairly, the local governments own and utilize their public facilities, such as fire stations, police stations or primary schools. On the other hand, we have to secure the accessibility, which is the condition of accessing a facility easily in a whole local city including the high population density area and low population density area. In this paper, we propose a method of determining the number of future facilities and its facility locations in which we maintain the present accessibility. In our proposed method, we determine them comparing the accessibility measurement calculated by facility location model using the present and future population. We adopted k-centdian model as the facility location model, which can secure the accessibility in a whole local city determining the weights of both areas. We applied our proposed method to fire station in Iwaki city, Japan. The results suggested that 7 facilities would be reduced in 2064, after 50 years from 2014. Additionally, we confirmed that the future facility location had secured accessibility in both high and low population density area.

  • Alignment failure sometimes occurs during the rubbing process because the rubbing cloth comes in direct contacts with the surface of the alignment film. A number of researches observed and evaluated the surface of the alignment film after the rubbing process had been reported. The real-time rubbing process has not been observed directly yet, though. In this study, the movement of the piles of the rubbing cloth during the rubbing process was observed with a high-speed camera. Furthermore, the relationship between the rubbing scratch on the alignment films and the movement of the pile was investigated. It was found that the movement of the pile affected the rubbing scratches.

  • We focus on discrete event systems with a structure of parallel processing, synchronization, and no-concurrency. We use max-plus algebra, which is an effective approach for controller design for this type of system, for modeling and formulation. Since a typical feature of this type of system is that the initial schedule is frequently changed due to unpredictable disturbances, we use a simple model and numerical examples to examine the possibility of applying the concepts of the feeding buffer and the project buffer of critical chain project management (CCPM) on max-plus linear discrete event systems in order to control the occurrence of an undesirable state change. The application of a CCPM-based framework on a max-plus linear discrete event system was proven to be effective.

  • We propose a novel technique for evaluating the azimuthal anchoring strength of the alignment film on the nematic liquid crystal (LC). In our evaluation, a unique cell, which has two domain in one cell, was used; one is hybrid aligned nematic (HAN) region, the other is twsited nematic (TN) region (viz. HAN/TN two domain cell). From the comparison of director angles on the front substrate with each region, we are able to determine the angle between easy axis and real director axis on the front substrate. From this evaluation, the azimuthal anchoring strength was obtained accurately.

  • Final year students are normally encountering high pressing in their study. In view of this fact, this research focuses on determining mental states condition of college student in final year based on the psycho-physiological information. The experiments were conducted in two times, i.e., prior- and post- graduation seminar examination. The early results indicated that the student profile of mood states (POMS) in prior final graduation seminar showed higher scores than students in post final graduation seminar. Thus, in this research, relation between biosignal representing by heart rate variability (HRV) and questionnaire responses were evaluated by hidden Markov model (HMM) and neural networks (NN).

  • In the rice planted acreage estimation, high precise measurement and laborsaving are required by using satellite data. A method referring accurate agricultural plot vector data was used in this paper which improves the estimation accuracy of rice planted acreage compared with conventional methods. In this method, satellite data are not used for totalization, although they are used to discriminate whether the fields are rice planted or not. This paper described the result of the above method using to ASTER-VNIR data.

  • The rocket technology has the best reliability and the high acceleration performance currently. In addition, next generation propulsion system is acquired to low cost and high payload percentage at that same time. This work is to improve the performance of Diskshaped MHD accelerator which is expected as the one of the solution. In this study we have been focusing on the swirl vane. It is so important to know that how the swirl vane contribute the plasma and its performance. As results, the gas velocities of r-component with inlet swirl were increased about over 3000m/s at the channel exit. And then static gas pressure were also reduced, we found that the case with inlet swirl gives the good influence to the acceleration performance. And the difference of the acceleration by positive and negative inlet swirl is that gas velocity of $\theta$-component may operate to the electric field.

  • Novel surface profiler system for inspection of the display components is demonstrated In the case of the liquid crystal display, for example, not only the flatness of the alignment film but also the quality of rubbing can be inspected. Furthermore, the shape of the component such as the color filter, electrode and mirror can be inspected without removing each component.

  • This paper addresses a task of opinion extraction from given documents and its positive/negative classification. We propose a sentence classification method using a notion of syntactic piece. Syntactic piece is a minimum unit of structure, and is used as an alternative processing unit of n-gram and whole tree structure. We compute its semantic orientation, and classify opinion sentences into positive or negative. We have conducted an experiment on more than 5000 opinion sentences of multiple domains, and have proven that our approach attains high performance at 91% precision.
